A Compilation of the Original Lists of Protestant Immigrants to S.C. 1763-1773
pages 81-82
by Janie Revill

Council Journal 33, pages 229-234
Meeting of 1 Sept. 1767
The following petitions for Warrants of Survey on the Bounty were presented and read, viz:
Robert McMINN, 100 acres

At the end of the list of names and acreages was this:
At or near the Long Canes on Savannah River.

The book entitled "South Carolina Immigrants 1760-1770"
by Jack M. Jones & Mary B. Warren gives the same list as above in the Revill book.

And in the "South Carolina Royal Grants, Vol. 2, Books 10-17"
by Brent Holcomb
17, 194: Bounty.
Robert McMINA, 100 acres on north side Broad River adj. Zecheriah Bell, land surveyed by 'north rites.' Thomas Fletchall, 13 May 1768. Plat certified 30 Jan. 1768.

I am quite certain that if one were to read the original that this name is McMinn. Furthermore, the McMina name does not exist on its own in the various indices that I scanned.

Cathy
Marin Co., CA

Do you know anything about Jesse's wife/wives?? I have seen quite a few variations.

I did find in Ancestry two records:

Jesse Mcminn b abt 1795 married Affa Kuykendall b abt 1796 married 1812 in Rutheford County, NC

Jesse Mcminn married Sylvia Boling 7 Nov 1861 in Fannin County, Georgia

discrepancies I have seen:

Jessie died in 1862 - I found an 1870 census record with Jesse and Sophia in Fannin, Georgia

Jesse married to Affa Boling
Jessie married to Sophia Boling 1821
Jessie married to Affa Kuykendall 1819

it's getting very confusing!

were there two Jesse's born abt 1795 living in Fannin Georgia or do some people have his death date wrong?

if he married Sylvia in 1861, then Affa must have been his first wife. Does anyone know FOR SURE what her maiden name was?

Yes, my grandfather was Archibald Campbell McMinn (of that ilk) and, I am told, had ancestors at Menzies Castle in Weem. I have visited the castle - a beautiful, solid and very atmospheric place - and hope to do so again soon.

Do you have any info on ancestors of Robert McMinn, who came to US, South Carolina, in 1767 and married Jane Kuykendall? I have his descendants, but can't find when he immigrated or from where. I hear Scotland or Northern Ireland, and some say Pennsylvania. You in central time zone? I'll try to call tonight or tomorrow evening. Thanks!

Robert is also my 8th ggrandfather. I didn't know that we came from NS until I read your post. My aunt had done a book on The McMinn's and had traced the family back to Scotland. At that time she didn't know the names of his parents either. We may never know but it is a challenge or us to try to find. When you get the book printed, let me know the price.

If you ever want to talk, my number is 231-878-4933. The best time to catch me would be before noon or anytime after 4 to 11 pm. If I don't answer, leave me a message and I'll return your call.

Darlene Schwab

My ancester is Andrew McMinn. He came to Nova Scotia and his descendant John Andrew settled in Dartmouth, Halifax, NS. I found John Andrew McMinn in Dartmouth, Halifax, NS.
They owned a brick kiln and also a farm, which was sold and they moved west. He is my great grandmother's father. Andrew was married three times while in Dartmouth area. I have copies of Wills and story. His half sister's family still lives in NS area.
Any help would be appreciated. I am also willing to exchange information I have on the NS McMinn's.
Thank you
Janet
