Looking for Eli Williams, b.Fulton,Logan County,Ill. 13 Aug 1836.One place said his father was Otho and his mother__McNew.Eli m.Catherine Stroud,b.Logan County,Ill. They lived out their lives in Monroe and Mahaska Countys in Iowa. So many of these locations and names seem to match up, somewhat, with your info. Have had no luck so far finding anything more out about Eli's parents. Census stated his parents were both born in Kentucky but gave no names.Eli and Catherine are my great great grandparents. Any thoughts? Thanks so much! Lillian

I am also related to the Reeds on my grandmother's side of the family. When you mentioned the Reed's reunion, I was wondering if there could possibly be a connection.

Yes, I do have that, but the grave is not marked. I have tried to find old cemetary records but cannot any for her. Someone at the genealogy department in Canton has said that it is in the works to redo old records so that names will show up that used to be listed but are not listed now.
Virginia

I am descended from Henry McNew and Jane Eagle, also. I am very interested in some of your info you posted. Have a couple of questions: Where did you get the name of Dewey McNew? His age fits the timeframe of one of Henry and Jane's sons, but I have never been able to find any of the sons. Would love to know your source!
I understood from census records that Elvira was the last child born to Henry and Jane. Where did you find Lousia? I would have thought she would be on the census with Jane and Elvira in 1850. Please contact me at merryharts@peoplepc.com.
Not sure if you are still posting, but I was wondering if you ever found out anything more on this line. I just found a connection to McNew (by marriage) in my family line. David Calvin (or Calvin) and Hilda were parents to Enda McNew, my great grand aunt-in-law. Hilda's maiden name was Hager. I have a few more of David Calvin and Hilda's children's names if you are interested. I'm working back to William and Joann, but some of the census records do not match up with David Calvin's siblings names. I'm wondering what your source is for your info (does it independently confirm the relationships)?

Re: Daniel born 1874, James born 1842, Willis born 1815 in IN??

Peggy, you asked about the parents of Willis McNew. My research shows that his parents were Jeremiah (born 1783 in Clark Co., IN and died 11/09/1882) and Nancy Dunbar. They were married 5/13/1805 in Shelby Kentucky. I only show two children that they had, Willis born 5/25/1816 and an Allen, born in the year 1811.

Jeremiah's parents seem to be another Jeremiah (born 1737 in Prince George, MD and died 3/1788 in Jefferson Co., KY) and mother Keziah Smallwood. I show their offsprings were Jeremiah, Richard (born 1781), Benjamin (born 1774), David (born 1776), Easter (born 1780), and Zedekiah (born 1783).

The parents of Jeremiah (the one born in 1737) seem to be William (born 8/14/1715 in St. Johns Parish, Prince George, MD, and died 12/1791 in Washington Co., VA) and Mary Berry (there seems to be a question regarding Mary's maiden name, but this is what I've found). She was born 1718 and died 3/20/1798 in Washington Co., VA. Their offsprings were Jeremiah (1737), John (1745), Shadrack (1747), Elisha (1746), Edward (1755), and George (11/17/1763).

The parents of William appear to be Jeremiah II MacKnew, born 1688 in Charles Co., MD and died 11/1715 or 1716 in Prince George, MD. Mother was Sarah Marlow Marler born in 1685 and died 3/1727 or 1728. Their offspring were William, MaryLucy MacKnew (2/08/1707 or 1708), Anne MacKnew (11/08/1711), and Edward Marley MacKnew (8/14/1713).

Jeremiah II MacKnew parents were probably Jeremiah MacKnue MacKnew (around 1640 in Scotland) and Phylis (last name unknown). Their offspring were Jeremiah II MacKnew, John Howard MacKnew (about 1668), Lomax MacKnew (about 1675), and Anthony MacKnew (about 1670).

