Hi my name is grace mcilroy. My dads family is irish but im not sure when they came to new zealand either late 1800's or early 1900's. My grandads name is ivan mcilroy and my nana who was irish too was a mooney. I think my great granddad who came to new zealand's name was john or david mcilroy. I would love to find my extended relatives and/or just find out more. My nana was born and raised in ireland though i'm not sure where.

Although it's been a few years since you last posted, I thought Id give this a whirl!!

Anyhow, I have a suspicion that we are connected via your great grandfather. I have always been aware of my family's connection to the McIlroys in Caddy, Randalstown.

My maternal grandmother was Elizabeth McIlroy (born in Belfast 1926), her father was Hugh McIlroy (born Caddy c.1886). His father was Alexander McIlroy who was born in Caddy c.1853. In 1877 Alexander had married a Mary Bell in Randalstown.

Alexander had several children including another Alexander (born c.1897). I just wonder if this could be your grandfather. If this is the case, your father and my grandmother would be cousins.

Its worth a shot!!

Caddy isnt such a large place after all!!

My grandfather was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1899 and was named Daniel Robert McIlroy. I believe his family emmigrated to Scotland from Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

He himself emmigrated to Toronto (via Winnipeg) in the 1920s. He married Margaret Gray (also born in Falkirk).

He was from a large family (10 brothers and sisters) and I would like to connect with some of them. I think some of his family emmigrated to Rochester, New York and others to Toronto.

Does anyone have information on this family?

Looking for information on David McIlroy (b: abt 1810, Belfast, Ireland; d:13-Feb-1870 in Neilston, Renfrewshire). Migrated to Renfrewshire, Scotland after 1833. Married Jane Queen (Quin/Quein b: abt 1818 in Belfast, Ireland d:12-Dec-1878 in Neilston, Renfrewshire, Scotland) in Belfast in 1833.

9 kids:- Elizabeth, Margaret, Janet, William, Jane, Ann, Robert, John & Helen I am descendant of Elizabeth, but would like any information of other descendants.

David’s father was John McIlroy and mother was Ann Davidson, who I assume were born (mid 1700s?), married and died in Ireland, possible co Antrim, but I have no firm information.

you know what is weird is that my great aunt is maxine marie McIlroy Burrow. and she is still alive but not always well. I live in Randolph county and have gotten a little farther over the years in my search of the McIlroy family. It is very large and many names are used repeatedly in the same generations. Just getting my grandfathers line straightened out is hard

I am just starting to look for McIlroy in my research. The name keeps crossing with the surname SPROULE. I have a Prudence McIlroy who married a Sproule and lived in Manitoulin Island in the late 1800's. They had a boy age 9 living with them in 1881 by the name of Robert Mclennan. This may not be a coincidence. I do not know how he could be connected with the family? Do you have any info that might help here? I also have a Joseph McIlroy who was born in 1782 in Antrim who IS connected to my Sproule line. There are a few other McIlroys who have surfaced in this family. Contact me if this sounds familiar. Collette, WOW!!! After all this time, I am so glad to hear from you. The only thing I have been able to get so far is that my father, James McIlroy came to this country in 1924. His only relative that I was ever aware of was a sister Annie. The info you have given will open another door. Are you related to the McIlroys?

Hi, just stumbled across your message Re: William McIlroy and the Royal Artillery. I am descended from the Blacks, originally of Scotland, who also served for many generations in the royal artillery.

I think there is a good chance that the William McIlroy you speak of is one I have come across in completin my family tree - born in 1831 (Ireland) he married a Catherine/Kate Black in June 1861. They had several children -
Kate, born in Corfu 1862
John Black McIlroy - born Malta 1864
Margaret - born Brixton Surrey 1867
Annie - 1869 - Plumstead Kent
Minnie - 1871 Plumstead Kent
William - 1876 - Plumstead Kent
Elizabeth - 1879 - Plumstead Kent

William McIlroy eventually ended up a Captain Army Adjutant Vol. (according to my research)

I would be very keen to hear if you knew of any details regarding his siblings and parents.

Catherine Black's parents were James Black (born 1803 Scotland) and Catherine Webster Talyor (also b Scotland). James Black was also a captain in the Royal Artillery at retirement.

