am having a lot of trouble with this family and would like to hear form anyone else researchiing the same line!

In 1841 John ( a coal miner) and Margaret were living in Seaton Delaval, Earsdon, NBL with their children Isabella, George, Eleanor and Adam.

in 1851 the family had moved to Netherton where the information given says that John b abt 1814 in Cornhill, Margaret b abt 1815 Doddington, George b abt 1837 Egglingham, Ellin b abt 1838 Whittle, Adam b 1840 Cramlington, William b abt 1846 Cowpen, Margaret b abt 1847 Bedlington, Mary Ann b 1848 Bedlington and John b 1850 Bedlington.

By 1861 they were in Bedlington where it would appear that John and Margaret senior were born in Newcastle(!) and all the children (now added to by James 1853) were born in Bedlington

The family disappears as a unit completely by 1871 - though there are possible sightings for Adam, John jnr and George. Mary Ann has married (in South Shields in 1865 at the United Presbyterian Church) and is in London.
The parents are never spotted again. Although a John MCLAIN dies at Cramlington Colliery in 1869 so that is a possible reason for his absence.

From Mary Ann's birth certificate her mother's name was GRAY. In 1873, Mary Ann (Mrs John OATES) is now back up north and gives birth to her first child in Croften, Cowpen despite probably being resident in South Shields (where
all her other children bar 1 other were born).

Fiona
Maclean relatives.

Does anybody know of a Don Maclean, from Canada, who was in the Canadian signals corps (so I am informed) during WWII? A bit vague but that is all I know unless he was Hugh Maclean's son. I would desperatly like to hear - in regard to anything that can be added to my family tree - from descendants of Howard Maclean (b.Bruce Town, Canada 1892), Florence Maclean (who married, I believe, William MacCullum) and Vera Maclean who married Jack Gray. If there are any other Canadian relatives who recognise anything I am still interested in hearing from you. Please contact me at neil.mclean5@googlemail.com

DONALD McLEAN , Cape Breton NS, 1833-1920

DONALD MCLEAN (1833-1920)married first, ANNIE MACKENZIE (not 100% sure of her name)and they had issue....

1. Annie married a Cameron of Margaree
2. Mary?? married George MacKinnon, North Sydney
3. ??? married MacKinnon, Pictou
4. Allan b 15may1887 (River Denys??) d 29march1939, married Catherine Anne MacDonald b 1892 d 1968

DONALD MCLEAN(1833-1920) then married ANNA JESSOME (1863-1920)and they had issue....
1. Mary Susan b 1890 married Allan Roach
2. Ada b 22feb1893 married Mr Scannell
3. Willena b 1897 d 1927
4. Marcella 1903 - 1994 married Daniel J O'Handley
5. Francis (1894 - 26oct1956) married Annie Jones
6. Isabel married a MacInnes
7. Louise b 24jan1906 married Mr Heinonen
8. Ethel 20nov1909 - 22nov1997 married Philip MacKinnon 07jan1899 -
30jun1974

Most of this information i believe to be accurate, however i wouldn't argue
anyone who was willing to dispute it either :-) --i do know that Donald McLean and Anna Jessome are buried together in St Mary's/Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Section 2, Shore Road in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, their daughter Willena (aka Lena) is buried with them as well. I believe Allan McLean and his wife to be buried in StAnthony Daniel cemetary in Cape Breton--they are not buried together, and Allan's appears to be a military burial.

One further note, the dates I have for Donald are acurrate--he appears to be a slow starter, but once he got going--he did go forth and multiply!!!!

please email if you are connected or can send me in another direction
regards--cindy
cmclean@bconnex.net
I am not sure.
All I know about this guy is that he is African American with freckles and if I remember right reddish hair. I am looking for him for my brother who maybe his son.

Any information about the above individual needed. 1901 Canada census indicates father as Alexander. Mother is listed as Margaret, however, this cannot be correct due to age of mother in census. I think Ernest's father was known as Capt. McLean and was a mariner, whether it was operating a Ferry Service on the Miramichi or otherwise. I am hoping to find birth records for Ernest and to find information about who his mother was and any information about her side of family.

