There was a John C. McNair in Dallas co., AL, in 1840 or 1850. His middle name was Cathron, however.

Kim, your last name is Ferguson. There are Fergusons in the town in MS where L.D. McNair's family settled also. Are they kin to you?

Hello, cousin!
I looked at your posts to see who you were interested in & they were all in 1999. Did you get bogged down? Are you still curious about our clan?

We should know each other. I'm certain that we are cousins 'cause I'm a descendent of Lorenzo Dow McNair as well. If you will email me, I'd love to share info w/you.

Incidentally, have you read a copy of Mary Collins Landin's book about the 13 related families? She did an excellent job, but I have a copy of "Papa's History" that you might be interested in if you are who I think you are.

Looking for information about William Robert McNair, born Sep 23, 1823 in Groveland, New York to Robert and Amelia (Warner) McNair. He married Mary Williamson Mann on Dec 18, 1850, and had six children. William R. McNair died Apr 12, 1911 in Lima, New York, at age 87. He was buried in Oakridge Cemetery. I'd like to know if there are any pictures of him, or if anyone knows anything about his marriage to Mary Williamson Mann, who may have been married previously to Nathaniel B. Mann. Can anyone provide any answers?
-Jack

William spent his early years in the Linton and Camperdown areas of Victoria. William and Lily are now in the Derrinallum Cemetery and I have a Magilton chart which lists most of their descendants.
The 1925 Iowa census shows the following (I beleive that the spouse's name is misspelled. It also shows possible father as Rollin Adams, but that is because Rollin Adams and his wife lived with William and wife, so that is not likely true.
Name: William McNair
Census Date: 1 Jan 1925
Residence County: Warren
Residence State: Iowa
Locality: Indianola
Birth Location: Pennsylvania
Marital Status: Married
Gender: Male
Birth Year: abt 1852
Race: White
Relation to Head: Head
Mother: Catherin McNair
Mother's Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Father: Clark McNair
Father's Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Marriage Place: Pennsylvania
Spouse Name: Ella V McNair
Line: 30
Roll: IA1925_1974

One tree on ancestry shows this info:
Name: Peter J. MCNAIR
Sex: M
Birth: ABT. 1836 in Fayette Co. Pennsylvania
Fact 1: Farmer in Clark County, Iowa

Father: Andrew Smith MCNAIR b: 9 APR 1810 in Pennsylvania
Mother: Catherine CLUSTER b: 1810 in Pennsylvania

Marriage 1 Deborah CONWAY b: 4 JUL in Pennsylvanna
* Married: WFT Est. 1852-1887
Children
1. A.J. MCNAIR b: ABT. 1864 in Pennsylvanna
2. J.D. MCNAIR b: NOV 1868 in Pennsylvanna
3. Sylvester MCNAIR b: MAY 1876 in Milo, Iowa
4. Peter J. McNair JR b: APR 1880 in Iowa
5. William H. MCNAIR b: JUN 1882 in Iowa

Marriage 2 Mary O. LEONARD b: WFT Est. 1836-1879 in Iowa
* Married: 29 SEP 1896 in Chariton, Iowa
Children
1. Benedict K. MCNAIR b: JUL 1898 in Iowa

I had the following census records saved: The 1850 Census shows Peter McNair living with parents Andrew and Catherine McNair in Henry Clay, Fayette Co. Pennsylvania. In 1880 he is with wife #1 in Whitebreast, Warren co. IA. In 1885 they are in the same city, but it shows they live next to Ellis and Martha McNair, ages 26 (or 20? hard to read) and 24. Ellis is the son of Robert C. McNair (who married Clara Jane). In 1900 Peter lives with wife #2 in Liberty, Clarke county, IA.

The family tree on ancestry had the father of Andres McNair as Robert, born 1775 in Maryland and Robert's father as Samuel, born 1724-1753, and Samuel as the son of Alexander, born 1684-1727 in Frederick County, Maryland. All of this info was on One World Tree. I had Andrew Smith McNair's parents as Robert McNair, and his father as John McNair. I will look to see what evidence I had showing this, as I usually don't record something unless I see at least some evidence that shows it to be true. I'll get back to you on that.
Have you found the name of the McDonald who married your McNair? I have an Edward McDonald (McDonnell etc-various spellings) who married Mary Campbell in 1789 in Chambersburg. They had the following children: John 1797-1846 (my great-great-great grandfather who moved to Illinois), Patrick, Terrence, James, Edward, Mary Catherine, & Maria. Mary had 2 brothers: Patrick & Terrence who were storekeepers in Chambersburg & Bedford. Could Mary Catherine or Maria be your McDonald?

I have a hard copy of a book by James Birtley McNair that tells the story of how the decendents of James and Christiana McNair (Walker) came to the US

This is the story

John McNair was born in 1690. It is said that in the year 1690 or thereabouts his father left his home eon the banks of River Dee in Scotland and went away with his family to seek a new home in the North of Ireland. Local persecution of some sort is given as the cause of removal. They settled in Parish Taboyne County Donegal on what was known as "Blanket Nuc" farm of which they had secure da "three lives lease" John McNair Jr. married Christiana Walker , who was born in 1700 and settled down on this farm. It happened soon after the death of his father and the expiration of the “the first ife” the parish schoolmaster was called in to regulate the family accounts. It was house-cleaning time and so the chest contacting the papers to be examined was set out under a tree in the garden. After looking over the accounts the “treacherous school-master” “hooked and stole the deed” which secured the family of the family during the lives of John McNair and his son William. The chest was relocked and taken to its place and the theft passed for a time without detection. The schoolmaster then slipped over in London in England, and forged a new deed and sold the same to a Squire Howard who soon sent an agent to Ireland requiring the surrender of the property or else the procurement of a new lease. Of course the original deed was sought for and not found and therefore to avoid a “tedious and vexatious law-suit John McNair set sail with his family for America. In was in the year 1738, his widowed mother , who is blind and two of his children died shipboard and were buried at sea. The rest landed in Philadelphia and after spending some time in Bucks County Pennsylvania, settled finally in the Irish settlement in Northampton County, Pennsylvani.

I would love to hear anything else that folks have on this amazing story.
