That was my Great-Grandfather & Grandmother McNaught :)
I actually grew up in Girard,Il which is the neighboring town of Virden,IL.. My Grandpa McNaught (son of Maurice) still resides 6miles away!! In fact, that photo was taken either right before or after he was born.
Not sure if you'll ever check this again, but I would love to retrieve such keepsake photos!!

I have several records of yer Kin ower here.
Including Hector McNaught's birth, in Kilmaronock 1808.
His parents were John and Janet Marshall.
My ain lot moved to the area, a bit later than yer ain, 1839.
Oor Walter married Ann Marshall, and had a Daughter, Margaret.
Would be really interested in gettin' in touch.

Bill, Several years back I rec'd a message from one of your decendants. She lived in southern Illinois. I will look and see if I can find her email. It has been a while.
I have been to the cemetery many times but it is so overgrown it is impossible for one person to clean it up.
But I'm sure that there would be clues for you there.

Just seen your old message. One of my great uncles immigrated to the Chicago area from Glasgow, Scotland in the 1860s. His name was Hugh McNaught, married to Jane Walker. They took 2 children with them to the USA and then had a further five, John in 1866, Margary 1869, Jane 1871, Hugh 1876 and James 1879. I assume they knew other McNaughts in the area and thats why they chose Illinois. I've not been able the find any decendants. Can you help.

I have done extensive research of my wonderful Grandfather Arthur MacNaught. Of course when people came to the New World, yes the United States (US) it was not uncommon to change names. I can be linked to John McNaught of John McNaught of 1794, and quite a few earlier John McNaught's of as early as 1761. As a matter of fact how the McNaught's in the US track back to me is though the McNaught and Shaw family. They resided in Delaware County and I know the family history in the US. In fact my grandmother who married Arthur is still alive. She was a NORTH and her family was one of the first settlers of Walton, NY. They provided Leadership/Service in the RR and transportation industry. She and the MacNaught's were very proment people in the US. The McNaught's were Dr.'s when in Delaware County. They were also the provided leadership in the form of religion, Law, including Judges, and security such as Game wardens. My grandfather was very smart enjoyed to read and was an construction engineer. He build many roads and bridges in the eary 1900's. His brother Marshal and Macolm were sucessful citizens. HECTOR SHAW is a native of Hamden, Delaware County, N.Y., and an influential and worthy citizen of that town, for the welfare of which he is ever laboring. He is of Scotch ancestry, being a son of Donald Shaw, who was born in Argyle, Scotland, in 1788, and was brought to America by his parents when but nine years of age. Twenty- four years later he married Janet McNaught, who was also Scotch, being a native of Dunbartonshire on Loch Lomond, where she was born in 1798, a daughter of John McNaught. She sailed for the New World in 1817; and in 1821 they were married in Bovina, and settled in Hamden, on the flats one mile below the village, where they were at one time possessors of one thousand acres of land.

Janet had 9 children with Hector. Arthur Shaw was one of them, who married Jennie Bostwick, daughter of Marcus and Deborah (Kellogg) Bostwick, and is the father of four children. Augusus born 1871, Shirley born 1873, Catherine born in 1879, and Edith, born in 1882. Edit Shaw was my mothers Grandmother. Janet lived to be over 96.
That’s where it’s a little weird and I might loose you. Edith Shaw married a Malcolm She may or may have not known that her blood came from Janet McNaught whom sailed to the US and married Hector in 1821, that would have been her grandmother. Anyway she married Marshall McNaught born in 1884. Marshall was decendent of Malcom born in 1852 whose father was John M. McNaught 1821 from Bovina, Delaware County, NY, A couple generations before in John McNaught’s from 1761, from Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
I think that is when the name changed to MacNaught. Anyway my grandfather Arthur MacNaught and Elenor Virginia (North) MacNaught my Grandmother had my Mother Patricia Ann (MacNaught) Allen, and my two uncles Malcom MacNaught and Robert MacNaught. My sister Kim and I (Brad) Allen have quite a few wonderful MacNaught relatives. Our living cousins are Brandon James, Clinton John, Ramsey Jade - (from Robert) and Caroline, Lindsey, Taylor, and Kelsy -(from Malcolm). My wife and I travel often and have 2 girls Avery Michelle and Reese Alene. I would like to get in touch with my long lost relatives from Scotland. I know that it is easier to communicate now with email.

Thanks for the reply, I did contact the owners and they gave permission. It is a Corp Farm company. The cemetery is completely over grown with lilies. I tried to several times to locate stone but one would need an army to clean out. Thanks for the reply.