Note, I don't have specific hardcore research records before Willis and Nancy Dunbar. But, the line from Jeremiah MacKnue MacKnew to Willis appears to have been pretty well researched by other researchers. Once I proved that Daniel was the son of James Allen and James Allen was the son of our Willis, then the dates and locations matched the other established line fairly well. The Dunbar family researchers, if I remember correctly, had done a pretty thorough trace and the tough part was clarifying if our Willis was their Willis. I personally visited the cemetery in Marysville (Outside of Louisville KY) and found Willis and Nancy buired there, along with James Allen's wife, Elizabeth Leah Taflinger.

I live in Weatherford, Texas (just west of Fort Worth). If you communicate with Vic, please pass along my email address to him. I haven't seen him for a number of years and would like to reconnect.

Also, I'd appreciate any information you may find, particularly on Chet's burial site.

Regards,
Gary

His parents, Daniel and Ida, had seven siblings:
Chester L, Ruth I, Dorothy M, Carl H, Loral J ("Pat"), William D, Victor H, and Norman. William was my father. My name is Gary. Chet had three sons, Alan (Chester Alan), Vic (Victor Ray), and Donnie.

Thanks for Elizabeth Leah's maiden name. I remember coming across her maiden name now that you've reminded me. I hadn't made a record of it previously.

They had the following known children:
Daniel Harvey (my fraternal grandfather), Joseph, Jerima, Hamilton, Laura J, Mary J, and "Infant".

I've been unable to track down birth, death dates, and final resting place for James.
Can you help any???

What I do know about the McNew Family in Baltimore.
My Grandmother is Geraldine McNew (Jan 6, 1929-). She has had sisters Delores, Leona(born 1921), Ida May (born 1924), Francis (born 1925), Rose (born 1927) and brother Leonard born(1919). Her mother was Agnes Kalinowski (1898-1984). Her father was Leonard Sylvester McNew (1894-1977).

From above: Delores marries Joseph Jankiewicz several children. Leona marries Joseph Brigandi, several children. Ida May marries Theodore Rukowicz. unknown children. Francey marries Pete Rukowicz, several children. Rose marries John "Buddy" Calo. Geraldine marries George Ippolito.

Leonard Sylvester McNew(1894-1977) has a father named Leonard B McNew (1867-1943) Leonards mother was Ida May Oliver(born Oct 25,1869).

Now things Im not sure about.
Leonard Brown McNew has a father Henry H McNew (born Aug 1842). He seems to have had two different wives, one Elizabeth, and another Isabella. I am finding the names mixed on documents, with same children but differt births. I have street addresses, ect. mostly located in the area of Baltimore called Fells Point. Then Henry disappears.I dont have names but his parents were both from Baltimore.
Thank YOU

I don't know if you will see this, as it's been a long tim e since you asked the question. But, can you go back a ways in the line of Edward McNew? The only Mary Polly I have was Mary Polly Kerr, who married John J McNew. She was born in 1811 and died in 1857 in Ripley, IN. As I haven't yet traced all of the McNew ancestors, there may be some I have missed. I also have a William McNew who died in Washington Co., VA in Dec. 1791. There may be some connection. I will try to help if you haven't found your answer yet.

Hi Gary. My name is Peggy and my son is married to step grdaughter of Chester. I do not have your father's birth or death information. I talked to Vic last week, son of Chester, and he'd like more info on the McNew family...back further if I can find it. I thought I'd start with the message boards. Do you have the parents of Willis by any chance? And do you have that Willis was born in IN?? Thanks for writing.

Pat,
I'm trying to locate information regarding Henry McNew's (son of George McNew and Sarah Jackson)wife Jane Eagle. I was told she was Cherokee and returned to the reservation in Oklahoma in early 1900's, after her husband's death. Elvira Jane McNew Knott was their daughter, my 2nd great grandmother. Any information you have would be helpful.
Thanks,

I am also trying to locate information on this family regarding Henry McNew's (son of George McNew and Sarah Jackson)wife Jane Eagle. They were my 3rd Great-Grandparents and I'm having difficulty locating her family. I have been told she was Cherokee and returned to the reservation in Oklahoma after her husband's death. Would you happen to have any information regarding the family?
Thanks!
