REF.:BARBARA McILWRAITH AND JOHN GALLOWAY
To explain my interest in the above I need to explain the family history background which is a bit complicated.:-
I am slightly stuck with my Galloway family history as follows:
James Galloway b. Nov 1st 1796 died on Jan 23rd 1871 in Dumfries. On his death certificate his parents are shown as Alexander Galloway and Jane Richardson (married 1793 in Lochmaben, Dumfries deceased).
A search has only thrown up two Alexander Galloways for the period :-
1.Alexander Galloway baptised on July 8th 1772 in Auchenhaay,Borgue,Kircudbrightshire to parents George Galloway and Elizabeth Milwrath.
2.Alexander Galloway baptised on July 20th 1774 in Barhallan,Ballantrae,Ayrshire to parents John Galloway and Barbara Mcilwrath.
I have both birth/baptism OPR’s.
Borgue is approximately 40 miles from Locmaben; Ballantrae is approximately 80 miles from Lochmaben. Journeys of these lengths would not have been uncommon in the late 18th century but one would wonder why a person would travel such a distance especially the 80 miles from Ballantrae.
The first Alexander would have been 21years old at his marriage date to Jane Richardson in 1793.The second Alexander would have only been 19 years old.The first Alexander' 2nd(James)and 3rd child(Betty) were born in New Abbey, Kikcudbrightshire which is about 25 miles from Borgue. Because of the above, I have selected the first Alexander but I am not happy about this.
The second Alexander’s first son was named John. (fits naming pattern)
So far I have been unable to find a record of either Alexander's demise in the Old Parish registers or in Monument Inscriptions in the area. The relevant old parish records may have been lost. My next move was to try to find additional info on the second Alexander Galloway and Barbara McIlwraith.
Any help would be appreciated.
