Does anybody have a John McIntosh who was a sawyer or possibly a forester in their tree ? All I know is that he was in the Corriebeg / Fortwilliam / Kilmallie area circa 1869. He was the father of Duncan McIntosh (1869-1948) Although he never married Flora McDonald the mother, he did sign the birth certificate. His occupation is the only clue I have , so If anyone can help i'll be very grateful

Tressie (Hildebrand) McIntosh
A woman of extraordinary achievement, energy and character has passed on and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, fans and feline.

Tressie Sarah McIntosh of Clinton, Ohio the oldest person ever to graduate from the University of Akron, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at the age of 91 after a lengthy illness.

Born January 18, 1917 in Smith Mills, Pennsylvania, the former Tressie Hildebrand embraced life in a way that inspired all who knew her. A source of pride for 55 years her Summit County landmark home in Clinton was where she also happily engaged in the roles of wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and matriarch. Tressie's ever-growing circle of family and friends cherished her friendship, vitality and joke-telling, continually being charmed by the eternal Delta Gamma girl who seemed to reside within.

Preceded in death by her husband, William J. McIntosh; and parents, Howard J. Hildebrand and Teresa Ann Peterson; siblings, Esther Sarb, Bette Ferguson and Howard P. Hildebrand, she is survived by sons, Ladd (Esther) McIntosh, Lachlan (Jennifer) McIntosh; brother-in-law, Phil Ferguson, Jr.; sister-in-law, Paula Hildebrand, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service SATURDAY 2 p.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 East Cherry St. (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) with Gary Robinson officiating and where friends may call FRIDAY 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial Clinton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to The University of Akron Foundation, Akron, OH 44325-2603
for the Tressie Sarah McIntosh Memorial Scholarship.

Maurice McIntosh - Message directed to MarkM1035

You have posted a public family tree that has a branch of my family tree on it. But, the information you have is incorrect and does NOT tie to you my tree. You show my granduncle John F. Conway (b. 1867 / d. 1888) as being married to a woman named Catherine Fitzgerald (b. 1815 / d. 1882). No, my granduncle didn't marry anyone who was already 52 years old when he was born.

Further, you show a Maurice Conway as their son (and your great-grandfather). You show his birth year as 1840. Unless my calculations are WAY off, my granduncle, born in 1867, could not have fathered a child born in 1840.

James McIntosh, Aberdeen, Scotland

I came across the following article in an edition of The Aberdeen Journal, dated Monday, September 23, 1912, and have posted it in case it is of interest to anyone. Although there are McIntosh's (Parish of King Edward, Aberdeenshire) on the family tree I am not aware of a connection with the one detailed below (unless anyone else can tell me otherwise!).

ABERDEEN MAN MAULED BY A BEAR

STRUGGLE IN STABLE YARD

VICTIM’S DANGEROUS CONDITION

A sensation was created in the east end of Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon, when it became known that a bear had savagely attacked a man, and so severely injured him that he had to be conveyed to the Royal Infirmary , where his condition is regarded as dangerous. So badly hurt was the man that he underwent an operation yesterday.

The scene of the extraordinary incident was in a stable yard in Lemon Place, occupied by Mr Alexander Stephen, live stock salesman, who owns the bear. The animal is kept in the yard, and during the day it is allowed to walk about the enclosure attached to a chain fixed to a post. At night it is put into a cage situated in a corner of the yard.

The injured man is James McIntosh, a borer, of 43 years of age, residing in Duff Street, which adjoins the stable yard. McIntosh is well acquainted with the bear, which is of a savage nature, having, it is said, attacked a man about two years ago and so severely injured him that he succumbed. Only as recently as a few weeks ago the animal attacked a lad, who fortunately escaped without injury, although his clothes were torn. The bear some years ago was on exhibition at the Beach Zoo, and came into Mr Stephen’s possession when the collection of animals at the zoo was broken up.

A DESPERATE STRUGGLE

About 5.30 on Saturday afternoon an attendant fed the animal. The gate of the enclosure had been left open, and the attendant requested McIntosh, who happened to be about to close it. In order to carry this out, McIntosh stepped into the yard. No sooner had he done this than the animal sprang on him from behind and bore him to the ground. The bear savagely attacked McIntosh as he lay on the ground. In a most ferocious manner it used its powerful claws on his head and body, at the same time endeavouring to fix him by the throat with its teeth. In order to prevent the savage brute from getting at his throat, McIntosh held up his right arm. The bear, now thoroughly roused, seized the arm with its teeth. So severe was the unequal struggle that the arm was broken and the flesh much torn.

The cries of the unfortunate man and the savage growls of the infuriated brute attracted the attendant’s attention and he at once rushed for the chain to which the bear was attached, and succeeded in pulling the animal off. McIntosh managed to crawl out of the yard, and was taken home with all speed. A doctor was summoned, and found him suffering from a fractured arm and severe lacerations on the face and body. McIntosh was also suffering much from shock, and the doctor ordered his removal to the Royal Infirmary, to which he was conveyed in a cab. It is thought that blood poisoning may set in.

