Their father Patrick Mc Glynn became a naturalized citizen in Philadelphia in 1851. They next show up on the New York Broome Co (Binghamton) 1860 census.
Christopher McGlynn and Mary McKeon dates can be verified on their headsones located in the catholic cemetary on Riverside Dr, Binghamton. Mary Mc Keon born 1851 and Christopher born 18 Aug 1845.

Dear James,I realize that you posted your question over 9 years ago,but I do have a few answers.James McKeon's first wife was Alice McKeown McKeon, born approximately in 1869.She died in 1911.James McKeon's mother was Catherine McCormack.Catherine came to the U.S in 1847,on a famine ship @ the age of12. I did not know the name of his father Robert or that he was born in the U.S.My mother is Mary McKeon Donnelly, the granddaughter of James and daughter of Arthur and Helen McKeon.I believe Arthur was your fathers half brother.Good luck with your research.

Brenda,
That is something I would also like to find out about. I've checked and just couldn't find anything as to where the McKeon's lived in Ireland. They are a lot of McKeon's from different counties in Ireland so if by any change you come across that information please let me know.
I am a descendant of Raymond McKeon, My grandfather was Peter McKeon, who was Son of John McKeon. Sylvester's father was Peter's brother. I have been tracing the family since 1976. I'm in Sylvester's book.
Good luck. Marilyn

If your grandfather was a Moran, try researching the Irish counties of Offaly and Mayo, which have the largest concentration of Morans. If you have some birthdates, you will find census information on the counties' websites.

Are you familiar with www.CyndisList.com? It is a great place to start. It has connections for places all over the world. You can find a link to practically all counties in Ireland, and the site is set up in alphabetical order and is easy to use. If you need any advice along the way, I'll be happy to try to help.
Jo McGlynn
claddgh44@hotmail.com

Hi Brianna,

Thanks for answering. My Moran dad married a lady named McKeon in the late 1930's in spite of friends' warning him that she was cheating on him while they were engaged. The marriage lasted only about a year, and I'm curious about the exact dates. He got a divorce, then an annulment. A few years later, he met and married my mom. So we cannot be related that way. I don't know where you live, but all my Moran family relations came from Ireland from Co. Offaly and settled in CT and NY. That could be a connection.

Glad to see you are interested in your roots. Don't give up your searching. Connections often pop up when you least expect it. After years of searching for information about two of my Moran granduncles who emigrated from Ireland in 1867, I found a posting on Ancestry from one of their descendants, who was searching for us. We are in regular contact, and my husband and I plan a visit to Australia soon to visit hundreds of my relatives! A cousin on my mother's side of the family found me, and we ended a silly family estrangement of an earlier generation. She and her husband attended all my children's weddings. So hang in there! Good luck with your searching.
Jo McGlynn

I'm researching my McKeown/McKeon family history and had a sister named Grace. My Grandmother was Margaret McKeown from Cork City, Cork, Ireland. She married Michael Manning in 1884 in Troy, NY. Margaret's parents were John McKeown and Catherine Moriarty. I'm looking for any connection for this family, and have not been able to find relatives in Ireland. The McKeowns lived at 35 Kiel's St. in 1864 when Margaret was born.
She had brothers, Martin and John, and a sister, Roseanna. John also went to Troy, NY. Both brothers were alive in 1919 when Margaret died.

Dear Matthew,

It would be helpful if you could post the location in Ireland where your Patrick might have lived. There are LOTS of Patrick (Padraigs) in Ireland. My dad is Patrick Joseph McKeon, Jr.; his father came from Ireland in the 1920s and ended up in Boston by mistake. He was intending to get to New York to meet up with his sisters. Their father, Patrick McKeon b. 1863 in Ballyvary, Currane, County Mayo, was married to Julia Clisham; his father, Anthony McKeoWn, b. 1830, was married to an Ann Roach, daughter of Anthony and Honora Roach, and that's where I'm stuck.
I, too, am descended from James McKeon and Ann Smith. Their daughter Ellen was my ggrandmother. I show them as coming from Kildare, Ireland; however, I don't remember who told me that--could have been my father. I have quite a bit on their descendents in my tree Anderson-Beaumont-Spainhour on ancestry.com. If you see any errors/ommissions, please let me know. I can invite you to the tree if you'll email me ncmeehoo@yahoo.com. Any info you have would be appreciated.
Sharon

I am looking for the town of origin of my great great grandfather, Patrick McKeon(b. 1843-1845)in Ireland. He married Mary Mooney(b-1851) about 1870. She lived in Creggs, County Galway in Ireland. She came to the US in 1870. They may have been married before she arrived. I am not sure when he came to the United States. They had 5 sons: John(my great grandfather), Patrick, Thomas, Hugh, and Michael. They also had a daughter, Margaret. Mary died about 1881. He died in 1906. They are both buried in St. Joseph's cemetary in Warren, Pennsylvania, where they lived.

One of their daughters married a James Brennan.

Catherine (Catharine/Katherine) McKeon b. 1871 d. ? married Frank McKee and lived in Brooklyn, New York. They had one son, James E. I don't know where in Ireland they were from and I'm hoping to connect with family to share what information I have uncovered so far!

For interest, the McKeon's named in McKeon Square and McKeon Road in Worcester are descendants of Patrick and Bridget McKeon. I'd love to share our family history with you.

Patricia McKeon

Through the New England Historic Genealogical Society I found a record for a James McGurn (likely a misspelling) born in Leicester, MA on 13 July 1886. Parents are listed as Edward and Bridget McKairn or McKavin (hard to read her maiden name). Edward and Bridget are listed as born in Ireland. Vol: 369 ; Page: 345

I found a marriage record for Alice C. Tranior and Frederick Hanratty Aug 16 1910. A first marriage for both. She was 21 and he was 26. Their marriage took place in Leicester. She is the daughter of Matthew and Bridget Trainor. He is the son of Patrick J. Hanratty and Maria M. Murphy.