I've hit a brickwall...My grandmother was Hughina McMillan McLean born in 1870 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her birth registration lists her as illegitimate and parents are Margaret Carrick (domestic servant) and James McLean (hairdresser). Both parents signed the registration. Unfortunately I haven't been able to go any further back on this line. All of the "margaret's" born in the family since have been named "Margaret Carrick McLean ..." but nobody has any information about either James or Margaret.

Any help would be appreciated

Denise Fitz-Gibbon Callander

HI Everyone;

My name is Lisa L. DeLozier (McLean as maiden last name), I notice that no one else has been working on this McLean lately on this post message...I am going to ask one more time to Help me with this. This family is crazy enough to hard to find!

1) my dad, Robert D. McLean. He born 06-07-1939, Bremerton, Washington, USA. He married to my mom Sharon L. Ranniger 08-09-1939, Spokane, Washington, USA.

2) My grandpa, Charles A. McLean (A - Arthur), I found his census on 1930, 1920, thats when I found them. but it does not say Charles on it, It saids Arthur C. McLean, thats when It happens, After He is out of that age and He must have change to Charles A. McLean, He born feb 16th, 191912, Everett, Washington, USA., He married to Geneivene Alice McLean, we called her Alice/allie., she born Nov 5th, 1917, Bremerton, Washington, USA. I have his death certificate and it said his father name is Archie. so I am confused with everything at that moments.

3) Arthur C. McLean (father of Charles), born 1873, Canada either in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, Married to my great grandma Lauretta Decker in Everett, Washington, USA, He immigrated in 1907 from Canada to USA. They got divorced in around end of 1920's year... Arthur moved to Lake Chelan and had own business called McLean's Plumbing or Different's name but still under Plumbing and I am trying to find 1930 Phone book in Lake Chelan, Washington, USA. and I am trying to find the place where he died there.

This is when My dad met him when he was 2 years old and again at his high school age (1950's). This is where I am loosing to find them. but funny thing is I found his grandfather Archibald McLean.

4) Archibald McLean born 1847 in Canada again, either where??? not sure, was moved to USA and immigrated 1863, and then must have had my great grandfather Arthur or Archie, born in Canada? seems to be move in and out of Canada? during that time with his first wife???, Don't know about his first wife name is. then I found Archibald on the census of 1900, 1910, 1920. so It show that He was married to Francis McLean not long there on 1900, they said they were married 3 years.. so means he must have married several time or just 2. and it show the immigration year 1863 of Archibald and his wife 1884. so I begin to wonder what happen in those years! Archibald's parent born Scotland and moved to Canada not sure what year! Thanks.

Can anybody help me? I am having a trouble finding them and does not help me at all. I am so frustrating with this and PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!

Martha died in 1914 and is buried in Walnut Grove. At one time they may have lived in Joplin, Missouri as two of the children were born there. If anyone has any info, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Hugh McLean, Hugh MacLean, Agnes Derby

Have hit a proverbial brick wall. Hugh McLean, b. 1810 in Scotland, died in 1871 (buried Hampden cemetery Lot 21 Con 18 - lived in Normanby at the time in Ontario, Canada). He married Agnes Derby (b. 1816, Scotland, died 1882, buried same place) on 12 Dec 1854 or 1855. From at least 1855, they lived in Ontario, Canada (Grey County, where they owned land)although quite possibly they were in Canada before that).

I cannot find Hugh's parents - he is my brick wall. Records say Agnes came from Dumfries, Scotland. Her parents immigrated in 1854 from Scotland to Ontario, Canada, and supposedly the kids were already in Canada by the time the parents came from Scotland (though by how long I don't know). Although no more than intuition, this suggests that she and Hugh could have married in Scotland before coming to Ontario.

Hugh and Agnes had three sons while in Ontario, Alexander (b. 1856), Andrew (b. 1858) and Hugh (b. 1863)

Can anyone help me find Hugh's parents/place of birth?

