I have traced a lot of my ancetors in Ireland. There is a branch that went to the US in the 1800's. I have some contacts in Tennessee. I can not find who actually went to the Us and started the branch.

I know that the spelling chnages through time.

I have reached a brick wall on my McMillen line. My GGFather James Edward McMillen b c1810 NYS is my earliest known McMillen ancestor.

After reading Ancestry Daily News issues dtd 3 Jun and 8 Jul 03 I have concluded that DNA testing and establishing a McMillan, McMillen, McMullen, etc. project might be an answer to not only my specific brick wall, but that of many others who share our Surname.

If you are interested in such a project please read the Ancestry Daily issues indicated above for details then contact me, so I can start the wheels turning (or maybe I should say tearing down the bricks).

I'm looking for the family of a Grace McMillen, born about 1919 in Ohio to Charles Laird McMillen and Ethel Delores Barcus.

In an obit for Grace's brother Robert, it mentioned a married name of Mauro for Grace. I looked up a Social Security death record and found there was a Grace Mauro born in Ohio on 28 Jul 1918 and died in San Diego, CA 19 May 1999.

Grace's sister Mary Louise was my grandmother. Apparently the family sort of lost touch. I know both parents died early (Mary Louise was about 10 when her mother died and 13 when her father died).

And help would be appreciated.

He was born about 1845, wounded in the Civil War, and died between 1890 and 1900 probably in Rush Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Blickensderfer. I have a letter written to my mother-in-law about McMillen family history. The writer is telling the history without dates. The best we can figure out from the narrative is the 3 brothers came to Bourbon Co. Kentucky and built a fort. They were William, Samuel, and James. James was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses and in 1791 a member of the Virginia General Assembly. William had 2 sons and wife unknown - moved them all to Indiana. Sons were Thomas b: 25 Dec 1810, William C. McMillen. She gives a lot of more current data, but we can't tie who belongs to who from the letter. Does this ring a bell with anyone?? Any help appreciated.

I have traced the "McMellen" spelling to William Wesley McMellen, b: 2/6/1865, d: 6/3/1930, son of David Baskim McMilin, b: 8/13/1836, d: 3/12/1890, and Permelia Jane McMelen b: 3/1/1843, d: 4/10/1925.

David and Jane came from different McMillen families with different spellings and evidently decided on the new spelling of "McMellen" for their children.

David's parents were Aaron McMillen, b: 1804 and Sarah Christine Zumwalt, b: abt 1807. Jane's parents were Michael McMelen, b: abt 1820, d: 11/22/1858, and Elizabeth Jane Powell, b: 7/10/1819, d: 3/26/1882, Grandparents: John McMelen, b: abt 1802, and Mary Green, b: abt 1804.

I am seeking more info on Aaron or John and would also enjoy hearing from Zumwalt, Powell and Green relatives. :})

Looking for information on Ananias McMillan born Ohio 1851 died Allen County Indiana 1940 married Nancy Boswell, Allen Co. IN in May 1882, witnessed by Jacob McMillan. Children John or Johon, Wilford or Wilfard, Etta and Ethel (twins) 1890. Ethel married Harry Peed, Wells IN 1914. Etta married a Degalar or Degalan, lived in Vigo, IN. It appears from the census that Ananias worked in the oil fields in Ohio. Before marrying it looks as though he was in the Army, my Grandfather Harry told stories about his father-in-law fighting the Indians. I have an file on McMillens and the Gilliland families. A Book by Alonzo b. McMillen from Albuquerque, NM dated March 15, 1922. I typed out some so if you want to send me an email I can try to attach the file. I tried to copy here but it would not take. The short of it ...Rev. James came to US fro Ireland 1735, had son William who m. Miss McKnight..children: James W., William, Jane, Nancy, and a girl who died age 20.

James came to Oh with father, William.

I am looking for information on McMillens in Kentucky. My grandfather's name is David Lee McMillen, his father was Ollie Clay McMillen (married to Lela S. Grow), and believe his fathers name was Ollie F. McMillen (married to Florence Stull).
I was told that our line comes from three brothers who were apparently run out of Scotland, around the 1600-1700's, for being cattle thieves. I was also told that they decided to change the spelling of the name. I am not sure what the original spelling was, but they are McMillian, McMillan, and McMillen. Marriage license shows his name as James McMillon but 1870 census for Morgan County, enumerated in June shows John and Caroline McMillen , he age 37 and born in Ohio. Caroline was 24 which consistent with her date of birth from family records.
Can;t find anything else on this family until probate records for Caroline's mother indicates children of Edward, Joe and Sarah.
I am researching the Buckley family but in hopes this John or James connects with someone researching a McMillen family.

DRAGGED BY A STREET CAR.

William McMILLEN, 37 years old, 3414 Adams Street,
on the Kansas side, was slightly injured attempting to
board a south bound Argentine car in motion at Thirteenth
and Main streets at 4:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
McMILLEN was dragged several yards hanging to the
rods at the side of the car. Just as the air brakes brought
the car to a stop, McMILLEN's hold loosened and he
dropped with his head across one of the rails, only a few
inches in front of the wheel. He was taken to the General
Hospital, suffering from half a dozen scalp wounds and
bruises.