As already stated, McIntosh underwent an operation yesterday, when the wounds were stitched. The extraordinary affair created great excitement, and was the sole topic of conversation in the locality during the evening.

1934 Deaths in the Northern District of Aberdeen in the County of Aberdeen

No. 885; James McIntosh, Iron Driller (widower of Jessie Anderson), died 1934, October Seventh at 2h 15m am in Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen (us. res. 11 Duff Street, Aberdeen), male, age 66 years.
George T. McIntosh/Martha Boren of Todd Co., Kentucky

I am trying to verify the children of George T. McIntosh and Martha Boren, m. Todd Co., KY, 1845. George served in the Civil War on the Union side and was killed in the battle of Shiloh. There is a Martha McIntosh (maiden name Boren?) living in Todd County, Kentucky in 1870. This Martha was born 1825 and had the following children living with her:
James b. 1850
Joseph b. 1854
Victoria b. 1858
Charity b. 1851

I believe this Joseph (b. 1854 is my GG grandfather). He was reportedly a deputy marshal and married a Cherokee Indian (Lydia Lou Scott). I believe Joseph later lived in Arkansas and Missouri. I am trying to verify that he is the son of George and Martha and find out how George is connected to the other McIntosh families in Tennessee and Kentucky. For some reason, I can't find this family in the 1850 or 1860 census. Also, I wonder why there were so many Boren/McIntosh marriages?

Charles McIntosh - Petty 1746 - Pictou Nova Scotia

McIntoshes of Petty

From "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation" , Donald Whyte, 1986 Vol 1
entry 6754. McIntosh, Charles.
From Petty, Inv. to Cornwallis N.S. 1785. Later settled East Branch East River , Pictou Co. Farner and landowner .
m 2 June 1775, Isabell Ross, qv.
ch: Donald, Hugh, Duncan, Isabell, David, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sally.

In the same source Isabell Ross is identified as from Flemington, nr. Ft George, Inverness. , d/o John R. Wife of Charles McIntosh.

A seperate line entry (on the same page) is added for Donald as "s/o Charles McIntosh and Isabell Ross. It reads: b. ca. 1776. from Petty, INV s/o Charles M. qv, and isabell Ross, qv to Cornwallis NS 1785. setld East Branch East River. Farmer m. Ann, dau of Alexander Falconer, "(listing 10 children, etc).

Another reference I found says both Donald and his brother David were born in Inverness-shire (Petty).

http://www.rootsweb.com/~nspictou/elect_text/Pictonians_ch_1...

"David McIntosh, son of Charles McIntosh, settled a short distance above his brother, Donald McIntosh. David was born in Inverness, Scotland, and married Christie Chisholm. James McIntosh, his son, Island, East River, married Catherine Grant. Two of their sons David C. and Finlay G., entered the ministry. Hugh, another son of David McIntosh, married Isabel Polson and gave that man of weight and wisdom, Rev. Charles D. McIntosh to the ministry. Two other sons entered the medical profession. "

I was wondering if anyone might have any further information on son, Duncan.

Duncan McIntosh is believed to have married Mary Chisholm in Pictou County Nova Scotia.

Mary Chisholm was 12 when she came to Pictou from Glenurquhart Inverness-shire in 1802 with her parents James chisholm and Martha Marjory. She was reported to have married at a very young age (possibly 14)

I am primarily interested in knowing if Duncan and Mary had a daughter called Ann/Anne/Annie/Nancy

A 1920 news article in Nova Scotia erroneously identified Ann McIntosh as a daughter of Duncan's brother David and his wife Christy/Christie Chisholm (a younger sister of Mary)

Annie McIntosh married John 'Mor' McDonald. They had a daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) who married a Donald Chisholm. The same news article identified Elizabeth as an Aunt by marrige to the Hon Duncan Cameron (DC) Fraser (Lt Gov of NS)

Regards,
Ben MacDonald
Sun City AZ

James & Susan McIntosh Warren Co, PA 1850

Looking for more info on James McIntosh b abt 1812 in NY, wife Susan b abt 1813 also in NY. ON 1850 Warren Co PA census they had the following children: Elizabeth b abt 1836 in NY; Imogene b abt 1839 in PA; Harriet A. b abt 1842 in PA; Franklin b abt 1846 in NY. James's occupation listed as blacksmith. The daughter Imogene later married Robert Grenny and they lived in St Clair, Michigan, found there on 1880 census. The father James was living with them at that time, wife Susan not in the household, possibly had died by then. Looking for anyone who has researched this family and who has info on who the other children married and further info on the parents James and Susan. The son, Franklin might possibly be our ancestor. I am desperately trying to find more information on this family. I think by 1860 they had moved to Mina, Chautauqua Co New York. The son Franklin is then 14 yrs old and there are 2 younger children added to the family, 2 sons named Fayette b abt 1852 and Marenus b abt 1858. Not sure if this is the same family just a hunch. Anyone with further information or who can help please let me know. Thanks!