Duncan McLean, Jr. and Duncan Mclean, Sr. of Dontium, Kilcraigie, farmer and smith, appear to be Father and Grandfather of the McLean sisters including Jean, Ann, and also Henrietta, b. 6 July 1837, m. Allan MacDonald, b. 12 March 1839. Documentary evidence for the foregoing statement is desirable. Have the parents of Duncan McLean, Sr. and his wife been determined? Evidence? Ann's descendant Diane LaCavera of Campbellford, ON, Canada, and Jean's descendant Cameron Ralph Stewart of New Ulm, Mn, USA, have finally discovered each other via the Perthshire Message Board.
McLeans (MacLeans) of Skye, Scotland

Murdo MacLean married Helen Alice Cooper on September 4, 1901 in Dunbarton, New Kilpatrick. Helen was my Great Grandmother's, Annie Cooper Savage, sister.

I am trying to get the correct info on Murdo.

Murdo and his brother Charles were born to a Catherine (Kate) MacLean in Strath, Skye. Both were listed as illegitimate, so no fathers name.

Murdo was born December 22, 1874
Charles same date but in 1879

On the 1881 census:

Dwelling: Strolamus
Census Place: Strath, Inverness, Scotland
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
Kate MC LEAN U 32 F Strath, Inverness, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Dressmaker
Murdo (probably short for Murdoch) GRANT 6 M Strath, Inverness, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Scholar
Charles GRANT 1 M Strath, Inverness, Scotland
Rel: Son
Agnes MC LEAN 15 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Rel: Boarder
Occ: Dom Servt

This says Kate was unmarried but why would Murdo and Charles have the last name of "Grant"? By the 1891 census the boys are now MacLean. On the 1901 census she is listed as "widow of Gas Labourer".

If anyone else needs MacLean info on this family:

Catherine's parents were Duncan and Mary McPherson MacLean.

Duncan born June 15, 1810 in Gleneig, Skye, Inverness. Only have his father's name as Angus.

They married January 29, 1839.

Children:

John...born Jan 7, 1840, Strath
Flora...born April 12, 1842, Strath
Margaret...born March 3, 1847
Twins?
Ann...born May 18, 1849, Strath (seems she died before 1851 census)
Ewen..born May 18, 1849, Strath
Catherine...born April 30, 1851
Neil...born about 1875

1851 Census:
Duncan and Mary were in Strath, he was a shepherd
address is Kilbride
1861 Census:
Family is in Greenock West, Renfrewshire, and he is a Balemakers Labourers.
Wilson Land Union Court for address?
1871 Census:
The family is in Greenock Middle, Renfrewshire
4 Watt Place
Duncan is a labourer
1881 Census:
Greenock Middle, Renfrewshire
he is a Labourer Sugar Porters Un E (?)
address is 20 Hamilton St

By 1881 Census, Catherine (Kate) is back on Skye with her two young sons, Murdo 6 and Charles 1 and an Agnes who must be some type of relative.

1891 Census:
Catherine and boys are now in Maryhill, Barony, Lanarkshire on 25 Argyle St
She is a Waskerwoman...think it should be washerwoman

1901 Census:
Catherine and boys are in same area but live at 32 Argyle St. Here she says she is a widow of a Gas Labourer?

Charles McLean from Argyl Scotland to Dallhousie Ontario

Charles McLean b. abt 1789 (per death records) and Catherine McDougal (McLucash ?)b. abt 1791 emigrated aboard the David of London in 1821 with son Archibald b 1819. The only other evidence I have of their birthplace is in the cemetery info which says many of the original burials in Highland Line were folks originally from Argylshire. In trying to reach further back, I do find a Charles McLean marriage to a Catherine McLucash in Kilninian Argyll in 1815 on familysearch. This same couple has an Archibald, but also 3 other children. Only Archibald makes the trip with them. Does anyone have any advice on where I might try to find some verification on the probable deaths of the other siblings... Any other advice will also be greatly appreciated.

McLAINs all spellings 1700s in Carolinas, 1800s TN,IL,TN & KY, then AR

I have McLAINs (all spellings) in Arkansas. My line was in the Carolinas, very possibly near Charleston and along the NC / SC border area in 1700s. I think our "direct line" might have left late 1700s / early 1800s and gone to East TN area ...maybe Warren and White counties. Really interested to hear from people with a line in those counties.

