My Father Clifford Sadler married Eva McLaughlin sometime before 1928 as when she crossed the border from NB she named him as her spouse. And when he crossed the border a year later he named her as his spouse. I find no trace of her after that and the 1930 census of Maine shows a Clifford Saddler living in Aroostook County, Maine as a boarder with another family. He then married my mother, Laura Miller, in 1934. Does anyone know of Eva McLaughlin?

Have just come across your message. In my family tree I have a Louisa Macey born in Coleraine about 1882, who married Henry McLaughlin. They immigrated to NewYork on the SS Columbia arriving 24/10/1909. Henry actually went to New York on SS City of Rome arriving 28/05/1900 so presumed he returned to Coleraine to marry Louisa and then went back in 1909. Can tell you more about the Macey side back to about 1750's but unfortunatley know nothing about the McLaughlins except Henry's father was probably James. Haven;t got anything on Henry & Louisa after 1909, but am still researching. If you have any info would love to hear it - contact me direct on mikemacey@live.co.uk, Will willingly share any info I have.

Best wishes

Mike
Not sure if we are related. I have William McLaughlin b 1762 -1829 married to Catherine Sweetser. He had 5 known children William, James, John, Seth and Miranda.

A brief attempted chronology of William's moves
1762 born in ?NH-lived in Groton, Haverhill, (Grafton Co., NH ) and or Bedford
1777 (age 15) enlisted in Rev War from Pembroke
1782 (age 20) abode Haverhill, NH
1785 (age 23) married in Prospect, (Frankfort Town) MA
1785 to 3/1789-( 23-28) Prospect, MA
1790 to 1794-(28-32) Cambridge Town, VT
1804 to 1809-(42-47) Argentiel ,Canada
- 1829- died in Fort Covington NY

I have little about John, I do have:
Traverse City newspaper-Grand Traverse Herald of 5-20-1859
Died - In Milton, May 6th, Mr. John McLaughlin, aged 67 years. Mr. McLaughlin was born in Cambridge, Vt., and went at an early age to Canada, but on the commencement of hostilities between Britain and the United States in 1812 he came back to Fort Covington, NY to enlist in his country's service. At the close of the war, he returned to Fort Covington where he lived until May, 1856, when he came west in quest of health, and settled on the eastern shore of Elk Lake ... He leaves a widow and two small children.
the article appears to have been written by a pastor, R. S. Latham.

Hope this helps

My Dad used to play golf with Glen. Glen grew up near Wakelee MI in Cass County. McLaughlin's ran the funeral parlor in Dowagiac for many years. They had two daughters, Rita and Glenna. They also fixed over the Lee house by the hospital in Dowagiac to apt.
I suggest you look in census and records for Cass County MI.

Hi, when you say you can only go back to 1906 -- what names/locations do you have from 1906? Are they your paternal McLAUGHLIN grandparents??
I have 2 McLAUGHLIN lines on my maternal side. I know one came from somewhere in Ireland, went to the Glasgow, Scotland area; then my great-great-grandfather Daniel McLAUGHLIN came to Boston (after marrying in Scotland & having their first 2 kids there) - not sure where his siblings wound up after 1861-Scotland.
My other McLAUGHLIN line came from the Carndonagh area of Co. Donegal - the eldest daughter Rosey married Michael McCOOL; Rosey's youngest daughter, Bridget, was my great-grandmother who emigrated to Boston in time to marry there in 1892.

Pls. advise what you know about the 1906-details, and I'll see if I can assist?

I would be interested to know if there is a cut in the corner of that picture. My great grand mother had a picture like that hanging in her dinning room. No one remembers where it went, but they all remember a cut in a corner. Apparently my father was wrestling with someone and they accidentally cut the picture.

I checked the painting and there is a scratch in the corner of the painting. It does not go all the way through. The painting was handed down through Henry & May McLaughlin to their 3rd son William Jennings to his daughter (my aunt)and then on to me. Be happy to make your acquaintance and share information.

I do not remember seeing this posting before. I believe I have seen your name on the Quandels site. Henry & May McLaughlin are my great grandparents. My Grandfather was William Jennings their 3rd child. He was married to Lillie "Bernice" Barrie. Their middle daughter is Billie Mae and I ma her daughter. I have been searching for Henry"s Mother. I was able to get into the Daughters of the American Revolution going through May. But genealogy is a never ending story and Henry's mother haunts me. Would be happy to correspond with you and share what I have. I can send you a photo of the Painting I have of Henry. He scares everyone who comes over.