Hope you still need this info. I don't know who owns the land, but here are the directions. I put them from Bloomington, Illinois because that's the biggest nearby town.

I-39 north
Exit 8
Turn right at the top of the ramp
Take the first left IL-251
Go into Kappa. Turn right on 17.
First left county road 6/2800 E
Right at E 2900 NOrth Rd.
Right at N 2080 East Rd.
Turn right, it becomes E 2775 NOrth Rd.
Don't turn right when road does, turn left. There is a little dirt road. YOu have to get out and walk about 1/2 mile into the field....it's on a hill

I'm looking for information on my great grandfather John McNaught who was born about 1871. He married a Mary McIlvain from Glasgow and they had my grandmother Margaret.

John McNaught was born in Scotland,may have been a Porter and come over on the Tuscania. McNaught may have been McNaughton at one time. At one point John came to the U.S. and lived at 949 Avenue E in Bayonne, Hudson County, NJ.

Someone found out a lot about the McIlvain side but I dont have much information on John McNaught. I'm curious what his parents names were.

LEBANON — A celebration of life potluck will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Elmira Church of Christ for Nellie Faye Turner of Lebanon, formerly of Elmira. She died Nov. 20 of Alzheimer’s disease and a stroke. She was 82.

She was born April 8, 1925, in Pratt, Kan., to Vern and Beulah Zeigler McNaught. She married Lawrence Turner on Aug. 19, 1944, in Dinuba, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby of Palm Desert, Calif., and Larry of Redmond; two daughters, Nancy Carter of Lebanon and Linda Snell of Jakarta, Indonesia; three sisters, Helen of Texas, Hazel of Portland and Lois of Kansas; a brother, Ray of Folsom, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her husband died April 28, 2006.

Arrangements by Alpha Cremation Services in Eugene. Remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Association Cascade Coast Regional Office in Eugene.

I have been researching a Joseph Bartholomew family. Three of the Martha Wooden McNaught children married into that family. Elizabeth McNaught became Joseph Bartholomew (the father) second wife, Nancy McNaught married John Bartholomew (Joseph's son) and Thomas McNaught married Catherine Bartholomew (Joseph's daughter). Joseph Bartholomew and his first wife traveled from Pennsylvania to Kentucky, then on to Indiana where a county was named in his honor. I wouldn't be surprised if they had traveled together.

Thank you for replying to my McNaught family. My Dugald was married Jan 1 1879 to Christina McDougall. On his marriage reg. it lists his mother as Isabell Campbell, but on his death reg. his mother is Sarah Leitch. We believe Sarah Leitch to be his mother and possible that his grandfather was Donald McNaught married to Ann Campbell. My Dugald is listed as ploughman on marriage reg. and Stone mason on Death reg.. I have Dugald and Christina living at 90 Poltalach St. when my grandmother Isabella was born. Christina later lived with her daughters in 1915 until her death in 1944 at 110 Mclelland St. Glasgow.

My grandfather was also Dugald McNaught
He was also born in Lochgilphead Scotland in 1856
but he was married to a Jeannie McLachlan
and moved to Dunoon where they had four children
Robert( my grandfather) John Euphemia and Jean
Dugald worked as a ferry assistant.
His grandson my Uncle Robert aged 83 says that your Dugald was possibly a cousin of my Dugald as he remembers his aunt Euphemia and Jean talking about part of their family moving to America
I have recently returned from a visit to Dunoon and found a headstone put up by
Duncan McNaught
who had brothers Malcom, Dugald,( my grandfather) sisters Mary and Elizabeth.
Duncan's mother and father were Malcolm McNaught died 1903 aged87 and Euphemia Campbell Mc Naught

Just going through the old messages on the McNaught messages board and noticed your message Re Devonia Born on s.s Devonia. When Devonia returned from America with his father & sisters He later married my Husbands Aunt ( Namely Mary Johnstone Welsh, i know they had a daughter Annie who married a James Russell but not what other children they had. You said your mother was Devonia Mcnaught who was her parents. If Devonia Mcnaught born on board ship was your Grandfather then Mary Welsh would be your Grandmother?My husband said he remembers an Aunt Devonia on his dad side and they came from Bathgate. is there any connection. I know you posted this some time ago but i thought i would try gain to trace His Aunt Devonia any mor info on the McNaught family

My wife is a McNaught and was born in Dumbarton, Scotland. Her dad is James McNaught, who was born in Bonhill, Scotland on Jan. 24, 1924 who married Mary (Moira) Oliver from Renton, Scotland.