My line was in Gallatin County Ilinois in 1817 (land records) ..likely in KY but not pinned down yet...and 1820-1823 were in Henry Co TN and settled in Weakley Co TN. This line likely was in VA in late 1600s prior to going to the Carolinas. At the moment, we are trying to pin down our line from about 1800 to 1817. Some of the repeated given names: Allen, James, John, William, Joseph, Charles, Ruth, David, Christina. Also Newbern / Nuborn and Tobe (pronounced Tobie as well as Tob rhymes with toe) on part of the line that went to Logan Co AR and then to OK.

Known children of Charles & Elizabeth are: John, Susan Elizabeth, Charles, Christiana, James, Rebecca, Ruth, and William. Probably others. Children born maybe in IL, maybe KY(big question here) and then TN from about 1808 to 1825.

Charles b about 1784 NC /SC and wife Elizabeth b NC are my gggg grandparents. This is our most distant known ancestor we have been able to positively identify. Several lines of cousins have now been identified thanks to paper trail and research ...and DNA testing on the line has confirmed our relationships. (Also had a surprise exact DNA match with a line of MacLEANs / McLEANs that were in Prince Edward Island Canada and then Massachusetts in 1800s. Hard to say, but root ancestor ties may be back in Scotland.)

As to my line that came out of the Carolinas .....My ggg grandfather Charles (son of above) b about 1808 IL we think and wife Perlina A. Unknown were probably married in Weakley Co TN area about 1828-29. About 1849 they brought 4 grown children with them to Lawrence County AR and lived in and near Walnut Ridge. Children were: Christina (Christiana /Cristeny); David W.; John Henry; Squire) ..and a son Wm. California was born 1853 Lawrence Co AR. Marriages were to James SMITH, Susan E. MULLEN/ MULLINS, Sarah Catherine AGEE, and several marriages for Wm. Cal ...Ellen FRY, maybe Martha FRY, and a last marriage to Nancy Sapronia MEAD.

My ggg grandfather's wife Perlina died 1860 Lawrence Co AR and he remarried there 1866 to Sarah HARMON FRY RILEY ...found marriage record for Sarah RILEY to Charles in 1866 (she was in MO earlier with spouse John FRY and then as a widow, at some point married a RILEY) and she is named in Charles McLAIN's loose probate records when he died 1869 Lawrence Co AR. 1870 census Sarah McLAIN is found head of household with her FRY children with her in Lawrence Co AR.

My ggg grandfather Charles' son David W. McLAIN b about 1833 TN died young in Lawrence Co AR... not long after he married Susan E. MULLENS in 1855 and they had a daughter Mary A. McLAIN b about 1856-58 I think as she is named in the Loose Probate Records also. Susan remarried Willian H. FLETCHER ...and were in a McCALL household 1870 census in Lawrence Co AR. I've tracked Wm. H. FLETCHER and Susan across Arkansas...Johnson, Yell and Logan counties .. to 1910 then I loose them after Logan County in 1910: FLETCHER children were ....John W. b 1867 AR, Sylvester John b July 1867 (maybe same child), Robert E. b 1869 and Emma b 1871.

Never have found David McLAINs and Susan's daughter Mary A b about 1856-58 in Lawrence Co AR.

A cousin's line that came over from Weakley Co TN was in Independence County AR ..and another cousin's line was in Logan Co AR. Some other cousin's lines went later on to the Northwest ...Wyoming and Utah areas, as well as California. These we've been able to identify. Probably others on the line in other counties. And I think it is possible that our line may have had land grants / land in AR prior to my finding my direct line there on the 1850 census in Strawberry twp, Lawrence Co, AR.