Seeking information on several McIlroys from Ireland who served in British Army (Royal Artillery) in 1800s- William, James, Thomas, Henry, Matthew & others.
William (d.1901) lived in later years at Plumstead in Kent. James went to Canada in 1880s. His son Francis C.D. McIlroy probably lived Liverpool area & d.1942.
Would like to find descendants of any of these McIlroys to exchange family details.

Is anyone out there researching the Mcilroys in Buchanan Parish, Stirling, Scotland?

I have found that my George McKimmie married a Jean Mcilroy there in 1720 and had two children: Margaret McKimmie, b. 1721; and Thomas McKimmie, b. 1723. Margaret then married a William Campbell there in 1744.

Would enjoy hearing from anyone else researching these folk!

I think it's pathetic you feel your opinions are important enough to express to a complete stranger. You do not know this person and how she is handling the "situation". I am not sure if this is the same John McIlroy that I am related to . My 3rd Great Grandfather was John McIlroy. He was born in Aughrina County, Derry, Irealnd in 1834. He Married a Woman By the Name of Margaret Anderson.. Their Daughter's Name is Mary McIlroy. We are not sure if Mary had any Siblings . John McIlroy Died in Ireland in 1906. John's Father and Mother's names were William McIlroy and Mary Simax. Do any of these names Correspond with your research?

Does anyone have any information on the ancestors, or even just the parents of this woman? Here is all I have on her:

Margaret McIlroy (Irish) married Thomas Huston Adair (born around 1840 in Co. Antrim Ireland to Scottish parents), her possible siblings are Elizabeth, Mary, George, Jean. Moved to Canada- then to Ohio at some point. Margaret and Thomas had children William, Isabel, John, Thomas, George and James (some of these settled in Jackson, MI).

My wife's great grandmother was Jane McIlroy, b. 9 July 1848 in Kilsyth, married to Robert Young, 1 Dec. 1872. Jane's parents were James McIlroy and Ann Anderson. Would appreciate any futher info on any of them.

John McIlroy b.1725/Scotland d.1787/Franklin County, PA

Am looking for more information on the above, married in Franklin County 1751 & names of sons are Samuel (1760), James, Hugh & George (1762). Names of daughters are not known.

I have family history that is sketchy about this first generation in America with far more details later when one of the branches changed their name to McElroy. I am starting to transcribe it from typed & handwritten notes and would love to share it with anyone interested.

Hello there Michelle, my name is Billy Fleming I am tracing my mums side of her family and she is called Elizabeth McIlroy Bennett, her granny was called Elizabeth McIlroy(1895) and she married Henry Bennett, her dad was Isaac McIlroy(1858) and her mum Mary Moore Thomson she had brothers Isaac and John and sisters Mary and Ann , they all came from Grace Street in Anderston where my mum was born , they had come from Ireland where Isaac(1858) was born to another Isaac and Elizabeth Kennedy, he died and she remarried a guy called Bernard Ferns, and had 8 other kids, I have some other McIlroys not yet related and if I can help just ask.

Denis McIlroy & Ann Elizabeth Adams

Looking for information on my 2GGF Denis McIlroy and his wife Ann Elizabeth Adams, most likely from Leitrim, Ireland. Only known child is Ann McIlroy who married Michael Casey in Edinburgh on the 28th May 1869. Both Denis McIlroy/Ann Elizabeth Adams stated as deceased on the marriage certificate. Not known if they came to Scotland or not. So far, I can find no further records of them.

Michael Casey/Ann McIlroy had 6 children, Patrick (1870), Catherine (1872), John (1874), Francis, (1877), Ann (1880) and William (my GF 1891). The 1881 Scottish Census has Michael and Ann as born in “Leithrin”. I can find no such place, hence my assumption of Leitrim. This 1881 census lists all children as being born in Inveresk, Edinburgh, Scotland. However, the IGI lists Catherine and John as being born in New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland, and Catherine’s birth certificate states she was born at 101 High Street, Airdrie.

The IGI also shows numerous McIlroys and Caseys in the New Monkland area at this time. Any information appreciated.

I am also researching John McIlroy, Hugh the eldest son was my grandfather, he married Rachel Ewart 1904 and had 4 children, Evelyn, Elsie & Walter (twins) and my Mother Eileen.
John and Annies children were in 1901 Hugh 21, Joseph 20, Francis 15, Annie 13, James 9, Robert 7. I would appreciate
any more information anyone may have.
