The info I've had for ages is:
The parents of David, the Immigrant, b. 1610 in Scotland and Andrew, his brother, were Esther & John McKee. They were the only ones of the family who came to America.
I have never found anything naming different bros. of David.
but another, Ilene Jones, is researching Wiliam, father of Andres. I've never seen the Book of McKee. I'd like to know who a brother of David McKee might be.
An Andrew with bros., Wm. and Thos, came in 1757 rode in Revolution and Andrew md. Mary Bamford, in Chester, Pa., to Westmorland , to Armstrong Co., but I have not tied them to be the same person.
I'm sorry but I haven't done any research on David McKee. I got alot of information from 'The Book of McKee' which I found in the PA state library in Harrisburg PA. I believe it had more information on David & his brothers, but I did not copy those pages. Sorry I can't give you more help.

I am a descendant of the McKee family but not directly from David and Margaret. My ancestor was Andrew, and we are still trying to prove his father. I wonder if you have done any research on David's ancestors in Scotland? If so, please let me know if you have found any mention of William, Thomas, or Andrew in your research? I will be going to Salt Lake City in a few days, and I will see if I can find any document to prove the adoption in Pennsylvania of John Henry by his aunt and Uncle.

John Henry Woods McKee

Hi – I am related to the McKees as follows”
David & Margaret McKee,
John (1746-1807) & Sally Redick McKee (founders of McKeesport Pa),
John (1794-1860) & Sarah Brison McKee (1796-1860)(dau of James &Lydia McDowell Brison),
John Henry & Sarah Tabler McKee,
Mary Woods McKee & John Titus Hunt,
Edward W Hunt & Eleanor Johnson,
Susan Hunt

John & Sarah Brison McKee had 8 children all of whom were either still born or died very young. Sarah's sister Mary Brison (m Thomas Woods son of Archibald Woods of Wheeling). Mary & Thomas also had 8 children of which at least 6 lived past infancy. Thomas Woods d in New Orleans about 1832. In 1833 Mary & Thomas' son, John Henry Woods (1829-1886) was adopted by his aunt & uncle Sarah & John McKee by act of the Pennsylvania Legislature according to 'History of Monroe and Shelby Co Missouri', published in 1888. He became John Henry McKee. All the documents I have found about him list him under the name of McKee except his grandfather Archibald Woods' will in 1846.

My question is - in all the research about this McKee family, has anyone come across this act of the Legislature of PA in which he was legally adopted.

Thanks for the help --- Sue

Leslie
Some of my McKee family emigrated to the Bay City area sometime between 1878 and 1881. This family was headed by William McKee b.1878 in Ontario and his wife Rebecca Jeanette Lawson b. 1850 in Ontario. The first of their many children were born in Ontario (Mary or Marion, John/ Jack William and Thomas Marnes); all the rest (but one, Robert Lawson) where born in Bay City (Alex, Agnes, Anabel Weston, James, Harriet and Ruth). Robert Lawson McKee was born in St. Helen's, Roscommon, Michigan. The McKee family originated in Ireland. Does any of this sound familiar to you.

Denise

I have been looking for 20 plus years for Fredrick before he was murdered in Savannah, but haveh't been successful. If you know anything about his parents, where he was born, etc., I would appreciate getting it. I have a lot about Richard's descendants which I would love to share.
Re: David McKee b abt 1845 Ohio

A couple of years late - but I am trying to research the same person - here is what I know: David McKee was born July 22, 1842 in Nelsonville, Athens Co., Ohio - He served in the 18th OVI from 1861 - 1864. Prior to enlisting he lived on the farm of Olney Whitmore (this is according to his obituary). The 1860 Census shows a Wm McKee living with N.O. Whitmore. I am thinking that he was born William David and took the name David instead of William. He died on the day of his son's (Reese) funeral, March 8. I would appreciate and more information that anyone has, and I hope this was helpful.
Sorry I can't be of any help. There is a Kacie in my family, interesting. It seems to me that the various ancestry sites do not work well for researching living relatives. I think there are other sites that would be much more likely to produce results for you since they are set up to make connections between contemporary living individuals. I constantly get e-mails from several of them wanting me to join so that they will be willing to tell me who has searched for "Thomas McKee". There must be 1000's of us, there are 4 just in my immediate family. My younger brother, Micheal was born in 1949, married three times, never left TX and as far as I know never had any children. He died in 2001 in Houston. Good luck tracking down your dad.

McKee, Edgar, Carson - Saintfield/Boardmills/Killaney, County Down, Ireland

Hello, I am looking for the SIBLINGS of my great, great grandmother, MARGARET AGNES MCKEE, b. June 9, 1820 Saintfield/Presbyteian Boardmills, County Down, Ireland.