Death of Patsy McIntosh

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 22 August 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

ODD CLAUSES IN WILL

Patsy McIntosh, Wealthiest Negro Woman in Oklahoma, is Dead

Muskogee, Oklahoma, August 24

The filing of the will of the late Patsy McIntosh, the wealthiest negro woman of the State, has developed some very interesting conditions that she imposed concerning her estate and the manner of her burial. Also a feature of the treaty between the Creek Indians and the United States government made in 1866, that very few people know about.

Whem Patsy died she left written instructions as to her burial. She instructed her executor, Thomas . Owen, to see to it that all of her friends and relatives were invited to her funeral. She was not to be buried for four days after her death. In the meantime meals were to be provided for all her relatives and friends at her house, those who came from the country were to have their teams fed, and none of them was to have one item of expense while they were there. She instructed the undertaker that when she was taken to the grave that the funeral procession should return to the city from the cemetery in the same order that it had gone out. It was expressly forbidden that the hearse leave the grave until the services were over, and when it did so it was to heard the procession homeward, all the carriages were to follow in line and the horses were not to be driven out of a walk.

Shen she died a chamois skin bag was found buckled on the calf of her leg, and in this bag there were $750. She always carried a large amount of cash about with her, and yet her executor found that she at many times carried the largest time deposit of any customer the bank had. He further found when he took an inventory of the estate, that while she was worth $75,000 and had much valuable city property and land, she did not owe a cent to anyone. She left all of her property to two daughters, both of them married. She had $12,000 in cash on deposit at her bank when she died.

This property grew out of a right she acquired in the Creek Nation under the treaty of 1886 which provided that all slaves of Indians who had been set free by Lincoln's proclamation should share in the land the same as an Indian, and that all other negroes who should come to Indian Territory within six months thereafter should also acquire such rights. She came in under this clause. She acquired a large tract of land on which a part of Muskogee later builded. She held some of this property and improved it. The rest she held until it became very valuable and sold. The Creeks to this day bitterly resent the clause in the treaty, forced on them by the government, which permitted negroes to share their land.
Recently found a bit of an article from an unknown newspaper. It reads

"In Valdosta Ga., a family spokesman said Air Force Capt. Lyn Davis McIntosh, 33, who once taught school in his hometown, was doing the "kind of thing" that appealed to him when he was killed in the rescue attempt.
Herman Lyles said Mr. and Mrs. H.M. McIntosh had been in "shock" since learning Friday morning of their son's death. He said McIntosh, the father of three sons, "was a high achiver in every endeavor of life"

does anyone have any information on this, or perhaps seen an obituary which may direct me to more information? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

He in turn produced 7 sons, my grandfather being the 7th. I am trying to prove/disprove the 7th son of a 7th son story.

Robert had at least 2 siblings that I know of - Jane b 1880 and Isabella b 1873 - both have a similar statement regarding the father on their birth registrations.

Robert McIntosh born 1774 in Perthshire, Scotland

Looking for any info on Robert McIntosh born 1774 in Perthshire, Scotland. His father was a William McIntosh. Supposedly William was closely connected to one of the Clan Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh. Anne Barry, grand daughter of Robert's son William, thought that Robert's father William was the son of Robert Mackintosh and Anne MacQueen. Another relative thought that William was a grandson of Alexander Mackintosh (d. 1781 Newburgh, Fife)whose oldest son Aeneas later became Chief. Alexander's 2nd son, William was baptized 11 July 1756 in Newburgh, Fife. Obviously there have been some oral traditions that Robert had some family connection to the Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh, I'm looking for other relatives/descendants that would have additional information or records that can help clear this matter up.

I am especially looking for a family bible, either one that belonged to Robert and his wife Agness or their children.

I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a suitable baptism for Robert.nIn Ira Beattie's research he says that Robert was born 3 October 1774. Robert's tombstone in New Mills, Restigouche, New Brunswick says that Robert was a native of Logierait, Perthshire. Also his name is spelled M'Intosh.

If Robert had a close connection with the Chiefs it is possible that Robert was baptized as an Episcopalian because the Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh were Jacobite supporters and many of them were Episcopalian.

Robert married Agness Bartie in Errol, Perthshire on December 5, 1802.

Their children are as follows: William (1803 Errol), Robert (1805, Errol), Joseph (1808 Craiglochie), Hugh (1809), John (1810 Craiglochie), David (1812 Kilspindie), James (1814 Kilspindie), Alexander Saunders (Lochmill), Peter (1818 Lochmill), Agnes (1820 Lochmill), Euphemia (1823 Lochmill), George (1824 Lochmill), Thomas (1827 Lochmill).

Robert and Agnes emigrated to Restigouche county, New Brunswick in June of 1833, William and David emigrated in 1839, Alexander in May of 1833 and all of the other children, except not sure where Joseph and Hugh ended up.

Robert died Dec 12, 1846 and Agness died in 1863. They are buried in New Mills, Restigouche, New Brunswick.

Any help on Robert's parentage and lineage would be appreciated as well as any other info and family records.

I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a suitable baptism for Robert. In Ira Beattie's research he says that Robert was born 3 October 1774.
