Andrew and Thomas McKinsey/McKinzie and George W McKinsey

My 4Grandfather Andrew McKinzie(b.1786) lived in Fairfield, Butler Co, Ohio. Listed as McKinsey in 1820 census. Also found Thomas McKinsey(b.1750's) in same township. I'm looking for any definitive or speculative links on their relationship; possibly father or uncle.
Less than 30 miles away George W McKinsey (b.1752 Scotland) and his family had settled in Warren and Clinton Counties, Ohio. Both family groups later migrated to adjacent areas in Indiana. Any evidence or anecdotes that might definitively link the two families? George W McKinsey's grandfather was a MacKenzie
Coincidences abound in family naming conventions as well as spatially and temporally, so it is likely they are related. Any information would be appreciated!
Thanks!

She named her four children:
Sarah Ann, Andrew Pickens, Anna C., and Warren. Do any of these sound familiar?
Thanks

Hi Bobbie,
Thanks for the approx. 1797 date, that's something to look for. According to my grandmother's notes :
Jane Williams had two brothers, Frank and Amos.
Asa had three brothers who came to America with him, one of them named Dick.
Of the eight children, I only have dates on Daniel (thanks to Viva McKinzie) and Asa (my grandmother's grandfather), born 11 November, 1844 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Died 9 October, 1937 in Bakersfield, California. Asa served in the Civil War as a confederate in the calvary, according to his pension request.
Asa and Daniel's brother Alex died in the Civil War. Their brother Frank died on trip to California, and buried in Bakersfield under a tree. Their sister Mary married Sam Ratlief. Their sister Sarah married Frank Smith, and is buried in Davis Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
There also is another Asa. The son of a brother of Asa (1844-1937). There is a land deed record between him and his sons Clyde A. McKenzie (with wife Thelma E.) and Charlie F. McKenzie (single man), and daughter Edith L. Murry. Noted grant to Henry F. McKenzie, a widower. Henry and his wife, Edith, had a son Roland, and daughters Bell and Maude. The land deed was in Kern County, California, dated 27 March, 1941.
This is all I know, outside of my Asa's descendants.
Thanks again for your response. I wish you and yours well.
Terri

Hi Terri,
I have absolutely no information on Asa or Jane Williams. All I know of Asa is that his birth was about 1797 in Scotland and they had 8 children. I have the names of the children but no birthday or birthplace on any of them. I had not heard of any relation to Sam Houston. Interesting.
We was on vacation last week with Jack McKinzie (husband's uncle) but he is no help at all as far as family is concerned. Jack's father, Grover C McKinzie, died when he was a small boy and he was raised by his mother's family. He knows very little about the McKinzie clan. I have information on Daniel's side from his birth to present.
Sorry I am not much help.

Bobbie

Searching for information on William McKinzie, b abt 1824 in Sevier Co, TN, the son of Charles McKinzie and Nancy Ellen Dorcas Ellis. He appears on the 1850 Murray Co, GA census with his family as a 26 year old teacher, but I do not find him afterwards. His parents and brothers, John, James, and Kenneth McKinzie are found next in Comanche County, Texas.

I would love to connect with his family.

Sharon

My grandmother on my mother's side was named Virgie McKinzie and she married Stephen Henry Austin Walker and they had six children. The children are: Gertie Tee and Mertie Lee (twin girls), Roma Oneal Walker, Dennis Stephen Walaker. James Ernest Lafayette Walker, Marvin Doyle--who died after just a few days of life. I do not know if any of these are listed in the Bible that you now hold in your possession, but I would be most interested in being able to search it to find out if any of the people listed are my relatives or not.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Geraldine (Belsha) McGhen

Edith May McKinzie

Looking for info on Edith May McKinzie who was an owner of the McKinzie Grocery & Auto Camp in Hemet, Riverside County, CA in the 1920's-30's. Not sure if McKinzie was a married or maiden name but do know she married a Swanson between 1928-1934. I believe she probably had at least one child, though not sure if this was by Swanson or a previous relationship. Edith and Mr. Swanson were no longer together by 1950. I believe that Edith might also have been involved in a well-drilling business at some point in the same timeframe. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Roderick McKinzie

Thank you, Judy.

I have some land warrants for Roderick, Charles, John, and a couple other McKinzies for Sevier Co, TN. It appears that Roderick had sons John, Charles, and Cornelius with him in TN -- but that is only making use of their ages and the place of the land warrants to figure out their relationships -- no real proof. The Sevier courthouse burned in 1856, so all probate records and deeds went Poof. I'm looking at church records now, without any success.

I believe Roderick died between 1830 and 1840 in Sevier Co, TN. My Charles and (I believe) his nephew, James Henry (just "Henry" on the censuses -- son of John and grandson of Roderick) were in Murray Co, GA in 1850 -- the only 2 McKinzies in that county. My Charles moved on to Comanche and Bell Counties, Texas. He had one last tangle which proved fatal with the Comanches in 1863.

James "Henry" (John's son) was in Washington Co, Arkansas in 1860 and 1870, then was in Montague Co, TX in 1880.

