Looking on info for a John McKelvey born abt. 1822 in SC. He was married abt. 1843 to Elizabeth Adair who was born abt. 1822 in Laurens Co. SC. They had several children of which I am most interested is their daughter Laura Ann McKelvey born abt. 1852 in Tallapoosa Co. AL. She married a Tate, I believe the first name was James bef. 1870. I am trying to find a record of her children. I know she had a son John Oscar abt. 1872 and another son Loomis in 1886. I am trying to tie a daughter named Mattie Lenora born abt. 1874 to her and James. Does anyone have any info on this line? Also, I am trying to determine where in SC John McKelvey is from. Thanks.

I am researching another McKelvey family with South Carolina/Illinois roots and saw your message. A David McKelvey, date-of-birth July 1865, Ireland, and wife Stella, date-of-birth Dec. 1873, Iowa, appear in the 1900 Federal Census for Monmouth Township, Warren County, Illinois. David and Stella also appear in the Monmouth, Warren, Illinois census returns for 1910, 1920 & 1930. Shown living with them are son George A. (or N.) (May 1894, Illinois), daughter Mary J. (Jul 1896, Illinois), daughter Susana (Dec. 1896, Illinois), and son William (abt. 1903, Illinois). According to the 1900 census, David immigrated to the U.S. in 1885. The Illinois Marriages, 1851-1900 database includes a record of marriage on 9 Nov 1892 in Warren County, Illinois between David Adair McKelvey and M. Stella Norris. This David McKelvey does not appear to be related to the McKelvey’s I’m researching but hopefully this information is helpful to you.

MRS. NORA M. McKELVEY

Mrs. Nora M. McKelvey, 64, of 200 Princeton Ave., Bricktown, N.J., died yesterday at Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant, N.J.

She was born in Beaver Meadows, daughter of the late John F. and Theresa Cole, and was a member of St. Dominic’s R.C. Church, Bricktown.

Surviving are her husband, John; four daughters: Mrs. Ilene C. Ringrose, Athens, Greece; Joan McKelvey, Hillsborough, N.J.; Mrs. Rosemary Zekert, St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Dennis T. Malone, Bricktown, N.J.; three brothers: Edward, Philadelphia; Martin, Rochester, N.Y.; and James, Hellertown; and two sisters: Mrs. Ilene Campbell, Levittown; and Sister Mary Leocadia, RN, Dallas. Nine grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Pier Ave. and Route 70, Bricktown, N.J., with mass at St. Dominic’s Church at 11 a.m. and interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Tom’s River, N.J. Friends may call at the funeral home today 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

I realize that your posting is quite old however I have just begun to research my family due to a 95 year old mother that would like to know where my father's family actualy backs up to. We have very little information to go with other than my ggrandfather came to US from Ireland. He usually told people he was Scotch/Irish due to the stigma attached to the Northern Irish. We do know Belfast was his home and he came to the US sometime around the age of 16 (give or take). David Adair McKelvey born roughly in 1854. Married Estella Norris in Illinois. McKelvey, Alexander (Presbyterian Minister)

I am a 5th generation McKelvey in Australia descending form William McKelvey b. 1837 who migrated from Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland in 1856 to Melbourne, Australia. His parents were John and Ann Orr McKelvey from Toye near Killyleagh. We know that he had brother's Alexander b. c1829 and Joseph b. c1841 who migrated to the USA. Alexander became a Presgyterian minister and in 1881 was the minister at the Canal Street church, 17 Greene St, New York City. He also spent time in Boston. We believe he had 3 sons, one a Joseph we believe also became a minister.

His Brother Joseph also migrated to New York where he married and had children. His marriage failed later in life and at the age of 63 he migrated to Australia where he lived the final 10 years of his life with his brother William at Apollo Bay in Victoria Australia. On his passing in 1914 his son wrote to my great great grandfather William thanking him for caring for their father.

I would be interested in making contact with anyone who may be related to either Alexander or Joseph McKelvey in the USA who may be able to shed further light on the family lines there.

Her parents were David L McKelvey & Eleanor Rankin.

Odds are, none of us are entitled to really bear the arms of any "family crest" you could look up in a computer database.

Arms are inherited only in the male line - and do NOT NOT NOT belong to everybody with the same last name. You might as well use the coat of arms of Richard the Lionheart - you're probably related to him too and it would not be less authentic than what you find from a computer in an Irish gifts store.

The American College of Heraldry has some good articles about this in their FAQ page.

I am looking for information on the family of Charles E. McKelvey. He was about abt 1880 to Margaret Frankenberger and Unknown McKelvey. His father died 8 Apr. 1886 and his mother Margaret remarried to Andrew Perry Jones on 15 Jan 1887 in Venango County. She had at least three children by this marriage May, Maude, and Lewis Edward Jones. Andrew Perry died in 1902 and Margaret remarried again to William Raifsnyder in about 1904.
Charles lived in the Oil City, Pennsylvania area and married Myrtle unknown.
Their children include Leona, Myra Blanch, Elsie M. and William C. or G.

Is anyone connected to this family or have more information concerning them?

Hi Jeff,

I too have always been fascinated with our ancestry. I know my great grandfather (I'm 32) cam from buxton england and know we are part of the Campbell clan (scottish origins). Form what I can gather on the web, and speaking to some family who know a little bit, we we're scottish low landers loyal to britain, due to land promises etc. The Mckelvey's then moved to northern ireland to help with the uprising of catholic Ireland at the time, I'm not very sure of the dates and I apologize, but I think it coincided with the battle of the boyne and bonny william. From there it was to England, were the Mckelveys were masonry men, tis may have happened in our earlier days in scotland but I know a lot of people in my family our in the construction business. I am from Quebec, which also makes sense as the British were trying to flood the french colonist to, as the British do so to speak "breed them out".
Any info or corrections would be greatly appreciated. By the way, we now reside in Cambridge.