James' father was also a James McNaught, who was born in Jamestown, Scotland on Nov. 1, 1893 and died on Jan. 27, 1965. James' wife was Elizabeth Rodger who was born in 1897 in Scotland and died on Oct. 15, 1973.

James' father was also a James McNaught, who married Margaret (Maggie) Fletcher. Maggie was born on July 1862 in Bonhill.

James' father was Jacob McNaught, who was born on Oct. 27, 1827 in Luss, Dumbartonshire, Scotland and married Grace McMurrich on March 23, 1850. Grace was born in Alexandria, Scotland about 1831 in Luss. Jacob and Grace had a son, also named Jacob, who was born on Nov. 17, 1854 in Dumbarton and a daughter, also named Grace, who was born Dec. 23, 1858 in Luss, Dumbarton, Scotland.

Jacob (1854) married Margaret Thompson on Dec. 28, 1876. Margaret was born in 1858 in Ayr, Scotland. Jacob and Margaret had a boy named Jacob Brown McNaught on March 14, 1879 in Paidley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

Jacob Brown McNaught married Mary Jane Coulter on Feb. 23, 1900. They had a son named JOHN POLLACK McNAUGHT on July 19, 1920 in Alexandria, Scotland and died in Victoria, Australia.

Hope this helps and maybe you can give me some more info on the McNaughts from Dumbarton.

Hi Again Jean 4724, These are some of the names I found in the "McNaught Papers". They are either mentioned individually or there are letters from England being sent to William Mcnaught, 1863-1900........William is son of J. MCNaught. Had at leaste 3 children; Effie, William and John. J McN resided Glenmorris near Galt Canada. Margaret Colson, cousin of W McN. There are specific letters from family from England. I don't have that info yet. Will get apon my nex trip to the Atlanta History Center, in a few weeks. Thanks for the nice return email. Linda

I am researching the name WILLIAN McNAUGHT who was born in Scotland. His birth yr. is 1815. He was in business with my family member THOMAS SCRUTCHINS before and after Civil War in Atlanta Georgia. The reason I am contacting you is I noticed the name EUPHINA (SPELLED THIS WAY IN 1850 Census) in your family tree on Ancestry. This name was the name of William McNaught and Judith's first child. Judith was from Virginia. There were Canada connetctions as I have made a recent fabulous find in the Atlanta History Center. There are 8 boxes of correspondance filed there on "William McNaughts" business adventures around the country and various personal letters back and forth from Canada and Scotland and England. Hi Linda, nice of you to take the time to contact me with your exciting information.Euphemia is a strong family name My great aunt was Euphemia, her aunt was Euphemia and HER mother was Euphemia(nee Campbell)This takes us back to Around 1850 in Dunoon.(I have recently visited the family grave there.)
Euphemia Campbell(this is when the name Euphemia first comes into the family) was married to Malcolm McNaught whose father was Alexander McNaught born in about 1829.
I cannot trace a William in the family but that is not to say that there was not a William in Malcolm's or Alexander's family.
I have not yet delved this far back and many McNaughts did emigrate to other countries.
I shall keep searching and let you know if I find a William

Robert's parents given as John and Helen Rankin.
Jane's as Andrew and Mary Hazlett.
Jane died in 1937 aged 73, her daughter Sarah? Campbell witnessed the cert

Looking to find owner of the land the McNaught Cem. is located on. Would also like to find decendants of the McNaughts for info about them and neighbors around the 1850-60 era. My GGgrandmother is buried in the McNaught Cem. and was neighbors to many McNaughts. My Ggrandfather entered the Civil war with a couple of McNaughts.

So nice to have some contact. I will give you some more info which should help fill in some blanks. Yes, my granny on mum's side was Mary Johnstone Welsh. My Granny & GRandpa (Devonia) had the following children - Annie, Elsie, Elizabeth, Helen, Mary, Joseph and last but not least, my mum Devonia (called after Grandpa). I'm very sad to say that all are now passed away. My mum died in 1995 aged 61. I was called after my granny Mary Welsh Millar. I have loads more info on the McNaughts but not so much on the Welsh's as I believe that name originates from England and my granny's father was Peter Welsh. I've only been able to do the Scottish side. Just to give you some age context, I am 50 years old and have 3 brothers and live in Bathgate, West Lothian. Happily, my dad is still alive and kicking at 76years old and shares my passion for genealogy. I also have a William McNaught born in Renton. He was born 17 Dec 1865. His mother is Jane or Jean McNaught. He married Annie Watt. I am trying to trace the family back. Jane's father is John McNaught, mother Marion or Marjory Roy.