I received Giles pension application and it revieled that he was married to a Maria and had two children Stephen born 1857 and Ida born 1858. They divorced in abt 1867 and he remarried in 1870 to Sarah Bacon. She married as Sarah Shear in her app in 1905 and she testified that she was married to Giles for abt 38 years and that her 1st husband had died abt 15 years before that.I found a Reuben Shear in the 1860 Corning NY with Sarah with two Betts children Daniel born 1823 and William born 1825.There was also a boatman named Leander Stevison with them.Sarah and the Betts children were born Oneida co and Reuben was born Ulster co.
Stephen and Ida are found living in 1870 with a Mariah Brown and what appears to be all railroad employees. Anyone recognize any of these folks as theirs? Would like to unravel this one. Thanks.

I have a Sarah (Sally) Bacon born 1823 New York married Giles(Jiles) McMillen in 1870.He appears to be born in Pennsylvania in 1823 and his parents are either from PA of Scotland, depending on which census you read. It appears to be a second marriage for both. They lived in or around Elmira New York. I find them in Chemung co. in 1880 ,no children, and in 1900 Chemung co, she is listed to have had six children ,of whom two were surviving at that date. I have not had any luck finding them in any other census year.She is the daughter of Calvin Bacon ,born Vermont 1780's or 1790's.Does any of this ring a bell for anyone? I have sent for Gile's widow's pension application in hopes that it will disclose something new. Thanks.

I am looking for info on the parents of Ross G McMillen.( b. 1841) He either lived in washington county or greene county pa in the 1800's. His wife was Catherine Hamilton McMillen who he married in 1861. Ross G son was Warren G & his son was Warren H of pittsburgh. Any info on this line of McMillens would be great. Any spelling of McMillen could be possible.

I am looking for information on the parents of Lewis M. McMillon (McMillen/McMellon)who was born btw 1843-1851 in TX. His father was from IL.
My Lewis married Mary Matilda Rohus in Limestone Co., TX in 1876. He lived in Hunt and Van Zandt Co., TX after he married and he died in 1899. I think he may be connected to Comfort Allen, Lewis, William, or Hugh McMillen from IL. but have no proof.

Hello, I'm on a search for a male McMillin (or McMillan, McMillen) who according to the 1880 Alabama census was born in Tennessee. He was married to a woman named Sarah J. It is my guess that Sarah's maiden name was O'neal (or O'Neill). One of Sarah's daughters, Eldridge Josephine McMillin was a cousin to Artemissie G. O'neill who was married to William Smilie. This McMillin along with Sarah J. had 7 children; Lenard H. (b. 1865), Eldridge Josephine (b. 1859), Frank M. (b. 1858), plus 1 more boy and two more girls I believe. The 1880 Alabama Census has Sarah J. as a widow at this time so Mr. McMillin died between 1865 and 1880 in Alabama, it is my guess he was born in the 1820's or 1830's. The 1880 Census was in Union Church, Bullock County. But, family later moved to Montgomery County. The McMillin family in Alabama was intertwined with the O'Neal, Smilie, Sellers, Rhodes, and Frizzell families. Eldridge Josephine McMillin married William Benjamin Rhodes. Ok, I know this is a long shot but, let me know if you've got anything. Cheers!

I am trying to find out for certain that Minnie McMillen's father was Hugh Cameron Wheeler. IF so i have the family traced way back. I was always told that Minnie was his daughter but I cant confirm it yet. I do not know where she was born, but she died in strafford Missouri. Strafford is part in Greene county and part in Webster County Missouri. I think they lived in teh greene county part but they lived close to the line. I do know they they lived in south dakota for awhile on the redbud indian reservation. I have no indication that either John Wheeler or minnie McMillen wheeler might have been native american

Mahala Kitts m. Robert McMillen 1859 in Grainger. Am thinking that Sarah Dennis might be the mother of Rachel Dennis who m. Thomas McMillen (thought to be the father of Robert) 1812 in Grainger. Any help appreciated.

Great Grandfather was John McMillan/McMillen b about 1870...Parents are Hugh and Margret and he has two older brothers...one of which I know is Archie (Archibald)...the other may be Danzel if the 1881 census is right(Ontario)...

I do have a photo of Hugh and Margret...Margret died in 1928 I believe in her 90's....
We spell the name McMillan in my family...though some do go by MacMillan...and in the 81 census it is spelled McMillen...

If anyone has anymore info on Archie or Danzel or Hugh and Margret please notify me...

Rumours are is that Hugh and Margret are first cousins...and that the 3 brothers left Ontario to head out west...at the time they were in there late 30's , early 40's and single.

John eventually married Mary Kusch who with her son Hilary was widowed by Charles Irwin. They had 6 children Hugh, Roy, Steve, Audry, Vivian and Doug, whom have all passed away now...

Champlain — John W. McMillen, 61, of Champlain, passed away Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

He was born in Montpelier, Vt., on March 8, 1942, the son of Ernest McMillen and Ruby Willey of Vermont.

John loved working in his woodshop and outside in his yard. He valued his family and friends.

His wife Maureen survives John. They were married for 23 beautiful years. He has four children: Jennie McMillan, Sandy Gallion with son-in-law Tom Gallion, who live in Florida. His son Michael McMillan lives in Anderson, S.C. His daughter Megan McMillan attends college at Potsdam. He has two grandchildren, Zachary and Taylor Gallion of Florida, who adored their grandfather.

He also has several brothers and sisters: brothers Wendell McMillan of White River Junction, Vt., Francis McMillan of Greenfield, Mass., Robert McMillan of Beekmantown, Patsyann Lucca of San Jose, Calif., Steven McMillan of Champlain, N.Y., Patrick McMillan of Bowlhead, Ariz.; and two sisters, Debra Deyo of Altona, N.Y., and Cecile Smail of Gill, Mass. He also has several nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to American Cancer Society.