John “Sickle” McKelvey, He was called “Sickle” John because he made sickles during the war of 1812. Mary “Polly” Nesbit was the daughter of William Nesbit and Esther Robison.
My information is from the little red book titled: The McKelvys, The Story of the McKelveys in America by Ellen Jane McKelvey Mabon.
I think the book was made for family only and given as a Christmas gift in 1928?

William (b. 1831 Father John McKelvey, mother Mary Polly Nesbit) is his father. And William will marry Elizabeth Fee and have, Flora, Isaac, James, John, Sarah, Margaret, Samuel, Mary Ethel, Quentin, and Lois.

Looking for information on William CARSON McKelvey born around 1858/59 in Ohio maybe Holmes Co. His father is William McKelvey born 1831 Poland, Mahoning Co., Ohio and died 1892/95 Corydon, Wayne Co. Iowa.
William McKelvey born 1831 was married twice, William Carson McKelvey is from his first wife. William (b.1831) second wife is Elizabeth Fee (b. Apr. 20 1841 Ohio d. Sept. 22 1908 Iowa), Elizabeth and William had eleven children, first 10 children born in Ohio his youngest Lois H. McKelvey born in Iowa.
William Carson McKelvey married Phoebe Hanna daughter of Milton Hanna of Holmes Co., Ohio.

Who is your message/request intended for? That is, whose grandfather? All of us would be helped by some dates (birth, death, etc), some other names (ancestors. siblings, or descendents of "Charles McKelvey"), and some places (where was Charles McKelvey born, where did he live, and where did he die). Without at last some of this information, you appear to want a lot for nothing.

I'd seriously question the assertion that McKelvey's, Campbell's, or
other clans were "loyal to Britain". In fact, the relationship
between the Gaelic population of the north and English government is
a history of one side doing its best to exterminate the other.

Part of the history is land grab, pure and simple. A larger part is the
conflict between established religion and dissidents (read
Presbyterians, Quakers, etc.). The English were comfortable letting
the Scots 'emigrate' to Northern Ireland, but even happier if they
could be shipped even farther away (Eastern Canada & US, Australia,
and New Zealand). That the Roman Catholic monarchy (really a Scots
family) was banished and Protestantism triumphed in Britain enhanced
other conflicts (viz, English vs French).

Suffice to say the most ironic twist is Northern Ireland's current support of British rule as an alternative to becoming part of "Ireland". But, then, maybe it's
not so surprising, considering that what they're fighting is becoming
part of a predominately Roman Catholic country. Some things never
change....

If you're referring to the son of Albert and Nathalia, there is a very tenuous connection with my family, 4 generations back, in Ohio. Possibly, the birth of a son (Santa Barbara, 21-Jul-1952, McKelvey, Fredrick Charles, Mo maiden name: Rosenau). But, the last positive I've found on him is a WWII enlistment record in 1941. Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Ethel) KRANTZ, Mrs. August (Mildred) CORDUS, both of this city; one brother, William McCARTY of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza ARMANTROUT and Mrs. Floyd (Dora) NEWELL, both of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one gr great grandchild. Fuenral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Van’t Hof Funeral Home. Rev Louis AMES officiating. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. McKELVEY will repose at the chapel where relatives and friends may call Thursday and Friday from 3-5 and 7-9.

I am looking for any McKelvey family history. My grandfather on my mom's side was born in Lakewood, NJ. His name was Benjamin Frederick McKelvey n 1886 and I know his birthday was July 28. He had brothers named Pierce McKelvey (maybe first name was Franklin?) and middle name Pierce. He also had a brother named John and a sister named Florence that I know of. I am trying to trace that history back as far as I can to find parent's names, places of birth, death, years, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Norbert A. McKelvey

Of Burns Crossing, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1978, after an extended illness. Mr. MCKelvey retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad’s East Altoona shops in 1953. He was born Jan. 23, 1897, in Altoona, the son of Martin and Effie (Pringle) McKelvey, and on Dec. 23, 1920 to Pearl Whitezel. Surviving are his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Freda Morrison of Burns Crossing, one grandchild and three sisters, Mrs. Madaline Kupter of Ardmore, Mrs. Minnie Stephens of Tipton and Mrs. Pauline Taylor of Bellwood. Mr. McKelvey served in the Army Medical Corps during World War I. Friends will be received in the Donald E. Liebegott Funeral Home, Duncansville, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 1to 2 p.m. Friday in the Mennonite Church, Canan Station.

I am serching for any of the above names They lived in St Armand,Dunham ,Missisquia and of Orford Quebec
The first one I have is a Danial Mckelvey. All I know about him is he owned land in 1800 and 1801 in Dunham quebes.
Next is a James Mckelvey B 1774 Ireland D 1861 St armand Qc wife Jane hunter had 5 children Eliza,James,Alexander,John and robert
Eliza married a Andrew Calhoun 10 children. Alexander dies young,
John Mckelvey married a Isabella Beattie,
James mckelvey jr married a Mary Blood.
Robert all I have is his birth date and that he lived in NY city.
I am trying to close holes. I do have a lot of information on them already, but like I said still filling holes. If anyone has information I will share if you will as well.

I too am searching for descendants of the McKelvey(Mckelvie)family. Jeremiah Mckelvey was married to Francis Oliver. Together they had several children, Bertha, Lorraine,Woodraw and one other. Jeremiah had a sister Carrie, Annie and brother Mike. Any assistance would be great.