In the 1860 census, Nathaniel & Melissa have 2 children from Melissa's previous marriage in their home, H.M. McLaughlin b. 1843 and Elizabeth McLaughlin b. abt 1845 (names were spelled McCloclin or McCloelin on census form). I do not have Melissa's maiden name. She states on census forms that she was born in Illinois and both of her parents were born in Tenn. Any chance of a connection to your James McLaughlin?

Just wondering what was your source for Omagh being an origin for John McLaughlin? Was it from what I've posted, or do you have another source?

Regards,

James Howard McLaughlin, born 10 Jun 1848 in Sharon, Richland, OH and died 17 Oct 1918 in Bridger, Carbon, MT married Anna Elliott. They had three chldren,Glen Howard, Mary and Roy. Mary changed her name to Marie, married my grandfather, Benjamin Sydney Mills, from Winona. My mother was their only child and "Bud" died in Rochester from a brain tumor when he was only 33 years old. My earlier post incorrectly listed John instead of James.

Samuel McLaughlin is the son of George McLaughlin. I photographed his gravestone last week in Plainview, MN. His son, John Howard McLaughlin, is my great-grandfather. I have only recently discovered that they came from Londonderry. I have also visited the cemetery in OH where John Ross, the father of Mary Ann, is buried.

McLaughlins of Braxton County

In researching the McLaughlins, I have created for myself more questions than answers it seems. I am researching Warwick Mclaughlin (1833) married to Martha Ann Woods (1831) then Ella J (1867) Her last name is the first of many questions I have. Some have linked Warwick to William (b.1830) son of Daniel Jonathan b.1808. But some listings have this William as married to Nancy Booth and I don't see the connection except they are close in age and they lived in the same counties. Not to mention the county lines continually changed which confuses things further.

Here is what I do know:
According to the Descendents of Warwick McLaughlin by Don Norman, he was born in 1833 in Nicholas County. Does not list parents. So who's his daddy?

Warwick McGlothlin is listed in the 1850 (District 29, Kanawha) census under Catherine McGlothlin (1802 or 1803). Some have speculated this is Catherine Honaker, w/o Daniel Jonathan. But in this census, Daniel and Catherine are living about 3 houses down from the Catherine that Warwick is listed under. (Is Daniel her brother?) Also listed here is a Catherine (abt 1810) but married to Davis Larkin.

Included in 1850 census with Warwick are:

Matthew (Abt 1831) (I was able to trace this line, he married Margaret Rogers who's family was neighbors with Warwick in 1860 census)
William (Abt 1841) Unable to track
David (Abt 1846) Unable to track

Anyone know which William and David these are?

This coincides with the 1840 Nicholas co. census listing Catherine as the head with 2 males b/w ages of 5-10 matching Matthew and Warwick.

Also living in 1840 Nicholas Co is Addison McLaughlin. Any relation?? Also living close by is James McLaughlin (b.1812) m. to Susan Nottingham and Melvina Hill. They are buried in cemeteries close to Warwick's (Pleasant Hill, Wallback, WV) Any relation?? And I have to wonder if there isn't some relation to Jacob Warwick McLaughlin (b.1810)

The Don Norman family files for McLaughlin start with:

James Harvey McGlothlin b. 1835 (Son of Daniel Jonathan)

Addison McLaughlin b abt 1808 m. Sarah J. Landcraft in Braxton Co.Died 13 Mar 1872 in Webster co. Death record lists mother as elizabeth father as Denison (You have to actually look at the record, listed as Dennis on other sources)

Jacob Warwick McLaughlin b.abt 1810 (one source states his grandfather was from Ireland, some say Squire Hugh from Pocahontas Co. I have not done much research here)

James McLaughlin b. about 1812 in Pocahontas County (m. to Susan B. Nottingham) married in Nicholas county

Warwick McLaughlin b.1833 born in Nicholas
There has got to be some relation to all

In a 1860 census of Roane Co (which is where Warwick shows up from 1860 on) there is a Catherine (abt 1815) with a Matthew (abt 1834) & William (abt 1844) but with a John McLaughlin as the head (abt 1833). It is really too much speculation to determine if this is the same Catherine because the age is way off. The Matthew and William ages are close but again, speculative. If anyone knows which family this is, please let me know.

Sorry for all the questions, but if anyone has any information on any of the families/census mentioned, please let me know. I am willing to share what info I have found on this line and other McLaughlin lines I have researched trying to find my answers.