Roderick's son, John, was in Pulaski Co, KY by 1840 and then went to Butler Co, AL as an old man where he died after the 1860 census.

Cornelius (Kneel) was in Blount Co, KY by 1840, and stayed there until I lost track of him after 1860.

I would love to find out for sure the relationships of these McKinzies. I know John is accepted as Roderick's son, but I haven't talked with anyone with proof.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sharon

I found historical references to Andrew Jackson and his brother John Fielding McKinzie (b1814) and their journey to Indiana. These records show an Andrew McKinzie (b1786) as their father and Mary Ann Thompson (b1791) as their mother. Their is anecdotal evidence that their grandfather was a Thomas McKinzie likely born between 1750-1760, also found in Fairfield, Butler, Ohio, but I have no definitive evidence yet.
Good luck on the search. Anyone else have more info?

There was also a Thomas McKinzie born 1750-1770 who is listed in the same town, but I have no record of relationship, or where in Ohio they may have come from. Anyone have a possible link or info on either of these people?

My ggggrandfather Andrew Jackson McKinzie, born in Ohio 1818 lived also in Indiana where he raised his family. Married to Sarah Wallace from Delaware. I'm looking for any records on his parentage. I found an 1811 marriage certificate for an Andrew McKinzie (1786) and Mary Ann Thompson (1791) that may be his parents from Butler, Ohio, but I have no confirmation of that fact. I know the family originally came from Scotland, not surprisingly.

Re: McKinzie, Asa

Thank you so much for your response. My grandmother, Virginia Wessel (grand daughter of Asa 1844-1937, brother of Daniel 1825-1909) had done some research. Through her work, including correspondence with Viva McKinzie (grand daughter of Daniel 1825-1909) and Dorothy Hill (also a grand daughter of Daniel 1825-1909), I have some information. I would like to know more about Daniel and Asa's parents, Asa McKinzie and Jane Williams. The little I know is that Asa was also referred to as "Eli", from Scotland. He showed up in 1880 census, Georgetown, Texas, with my grandmother's notation 1820? (possible birth year?). And, McKinzie in 1850 census in Brownsville, Tennessee. She also noted he raised race horses in Tennessee according to a second cousin in Texas (possibly Viva). In a note from Viva, she says that there were three brothers of Asa that came to America as well. She thought one was named Dick, who was a captain in George Washington's army. My grandmother recalled that her grandfather,Asa, said that his pappie and mother had slaves. My grandmother's notes on Jane Williams say that she was possibly from Missouri, Arkansas or Tennessee. And that a sister of hers was the mother of Sam Houston. A note from Dorothy Hill said that she didn't know how they (Asa and Jane) were kin to Sam Houston, she thought by marriage. I did a quick search on the internet and found Sam Houston's daughter, Margaret Lea Houston married Captain Weston Lafayette Williams. Do you have any information on Asa and Jane? Dates, records, birthplaces, any Scotland information? I would be very grateful. I do have more family tree information on Daniel, that you may already have. Also, that he is on the San Jacinto Battle Monument at La Port, Texas. If you would like any more of what I have on Daniel's family, I would be happy to send on to you. And, thank you again for your response.
Sincerely, Terri Wessel Turcott

Help with Nichalos McKinzie 1850 Madison county Alabama. I'm trying to tie him to Nichalous McKinney 1860 Franklin county Alabama. The ages are about the same and the 1860 Nich named a son Nichalos P. also. Nichalos is listed several times from 1860-1880 Franklin county. His name changes each year. Once it is listed as M. McKinney. His wife is listed as Dovy and has been the same name as Rebecca Reid. I know this is quite a bit of information but tracking these McKinney's will make your head spin. The real one I'm trying to tie all to is 1900 Franklin county Alabama Louis W. McKinney my ggdad. I hope this makes some since and would appreciate any help.

Thanks very much
Harlon Mc

He had a brother named Jeff, who I believe may have been Thomas Jefferson McKinzie, born 7-31-1858 in Illinois and died 12-20-1936 in Welch, OK. So far I have not been able to tie them together as brothers. I know for sure that they were either brothers or cousins.
I do not know if the Brown's are of the same family I am looking for but my family lived in Hall County, GA. My G\G\Grandfather was born there in 1838. His name was William Nelson Brown. His sister, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Brown married a David Messer or Messner in 1871. If I am not mistaken a Mr. Hughes and his mother Lydia Hughes took them in after their parents died. I am trying to find the name of their parents. Do you have any more information on the Browns listed in your query?

Do you know if William Elbert and Sarah had a son named after him? Born 1880. I do not have any of their children's names. Can you help? Elbert is an unusual name and I found it in a Murphree tree along with an uncle named Charles Elbert Murphree. This William Elbert was born 1861 or 2 and was the son of James Polk Murphree b. 1825.

Roderick is the father of John who is the father of James Henry. I have him having his children in Sevier. James Henry had a brother Charles Henry and I show his children born in Alabama. I am afraid none of my info is very good because my sources vary. I am trying to find someone with documentation, but nobody has any hard proof. Most went to the west it seems

Sorry I am not much help.

Judy
