1815 is as far as I can go. Their first born was born in 1815. The last was born in 1828-so I know they lived in Lancaster area for a few years. They belonged to the Presbyterian church. The Father is James[1787] and mother Elizabeth[1786][very common]
All records say they were born in Ireland. James was a farmer.
Since I think they went by the naming pattern-the James's parents would be: Joseph and Sarah McMahon. Elizabeth's parents: James [H?]& Margaret Unknown
I had hoped they would be some Church records of them.

Help!!! James McMahon b. ca. 1770, Ireland, came to America...

I'm having a difficult time taking my McMann/McMahon line
back past my ggggGF, James McMahon... He was born in Ireland
in about 1770... came to America by 1790...married a Susannah Lake...had 2 sons, John & William... ends up in
VA... and appears to have died young, leaving his wife a widow to raise their sons...she quickly marries a fellow by the last name of Winkleblack... there are no good records to
trace... I was following up some other leads, and came across a James McMahon in KY in the 1850 census, who was born in Ireland, in 1770...Hmmm??? He was listed as married
to a "Jane" who was 15 yrs. younger than him, with a son
James, b.1800. My James drops off the radar screen just
prior to 1800... His sons by Susannah Lake were born prior
to 1800... My question is~ maybe he didn't die at all, but just had wanderin' eyes & feet, etc... His son James was listed as having been born in Mass. I also found another
(or poss. the same...) James McMahon who married at Polly
Frame in 1806, in Augusta Co. VA... There were scoundrels
back then just like there are now... If anyone has any info, please contact me at bobwickline@yahoo.com
Thank You!

I am looking for the parents of Ansley/Ainsley McMahon who migrated to or was born in North Carolina. His obit. says he died in 1875 at about age 80. He had a son William named in his will.
I am also interested in Daniel McMahon, Revolutionary War soldier who named in his will a William Ambrose, a son. Will dated about 1838. Elaine
It was said by family that they were Scots-Irish. Maybe N.Ireland even county Clare.

I have a plat of the one remaining cemetery that a cousin drew up in his later years.Altho I live now in Ky., I visit the cemetery as often as possible. Where did your parents and grandparents live? What were their names. Could you furnish me with their date of birth and death? I will try to see if their names appear on this difficult to read sketch. E.

I am very interested in the McMahon/Gilmore connection in AL? I have one in Mississippi. My grandfather's sister (she a McMahon) and his name was Ed Gilmore. Both of these family's moved through AL in the mid 1800's. Ed Gilmore was born in AL and I think most of his family actually lived and died there and for some reason Ed moved into MS. My ggg grandfather was David McMahon born in SC 1814 and he moved into MS around 1840. Several of his children were born in AL. He was married in Perry County AL in 1837. I can not find his parents/brothers/sister's/cousins or any connection to him. I have alot of info on Ed Gilmore and his family in AL. Yet I know there were "cousins" living in the Delta of MS at least by 1860's. I can not figure them out either. Sometimes I think that David is his middle name vs his first name. But I sure would like to discuss this possible connection. Betty

Janice, thanks for sending me the picture of Annie Laura McMahon Gilmore. I was amazed, for she looks EXACTLY like my father's sister, Lavadier. Annie Gilmore is my first cousin, three times removed. And she closely favors my sister, Janet. I guess genetics is a strong influence. I have a close friend who is a Wells, from Cleveland, Texas. I always thought that the Wells Cemetery was a small family cemetery. Now that I see several McMahon descendents are buried there I must go to Cleveland to determine what the connection is. Again, thanks for the information. Steve McMahon

All I know about a McMahon Cemetery is what I have read in my research and what I have read gives very little info. on the specific location.Contact the local genealogical society in Franklin. Maybe they can give you more info on the location or you can contact "elanyw" that has posted on my thread. Good luck...Steve

Rictor,

You may be able to get a copy of his birth certificate from the General Records Office for Northern Ireland, if you have his date of birth.
I have already passed you information about his marriage to Elizabeth Moneypenny. If you get a copy of that marriage certificate it will have his father's name and address at the time of the marriage. Since people didn't move around much in rural ireland at that time you could contact a researcher to fine the certificate.

The problem in Ireland is records. Prior to the partition of Ireland into the Free State (later the Republic of Ireland) the majority of records were held in the Archives in Dublin. During the 1916 many of the records were destroyed and that screws-up amateur researchers like you and me.

Bob Moneypenny

Mary McMahon mrd Patrick Lynch 1839 or before in Ireland. Milltown Malbay VERY possible. Not sure if they ever left Ireland.

Their daughter Ann Lynch(b. either 1837 or 1839) married John Leyden (b. Dec. 1832) apprx. 1860 and most of their children (8 found so far) were born in Milltown Malbay. The last 3: John F. Leyden, Cornelius Joseph Leyden, and Anna Leyden (sometimes spelled Laden and sometimes even Leydan) were born on Kelley's Island, Ohio and later most settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
I am not sure if Mary McMahon came to US with them or not around 1870 or so. No dates for Mary McMahon and Patrick have been found.
Any info on a possible link with this Mary McMahon would be great.
