have a James Mckean who married a Mary Hay in 1843, in Maybole Scotland. They had one child that we know of named William born in 1865 in Tarbolton SCOT. Asssuming that they had more as this is a 20 year difference! Last known residence was at a place called Spring Gardens, near Ayr. Apparantly James was a forrester and their son was a gameskeeper. William married Jessie Harvie(y) in 1890 in Ayr and had my grandfather in 1891 in Kirkoswald. know that jessie and William split up and then she married a man with the last name of day. Where did William go after that? Would like to know if he had other family as well and what happened to them

McKean Family - Ireland Canada

Hi

I have compiled a 200 year history of the McCain/McKane/McKean family from Donegal, Ireland. McKean is a variation of the original McCain name, and we have some McKean families included in the compilation, from this area. Different branches of the family for some reason changed the spelling to McKane (my Mo mother's name) or McKean or McKeane. Some of the original McCain family emigrated from Ireland to New Brunswick in the 1800's. If you are interested in finding out more about the Irish McCain/McKane/McKean connection, please drop me a line.

Ivan
Andrew McKean marriage 1851 Barony Glasgow

Hello.I am looking for info on the family of Andrew Mckean who married Catherine Donaldson on July 18 1851 in Barony Glasgow.
According to an LDS search I did they had a son named John McKean on June 11/1852 but I can not find him in Scotlands People. Furthermore I don't know what happened to them after the birth of their son, I just know that John McKean was later found living in the home of John Donaldson and Elizabeth (Laidlaw) according to the 1861 and 1871 census as a nephew in 61 and a grandson in 1871.

The Catherine I identified as the daughter of John Donaldson and Elizabeth Laidlaw, and a search on the LDS site found two possible parents for Andrew as,
1 - WILLIAM MACKEAN and JEAN NEIL,Dunbarton, Scotland.
2 - JOHN MCKEAN and ROZANNA MCCOLM, from wigtown,Scotland.

Any info on this family would be appreicated, thank you.

I have found him in the 1891 census as a 6 year old border in Chelsey, London. But I can't seem to find him on the 1901 census! I also knew he was in the navy. I know he moved to Flinshire where my grandmother was born and that he lived in Meirionethshire untill his death late at the end of the 40's beginning of 50's. But I am totaly confused why I can't find him on the 1901 census.
Any ideas?

His siblings were named George Valentine, Henry, Amelia, William & Oliver.
Herbert married Berta Fritz - 1908, and had Ruth, Oliver, Daisy, Irene & Gladys as offspring. Berta & Herbert parted ways in the 1920's and we have been unable to locate any record of him since. Numerous stories, but our last story was he left Ontario and went to live with one of his brothers in the States (perhaps New York).
Quick question -- my family has always
pronounced 'McKean' as if it were spelled
McCain, rather than with a long 'e' sound.
Are there other McKean's out there who
pronounce it that way, or do the rest of
you use the 'Mc-Keen' pronunciation?

I am looking for relatives of Joseph McKean (1897-1962). He had a son, Jack, married to Phyllis ??, and a daughter, Betty, married to John White. The last of this family that I saw was Jack; and, that was many years ago. I think that he passed away; but, I'm not positive. I am interested in connecting with any of Joseph's grandchildren. Joseph was my uncle. I am the daughter of his brother, Michael. I have, in the past year, gotten into genealogy research; and, I would like to add this family's information to my tree and share what I have with them.

CJ (McKean) Bellis

I am wondering if anyone with the surname McKean has members of their family who suffer from unusual growths on their face. I know this sounds odd, but there is a Dr. who is tracing the family bloodline that believes that the McKean family carries this disease as a family trait. If anyone would like more information, please feel free to email me. Thank you.

Charles McKean b. abt 1818 Md-resided in Ohio - Dry Goods Merchant

Charles was married twice, first wife unknown, he resided in Columbiana Co. Ohio in 1850, widow, with two sons born to his first marriage.

Charles McKean married second on 30 Nov 1852 in Carroll Co Ohio to Mrs Susannah Burrier (maiden Boop).

Charles and Susan moved to Monroe Twp Harrison Co Ohio Children born to Charles & Susannah Mckean were Sarah b. abt 1860, William b. abt 1862 and Amelia b. abt 1864. Probably all 3 born in Harrison Co. Ohio.

Susannah was my 3rd great grandmother thru her first marriage. She left her daughter to be raised by her brothers when she married Charles McKean. I am seeking her date of death, burial place and info on her children with McKean.

Charles McKean's sons born to his first marriage were George who was 23 in 1860 census Perry Twp Carroll Co. and James who was 12 in the same census. By 1870 they were in Monroe Twp Harrison Co. son James A. McKean was 23, and a salesman in his father's store, George was not with them. Sons George and James Mckean were probably born in Columbiana Co Ohio, this is where I found them with their father Charles in 1850 census. Charles was a dry goods merchant in all census.

