Re: Elza McKay

Elza McKay's mother was Margaret A. Cox/McKay/Hart. Does anyone in your family know what her middle name was? Would anyone in your family know what happened to her 1st husband, Ralph McKay? Ralph McKay had a brother, William McKay, who was married to one of Margaret Cox's sisters, Rachel. William evidently died young also (between the 1880 census and somewhere in the 1890's). Does anyone in the family know what happened to William McKay? And when? Rachel and William had one son, Vint McKay. William's young widow, Rachel, remarried in the 1890's to Al Morin in Mercer Co., Mo. and remained there the rest of their lives.
Margaret A. Cox was the daughter of James F.(Franklin) Cox and Amanda Red (Goodin) Cox. James F. Cox was the son of Nathan Cox and Sarah "Sally" (Gatliff) Cox. Is there any family lore that would tell who Nathan's father was? I do know that James F. Cox was born in Knox Co., Ky. according to his obituary. The 1880 census records stated that Nathan Cox was born about 1816 in Kentucky also. The 1880 also states that Nathan's father and mother were both born in Kentucky.

WILLIAM J. McKAY of Miller County, Missouri d. 1858 Jim Henry

William J. McKay b. abt 1800 Kentucky, d. abt 1858 Jim Henry area, Miller County, Missouri.
Does anyone have information concerning his marriage or marriages (I believe there were two), his families, his
lineage?

I believe he may have been the second husband of my 2nd great grandmother, Lucinda Saulsberry Walden(Wallen) McKay who died near Wheatland, Hickory County, Missouri in 1861.
However, his probate records name another wife and children.
Lucinda was living in Cole County in 1830 Census, as well as Andrew Salisbury(her father?) and I believe with William J. McKay in the 1840 Miller Co Census, with whom the same Andrew Salisbury was then also living.

Lucinda's daughter, Susan, married Andrew Jackson McKay who possibly had brothers William(b.abt 1828 Tn/Ky, md. Rebecca Weaver 1848 Benton Co, Mo) and Marshall(b.abt 1830 Ky, md.Luvinia Vaughan 1857 Miller Co,Mo).

Lucinda had a child by William McKay, her 2nd husband, who was born sometime between 1840 and 1858 whose name was Maria J. McKay.

Lucinda's first husband was Michael Walden b.abt 1800 in North Carolina and died between 1835 and 1840 on the Gasconade River in Missouri. They had Susan 1824Tn,Elizabeth 1825Tn,James T. Walden/Wallen 1826Tn, Andrew J.1830, Daniel F.1832Mo and Spencer P.1834Mo.

I am interested in the Walden/Wallen family, too, but I would particularly like to know if William J. McKay of Jim Henry, Miller County, Missouri was the William McKay who was her second husband and what happened to him? Did he have a previous family? Where was he buried?

Would be happy to reimburse anyone with information concerning this mystery.
Thank you sincerely for your consideration of my problem.
Joanne Evans Hodges grandmah@bigskytel.com
josnnehodges76@gmail.com

Belfast,Ireland.

James and Margaret never had children but, were surrounded by children, nieces and nephews. Richard and Cassie BOAL, children of Richard and Annie HATTON BOAL were living with them in the 1911 Belfast census.

My grandmother said that when she was younger, the family went to Scotland to visit McKAY cousins and that one time they were at a scoccer game and this male cousin had his hands in his pants pockets and as he was coming down the stadium stairs, he feel and broke his neck and died. Does anyone have this accident in their McKAY family history?

How about any of the above names?

Sharon
sar5r@yahoo.com
or
trat29@yahoo.com

Victor McKay/MacKay - Adopted in T.O, ON Canada

I know this is a long shot but I am looking for my blood relatives on my fathers side who was adopted in Toronto when he was around 1-3 years old. His name at adoption was Victor McKay/MacKay and was the fourth or fifth child to the birth family. He was the youngest of two/three sisters and one brother. His name was changed to Andrew Gartshore and his date of birth was March 5, 1965. The birth family lived in Toronto, ON and then I believe moved somewhere like Newbrunswick and currently lives in a small fishing town. I believe the father has passed away but the mother is still alive, however, I don't know their names. I would really like to get in touch with this side of my family that I have never met and meet aunts, uncles and cousins that I don't know. Please help if you can.
Thank You in Advance
Hi. My research so far reveals that Alexander Stuart McKay is a son of Lachlan McKay and Elizabeth Calder. I do not have names of Alexander’s siblings.

Alexander was grandfather to my wife. He lived at Auburn and had a brother who lived next door but we don't know his name. Alexander had three children, Colin, Jack and Ernest.
Ron
Hello there,

I came across your Ancestry.com forum regarding the Mckays. I have bben doing research on them for the last three years and it a few road blocks.

I pretty solid on info up to Hugh Mckay married to Martha Mckee. Is Hugh's father William. I have him married to an Isabella. I don't have any of Hugh's siblings. I then have William's parents as Samuel and Martha Hamilton.

Also, Samual Martin Mckay was married to Emmalee Walden. I have all their childrens' info except their son Samuel Mcullough Mckay b 1861. I know he was married to Mary Haywood but thats alll I have. I came across an article talking about how the Mckays came to Clay ALA. It mentions Samuel fighting in the Civil War. Do you know what unit he served with?

By the way, my grandfather was Uriel Mckay

Mike