It looks like James and Alice were married after 1910. BMD records are not viewable on line at NEHGS but you could check with Leicester Town Hall for their marriage record.
I have a copy of a will from James McKeon Sr. of Blackstone MA. It was written in March of 1887. It lists:
Sons, Francie, Owen, daughter Mary Krirnan who is married and now a resident of Taunton, each five dollars.
Daughter Margaret McKeon(Maggie)100 dollars.
Daughter Rose McKeon sometimes called Rosa three hundred dollars.
Daughter Ellen McKeon sometimes called Nellie three hundred dollars.
The rest of the estate to my son James McKeon,Junior.
James signed with his mark and it was witnessed by Arthur A Putnam, Edmund O. Bacon, and Laurene Boylan.
I obtained this will because I am looking for James McKern of MA or Columbia county NY and this will was listed as James McKern. I will send it to you if you want it.
Good luck,
lisa mckern
Dear Pat,
Might your grandfather Patrick McKeon (b. 1886) have had a father named Peter McKeon, who was born in Ireland around 1845 and arrived in New York in the 1860s? I'm trying to locate this particular Peter McKeon in records after 1874 but have had no luck. He's the son of James McKeon and Marcella Lynch. In 1867 he married Christina Reddy, who died in 1874. In 1869 he lived in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. I don't know if he remarried. He had at least two brothers: John (1840-1902) and Philip (1859-1894).

Would appreciate your help if there's any connection to your family.

Thanks,
Matthew McKeon

Thanks for the info on your Patricks, but from what I know so far there isn't a connection between mine and yours. The Patrick I'm looking for was born right around 1845 and his parents were James McKeon/Marcella Lynch. Good luck with your search.
Matthew

Hi,
Thanks for replying. We've been told by my grandmother that my gr. grandfather Hugh McKeon was a stone cutter & was instrumental in building the cathedral in Albany, N.Y. I wonder if this is the same man. I have some info in an old bible my mom gave me I'll have to check.
Thanks, Laurie

Jackie,

You are most welcome! The Church of the Latter Day Saints had Edward listed as "Edward McKown" in the Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts 1880 census. Edward was living on the 'Main Road on Cherry Valley, Leicester, MA'. [see WWW.familysearch.org] At this time he was single and working in a woolen mill. He had been born in Ireland as were his parents. He did not read or write English. Edward McKown was boarding with Joseph Gilligan and family.[Census 1880 Enumeration District 814 page 27]

The 1920 Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts census [abbr]
Edward McKeon, head, 70 yrs, M, immigrated 1875, farmer, Ire Ire Ire
Bridget McKeon, wife, 60 yrs, M, 1885 immmmigrated
James, McKeon, son 28 yrs, single, MA Ire Ire, carder in woolen mill
John McKeon, son, 21 yrs, single, MA Ire Ire, laborer in woolen mill
Margaret McKeon, daughter, 18 yrs, single, MA Ire Ire, bookkeeper in auto???,
Minnie McKeon, daughter, 30 yrs?, single, MA Ire Ire, graduate nurse works out OA
Catherine McKeon, daughter, 17 yrs, single, MA Ire Ire, bookkeeper in Automobile ?
Charles McKeon, adopted son, 19 yrs, single, born in Ma, parents born in MA, machanist in machine shop [ED95 page 5B]

Just a few pointers for your research: surnames of immigrants were often mis-spelled, birthdates may be off at much at 10 years, and families often lived together when they emigrated (even though the census states he was a boarder, Edward, may be related to Joseph Gilligan or his wife, or he may be from the same townland in Ireland). The Irish did live in the same areas here in the United States, but it is my experience that most of the time, there was usually some family relationship, so the Gilligan's might provide a clue in you quest. Since Edward was born prior to 1864, Edward's marriage record, naturalization, and immigration records are the best sources of locating where in Ireland, your ancestor hailed from. The sources of information closest in date to the actual event are usually the most accurate. In requesting a marriage record, you will want to ask the town clerk for the information the bride and groom completed in order to file for a marriage certificate. The marriage record should provide you with their parents names and places of birth. Edward does not to appear to have become a naturalized citizen, so it may be a bit more difficult to find his immigration record, but not impossible. Seeing that he ended up on the east coast within 5 years, I would look for immigrations from Boston, NY, and Canada or other eastern ports. If any of Edward's siblings names were known, you may wish to search their records to see if they lend a clue as to where the family hailed.

Have you checked the court records? Edward adopted Charles so there should be guardianship papers on him in the records. In addition, since Edward owned property in Leicester, he may have had a Will which MIGHT provide an address of a living relative in Ireland. Wills often listed siblings as well as children's names. Best of luck. Let me know if I can be of further help.
-Nancy

Found him in the WWI registration records (note: Leicester is part of Worcester County):

James Edward McKeon, 30 years old, born 14 July 1886 in Leicester, Massachusetts, resided at Chapel Street, Leicester, Massachsuetts on 5 June 1917 when he registered for WWI in Leceister, Mass. He was a farmer employed by Edward McKeon of Leicester. At this time, James was single. He was tall, had a stout build, blue eyes and brown hair. [cite: WWI Registration Cards, 1917-1918 for Massachusetts, East Brookfield City, Thomas J. Welch]

Also found the family in the 1920 Census. James was listed with his parents Edward and Bridget as well as many siblings including one adopted son. Parents were from Ireland. Father immigrated in 1875 and mother in 1885. Would you like the details of the census?
-nancy