Any connections, email me direct, I am not a McKean list member
Cramsey121@aol.com

Nelson Patterson & Jane McKean m. 1864 in Benton Harbor, Mi

I am looking for descendants of Nelson Patterson b. 1835 in Canada and Jane McKean who was living in the Benton Harbor, Mi area (Sodus Twp) when they got married on 2-13-1864. In the 1870 census there are McKeans in the Berrien Co census with heads of the family named S.V. McKean,Sullivan McKean, Thomas McKean, and Jerrard McKean. I am guessing that S.V. McKean married to Olive with a son Scott age 17 born in Ohio and Cyrus or Byron age 14 born in Mi would be the family of Jane. The parents of Nelson are Ephraim b. 1814 in NY and Jane Byce Patterson b. 1815 in Canada.

Dale McKean from Roberts Park, Illinois 1970

I am looking for Dale McKean that lived in/near Roberts park in Illinois. He was friends with the Barnes Family and I am told dated my mother Diana Marie Barnes at the time she was carring me. I am told that he wanted to marry her and that he loved her at one time. She obviosly did not love him, but I hoped he could help me to learn who my father is. I am going to be 31 on March 25, 2001 and I still do not know who is my father. She says she never slept with Dale McKean but she is known to have lyed to cover the truth of things. Is it possibe at all that Dale McKean could be my father? If not maybe Dale McKean could tell me what was going on then in my mothers life when she got pregnant with me and carried me or after I was born. Maybe she confided the truth to him. Maybe he has inside information that he isn't afraid to tell me. I just want the truth. I want to finally have some peace in my heart. My mother has never wanted me. She let relatives raise me. Why? Dale if you are reading this please contact me. My e-mail is barbieheim@hotmail.com Thank You. Any info. or input would greatly be appreciated. Lost in Wisconsin, Dawn Marie Barnes

Obituary for Elizabeth "Lizzie" McKean of Sonoma County, CA

Found the following obituary pasted in a book once belonging to my grandmother, Justena E. Kelly (nee Long). No date or source on the clipping, but it was from a newspaper in Sonoma County, California - possibly Santa Rosa or Guerneville. "Died Jan. 19th, 1945" is written below the clipping.

MRS. M'KEAN SUCCUMBS
Her many friends here were saddened last week by the sudden death of Mrs. ELIZABETH "LIZZIE" MCKEAN who was born and spent most of her life in Guerneville. She was stricken with a heart attack as she prepared to return home after completing treatment at a Santa Rosa hospital.

Mrs. McKean was a member of the pioneer POOL family. She was a sister of the late LEE, JOHN and CHARLES POOL, aunt of ELMER J., CLARENCE and Cpl. STITT POOL of the Army Air Forces, Mrs. W.K. SMITH and Mrs. GEO.
GARDNER.

Funeral services were conducted Monday from the R.M. Tunstall Funeral Home here with Rev. Hayden officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Guerneville IOOF cemetery.

Im trying to get some record (other than family name record) of Brownson, and see who / where he came from.....family lore has him as a relation (son) to Robert Mckean (NH) (brother of the signer) but doesnt seem likely, from what Ive found. Has anyone come across a Brownson/Brunson/Bronson Leighton Mckean??? Leighton sounds like a family name...will share all I have....mark - Idaho

Unk sister of Hiram, Harrison, and Samuel McKean, PA

I am searching for the parents of Julia Odell and Ross Odell both born Ohio, 1845 and 1850 respectively. They appear in the household of Hiram McKean in 1865 NYS census for Erwin (Painted Post) Steuben Co., NY. They are listed as his neice and nephew, along with another neice and nephew Delay F. and Nora H. McKean (children of Harrison McKean). I believe the mother of the Odell children is a sister to Harrison and Hiram and possibly a Stephen McKean, all born in PA. Any help would be appreciated. Have will and probate for Harrison McKean as well as census info. Would love to share.

Looking for McKean ancestors. My Grandmother was, Isabella McKean Hollinsworth, born 1870 Campsie, Stirling, Scotland.
If the tradition of naming for the eldest female child was followed McKean would have been the maternal Grandmother's maiden name.
Isabella McKean Hollinsworth married James Sneddon. Not sure of date of marriage or place. They had five children, possibly seven, one of whom was my father James Sneddon. born Partick, Glasgow in 1893. My brothers name following the same tradition is Colin Hollinsworth Sneddon taking the maiden name of the paternal Grandmother. Does anyone have a possible link to the McKean ancestors of Isabella Hollinsworth, who may possibly have come from the Stirling area. Many thanks for any information forthcoming.

I'm searching for the parents of Henry Alexander McKean. He was born December 25, 1847 - maybe in Columbiana County, Ohio. He moved with his family to Indiana when he was 10-15 years old. He died November 9, 1913 in Martin County, Indiana. He was married to Anna Elizabeth McElroy (married November 29, 1865 in Greene County, IN). Does anyone have any information on Henry's parents or any siblings? Thanks for the information.

Robert McKean Born 1834 Ohio

Robert McKean was my GG Grandfather, born somewhere in Ohio in 1834. I do not know where or who his parents are...this is the information I am looking for. He moved to Fremont County, Iowa where he married Eliza Elizabeth Fowler English. Hopeing I can find someone to give me any information at all. There is a Levi McKean burried in the same cemetery had could possible be his father or uncle. My great grandfather's name was Levi Thaddeus which is why I think there will be a connection between Robert and Levi.