My direct line:

*Charles and Elizabeth b 1780s in the Carolinas
*Charles b circa 1808 IL? & wife Perlina A. b 1811 TN
*John Henry b 1835-37 Weakley Co TN & wife Sarah Catherine AGEE b 1842 TN
*William David b 1859 Lawrence Co AR & 1st wife Cordelia MOSIER
b Loogootee, Daviess Co IN, & 2nd wife Clara COOPER b 1878 Monroe Co AR
*Audrey McLAIN b 1900 Newport, Jackson Co AR & husband
Robert E. WASHBURN b 1897 St. Louis MO
*My mother b 1920 Newport, Jackson Co AR

Interested in hearing from others regarding their lines that could have been part of mine ...and if anybody is participating in DNA testing. Our line is using a popular site called FamilyTreeDNA.

John McLean (McLane) b. Mar-1863, "Can/Eng"

Folks,

This is a tough one for me, as I'm working on a friend's ancestry. Her grandmother was born Grace Marion McLean on 16-Sep-1900 in Augusta, Maine, USA. Her birth parents were listed as John McLean/McLean and Mary Best. The ONLY couple found in 1900 US Census for that area that fits their description is a John "McLane" b. Mar-1863, Can/Eng and his wife, Mary, b. May-1870, same. They had only arrived in the US in 1900 and had married in 1895. ANYONE who has any information on this John, it would be greatly appreciated. Apparently, for whatever reasons, shortly after Grace was born, Mary fled, and shortly after Mary left, it seems John left, as well (perhaps in search of Mary?). Grace was later adopted by the Tremblay family of Augusta, and was later told of her birth name, which has led us THIS far. Again, any help in determining which John McLean her father might have been would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers,

Jared

I am looking for information about the parents of Huey Franklin McLean of the Globe community in Caldwell Co. North Carolina. His birthdate was either Feb 14 1859 or 1862. He died in 1958 in Caldwell Co. He had a first marriage (supposedly to an unknown Pitts) but my ancestors are through his second with, Susan Elvira Ray born in 1870. I find him on the 1870 census listed as living iwth an Elijah and Jane Kerby in the Patterson Township as a 5 year old boy. In later census, he is listed as Frank McLean. His children consist of Mary Jane, Lily Macie, Maudie Verlee, Emmer Belle, Johnsie, James Monroe, Franklin Dolphus (in one account this is Adophus), Jesse Lee, Charles Edward, John Anderson, Oscar and a Sadie Pitts is listed as a daughter also.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nancy,
I am trying to find out about some McLeans in Fl. My ancester is Mary Ann McLean, who married William O Kendrick in Georgia. She was born in Florida sometime in the early 1800's, but I'm not sure where. And she is the only one I know of. Does this sound familiar?? I'm sorry for the lack of information. You can email me direct and I might be able to give you more specifics. LNDARD@aol.com. Thank You,

April Densmore
Ft Worth, TX

James Norman McLean

I am searching for any information about a James "Jim" Norman McLean who I know very little about but I have learned that he apparently was the biological father of my mother and her sister.

He apparently was from 'somewhere' in Nova Scotia and was married and had children but in the years from at least 1927 to 1930 he boarded at my grandparents' home in Newcastle (now Miramichi), New Brunswick.

I do not know when he was born but my grandmother was born in 1886 and I am thinking he may have been in a similar age group.

As well, I do not know when he died but he apparently was killed by being hit by a car.

This is the extent of my knowledge of this man, So far, I have been unable to find any information on any of the genealogical sites I have searched so if anyone has any information on James Norman McLean I would appreciate getting any kind of news.

Many thanks.

family roots!

Hello fellow Ancestors!
Our `branch of the tree' takes us back to Ireland in @1830's. One family - all 7 children came to Canada over span of @15 years and settled in south central ONTARIO
If I have dicovered anything about our clan it is that we know how to procreate!! and spread out! We (localized Ontario group) have been to Ireland to `track' further back but many of the old records have been `lost' mostly due to fire. I know there are a number of variations of "McLean" and that `they' originated @ 200 or so years earlier from Scotland. Our specific branch though we have temporarily `stalled' due to lost trails. Any assistance to `get us back on track' would be appreciated!? and reciprocated with specifics of our `branch'!
Searchingly yours, Family!
Greg McLean
I have 4 sons of my own - I did my part! LOL