MARGARET AGNES MCKEE had two brothers that I know of - ROBERT MCKEE and JAMES MCKEE. Her parents were ROBERT MCKEE and MARY CARSON. There is a MARY CARSON b. August 6, 1784 at Presbyterian Boardmills, County Down with parents WILLIAM CARSON and MARGARET MACKELWAIN(different spellings), but there is no way I can be certain that THIS MARY CARSON is my MARGARET AGNES MCKEE'S mother!

MARGARET MCKEE married SAMUEL EDGAR, who was b. January 18, 1814 at Presbyterian Boardmills, County Down, son of JOHN EDGAR and MARGARET HARVEY. They married about 1842, probably in Saintfield or Presbyterian Boardmills. I do not know the exact date of their marriage but their first child Robert Edgar was bap. at Boardmills on August 5, 1843. Children of SAMUEL and Margaret were ROBERT (1843-died as child), MARGARET HARVEY (1845-1919), ROBERT MCKEE (1848-1931), MARY JANE (1852-1926), WILLIAM JOHN(1855-died b/f 1860) and AGNES(1858-died b/f 1860).

The family left (no William John or Agnes listed with family on ship's list) for Canada on Nov. 27, 1860 via Liverpool and New York on the "City of Baltimore" ship. The family eventually settled north of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, near Apsley. SAMUEL EDGAR was a Stonemason.

I am not sure whether MARGARET MCKEE'S brothers ROBERT MCKEE or JAMES MCKEE ever came to Canada.

Any help on my family would be so appreciated! Thank you.

John McKee (Nov 1833 Quebec - 1913 South Dakota) via Vermont & Iowa

My McKee line evidently came from Ireland via Quebec, Canada. My earliest ancestor John McKee can be found at age 17 in the 1850 census of Division 20, Washington, Iowa living with a John McKee (aged 75) and Margarett McKee (aged 69). I'm not sure if these are his parents because another group of McKee's are neighbors living with a William McKee (aged 39) and Nancy McKee (aged 39).

In 1860, John McKee is married to Margarett (last name not known) living in Winneshiek, Iowa with kids William W. (age 6), Cecile M (age 5) both born in Vermont, Arthur M. (age 3) and Bertram E. (age 11 months) both born in Iowa. My ancestor is Bertram. By 1870, Margarett (some people read as Maryett) is no longer and John McKee has remarried Abbie Jane (last name unknown). They proceed to live long lives eventually moving from Iowa to Brule, South Dakota were Abbie Jane dies sometime between 1900 & 1910. In the 1910 census, John McKee is listed as widowed and living as an 'inmate' at the Chamber Sanitarium and Hospital. In 1913, he shows up as buried at the State Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

Does anyone else have information on this line?

Hi, Ilene, I think we have been over this before, but I was having computer trouble. 2nd, I could not verify the info I have. It was just a couple of paragraphs in a history I had.
David the Immigrant was born in 1710, not 1610, and I show John and Esther to be his parents. I wrote that of about 10 siblings, whose names I have, only 2 went to U.S. They were Andrew and David, the youngest child. I believe they were born in Scot. and moved to Ireland. Did your William stay in Ireland? I can look up the bros. names if you think any of this fits.
Are you the person who said you were going or had been to Scotland and looked at some records there and couldn't verify ?? and something
about twins. This might be another woman. If you really meant David the immigrant was b. 1610, he is too old-I have the Immigrant's will.
I believe I have info on the Andrew who came to U.S. The name Bamford pops into my mind as a wife.

This won't help you much, but for what it's worth: my 4th gr grandad was Samuel, died 1780 with 5 minor children, in Westmorland Co., Pa.
next to McKeesport. Articles say Samuel rode with his brother, Capt. Robert, also Westmor. Co., with children the same names. They were always having to fight indians. I've tried to connect with David,
the immigrant father of founding father of McKeesport, John. David also had a son, Robert, 1740-1782 but there is only a slight possibility my Saml. was his son, possibly they were cousins as there are many similarities to the families.
There is also another Robert in Westmorland who was an army man during the same time period,(late 1700's) and of course, the McKee way, they always named their kids the same names, after grandfathers. (Many Davids). Many died middle aged, and can't prove it, but since they were all given land to live in the outlying areas to protect villages, and I have found petitions from McKees, asking Gov. Pitt to send troops, (the wedding day massacre was on property next to my grandfathers) I think they died in indian battles.
I have a lot of info, especially on the children of David the immigrant. I have his Will, if you are trying to trace back to him. (1710-1795, I believe, without taking time to look it up.) Donna
