I know that my grandfather was born around the turn of the century. His parents were Thomas McNail and Berta Fink. I don't know where his family my have come from, but there were several of them living in Centarlia durin both my mother's and ,y lifetimes. Does this match with anything you have? His aunt and uncle were Lillian and Frank Fink who lived in Chicago, IL. Thanks, Donna

Can you give me a little more information on Robert McNail. I am sure there is a connectin as that name is not too common. My eldest McNail was b 1763 in VA or PA and came to MO in 1799. They settled in Washington County, Iron County, Reynolds County, Missouri. Now. I do have a lot of information on some McNails in Illinois that I have not been able to tie into my family as yet but the name Fink is not in there.
Give me a little more information. Who did Robert McNail marry and their children's names. Maybe we can connect here.
Thanks
Carol

Bob married Vivian Hamilton (Fowler)in the 1940's. They had two children, Paul and Charles. She had two children from her previous marriage, Vivian Leigh Fowler and Frank Earl Fowler Jr. Lillian Fink was Bob's aunt and she lived in Chicago where her husband Frank Fink was a produce distributer. Bob's mother was called Berta Fink, but I'm finding out that many of my family members went by middle names and nicknames so it's hard for me to say whether that was her given name or not for sure. Bob's Grandmother, whose name I don't have a clue on was a Sioux Indian Princess. Her Indian name was Princess Potenpaw, spelled phonetically. Bob's dad's name was Thomas. That's all I know, allthough my grandmother is still living and more information is available from her, but her memory is slipping and some of what she remembers isn't 100% reliable.

None of the names you have mentioned are in my records. Now the McNails were pretty spread out and there might still be a chance for a connection. If you could, your grandmother might remember Counties or States that she lived in and her birth certificate would give you some real good info. She would know her parents and brothers and sisters names and possibly where they are born. Good Luck and keep me posted.
Thanks

Sorry it had taken me so long to get back to you. My mother was very sick. I have more information on my grandfather now. What I have says : Luther Alonzo McNAil m, Alice( whose real name is said t be Princess Potenpaw if I have the right grandmother), one of their children was Thomas E. McNail b. 10/26/1874 in Ashley, IL d. 3/15/1935 m.4/29/1901 to Bertha Emlia Fink b. 9/12/1871 and died in Centralia, IL 2/23/1944 their son Robert Paul McNAil b.6/19/1906 was my grandfather. He died 12/22/1971. I don't know where Luther Alonzo came from. There is a picture of Thomas and Bertha on thier wedding day in the family. But that's all I have on him and my grandmother is not much help as she is greatly confused these days. Sorry it took me so long. I should be much quicker to respond from here on.

McNail Family

So, you are from the McNail line in Ashley, Illinois. I have a whole file on that line and have been trying to tie them into my line in Missouri for years. Does the name Stanley McNail ring a bell ? He wrote some books and did some genealogy on the McNail family in Ill. Some of the names (off the top of my head) are
Andrew Jackson McNail
William B. McNail (The oldest)
Hawkins surname....
I will have to dig out that file and take a look at it.

Give me some of your other surnames...

Carol, I know very little about the family. I know Bob was married once before marrying my gtrandmother, and that the guy next door was his cousin and that's about it other than my mother's memories of Bob's mother. I will ask my grandmother and see if the name Stanley rings a bell with her - but her memory is often unreliable. You can email me directly at desk79@cis.net if you want. I have pictures of my grandfather is you'd like to see some of them I can email them to you as well. My mother told me many times that Bob had quite a few relatives in MO. But it seems like everyone living in South-central IL did have a lot of family there- I just don't know why. I look forward to hearing from you. Take care, Donna

Hi Donna,

You can e-mail me direct at Cmckay722@aol.com if you want to send a photo.

If you could only get together some more McNail names to go on, maybe we could make a connection. The oldest McNail in the Illinois McNail line is William B McNail and I think he married a Hawkins and they had upteen children. Now I think William might have been a brother or some relative of my John McNail b Abt 1763 and came to MO 1799.
Some of the other names in my line are Benjamin S McNail, my GGGGrandfather, he married Savannah Stout in 1837 in Washington County, Mo. Their son was Jacob Whitaker McNail who married Elizabeth Adella Haven. Their son was Dallas Ellsworth McNail who married Bessie Rose Anna Armstrong and they had my grandfather, Earl Calvin McNail b 1907 in St. Louis, Mo. That is my direct line but I have a huge McNail database.

Later
