Catherine was the daughter of Charles McMullen and Margaret (nee Gallagher). She was born in 1873. She had numerous brothers and sisters including John McMullen (famous via the Catherine Cookson stories). There were brothers Joseph, James and Charles. There were sisters Margaret, Mary and Celia. Possibly there were other siblings too.

Catherine McMullen married John Lowry (or Lowrey) in 1894. They had one boy and two girls. Only one of the girls survived and that was my grandmother. So, Catherine was my great-grandmother.

I was born and educated in South Shields but have lived the past 40 years in Australia. I returned to SS last year to research family history and the above is what I discovered.
