My Great-Grandfather was James McNulty. He came here from Ireland and worked for the railroad. I believe he followed the railroad - as a laborer - to Michigan. His son, William McNulty moved to Duluth, Minnesota where he died in the 1930's or 40's. His son, my father, Patrick James McNulty lived in Duluth Minnesota until he died in 1997. Patrick had a sister, Kathrine, (Kathy) Rustic who lived in Port St. Lucie Florida as late as 1997. Does anyone have any connection to these McNultys?

1906 obituary for Margaret Linehan, mother of Mrs. John McNulty

From the Cascade, Iowa, Pioneer, 8 March 1906

"Mrs. Margaret Linehan, of Dubuque, died Monday afternoon at her home in
that city. She was a native of County Limerick, Ireland, where she was
born Dec. 6, 1835, and a resident of Dubuque since 1848. Her husband,
James Linehan, a well known carpenter contractor in former times, died 25
years ago. She was the mother of ten children, of whom the surviving, sons
are James, local freight agent for the Illinois Central, William R. and
Thomas J., the grocers, and Joseph A., of Memphis, Tenn. The surviving
daughters are Mrs. John McNulty of Denver and Elizabeth and Nellie M. of
Dubuque. Mrs. Linehan also leaves a sister in the order of the Sisters of
Charity. Her final sickness, extending over the period of two years, was
borne with the splendid courage, patience, and cheerfulness of one
conscious of duty well done in her relations as wife, mother, and neighbor
and sustained by an unfaltering faith in the goodness and mercy of the
Supreme Judge."
McNulty and McDonnell Killaser Swinford, Mayo

I wondered if there could be new subscribers to this board who may not have seen my other posts so I thought I'd start a new thread with my latest info. Sorry to anyone who has seen this already. -I also have images of the homestead foundation but assume I can't post images here. Ah, seems I can. I'll also attach an image of a church though I'm guessing it is a newer church. Anyone is welcome to email me if they think they could help figure out where it is exactly.

My great great grandfather, Martin McNulty, from Swinford, was born, 3 May 1863 and baptised 5 May 1863 at All Saints Church, Killasser, Diocese of Archary (sp?). He was son of Daniel McNulty and Mary McDonnell. Sponsors were Brian McNulty and Catherine McDonnell.
The twist here is that family legend says that Martin was the product of a second marriage and the youngest of 16 kids. So, I'm wondering aside from if anyone has additional info on the above people, if anyone has a Daniel in there tree with a Brian in the family, and who's wife of Daniel may have died before 1863.
Also, my mother's uncle showed me photos of a McNulty homestead. He couldn't describe exactly where in Swinford it is and said there are many different such remains in Swinford. he only said it was the --- family that showed it to him. That was in 1979. I've been playing back the tape of my interview with him to try and find that part too hear what the name was but can't seem to find it. I will post again when I do and hope someone knows of the family.
Also will post another query later on immigration - well, may as well mention what I know off the top of my head - Martin came to the US onboard the SS Batavia June 5, 1881. There was also a Michael McNulty age 17 onboard but we don't know who he was and there is no knowledge of a sibling living around here. I have not been able to find a ship list for the Batavia and am not sure how my great aunt arrived at that conclusion. the only clue I have is a scrap of paper on which she had written the above info and #80. I wonder what #80 refers to?
She also had a note about martin's future wife, Mary Hines arriving on Scandinavia, May 22, 1884 and this note says next to it, #594.

McNulty of Swinford updates

Not sure of my last postings but I think I have at least confirmed more fully the dates I had for my great great grandfather, Martin J. McNulty. Family says he was from Kilasser, Swinford, Mayo. He was born November 11, 1864 and immigrated to US in 1881. Family says he left from Ireland and came right to Boston - but I can't find any ships lists to confirm that story.

His marriage certificate states that he married Margaret M. Hines who was age 20 when they married on Aug 29, 1894 in Lynn, MA (I am told they met in Ireland or on the way over here). Her parents were Michael and Barbara. Martin's parents were Daniel and Mary.

I have also recently found Martin on a passenger list returning from Galway in May 1928. Family story says that he once suddenly went back to Ireland for a year and no one ever knew why. When asked about it, he said, "We won't talk about it". HHhhmmm,, was anything going on at that time back there?

Anyway, hoping this will match with anyone elses research and wishing you all lucky searching with your own trees!

My mum came from a place called Rooskey, which I can find very little info about. Her father was Anthony Joseph McNulty born around 1860. He spent 1880-1920 in the US (but I'm not sure where) and while there married a woman called Armstrong. This woman was subsequently supposed to have been killed in a car accident. Anthony Joseph then came to England and married Teresa Loftus, age 21, from Bradford in Yorkshire, England. He was by this time aged 57! He and his new wife then returned to the McNulty's land in Rooskey. I have found a letter to my mother from the early 1960's signed "your cousins Louise and Earl" who lived in Glenwood Springs Colorado.

McNulty ancestry search-any McNulty

I am looking for history on my grandmother's
family. Her maiden name is Edna Louise McNulty. She married my grandfather John McCurley, had 2 children, then married Richard Cole had another son. I am interested in finding heritage on that side
of my family. The only info I have is that
my great or great-great grandmother was indian. Other than that I have no names or information. Does any of this sound familiar
to any of you?

Gina McCurley-Beard

I am looking for info on siblings, parents and ancestors of Mary Catherine McNulty born in Ballina County Mayo October 1864 to Patrick and Sara Mildred Gillard McNulty. Far as I can find she had three brothers Patrick 1859, Michael 1865 and Thomas 1872. Mary, known by Catherine, married Francis "Frank" Cavanaugh about 1889 and they had five children. Michael 1890 died by 1900; Sarah "Sadie" 1891 died by 1900; Anna M. 1893, married Wm Curtin died in PA; Adella "Della" 1894, married Charles Bethmann died in Schenectady, NY sometime after 1979; Francis Joseph Aug 1896, my grandfather, married Faye E. Manning of Plymouth, VT and died 12/1979. We know from records her mother Sarah lived in Troy and with Catherine's family after Frank's death in 1896 on 4th St. in Troy.
Any further info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

McNutly's of Swinford / Massachusetts

Hi all, I posted an inquiry two years ago and was going to update it but figure anyone subscribed to that thread will also see this one but wasn't sure about the reverse of that.
Anyway, have some new little clues:

Ed McNulty/Mary McGrath-Ireland

I'm looking for information regarding Edward McNulty aka (Edd) b. 3/1862 according to the 1900 Chicago, Illinois census came to the states from Ireland in 1882. He married Mary McGrath b. 1/1860 Ireland. She too arrived in the states in 1882. I did find an Edward McNulty on a New York Passenger list, but because I didn't find any other family members I don't know if it's him or not. It states his arrival date 15 jun 1882 with a birth of 1860 departing from Glasgow, Scotland and Moville, Ireland. Ship name Ethiopia. This information does seem to agree with what is stated on the Chicago, Illinois 1900 census.
Their children were Lizzie b.7/1880 England, James Bernard b.4/1878 Illinois (doubtful, probably England or Ireland). Edward Joseph b.5/1886 Minnesota (per 1900 Chicago, Illinois census). His draft card states birth as 1/31/1887, Hubert Leo b.2/1894 Illinois, Christe (male) not female as listed in the 1900 Chicago, Il census b. 4/1891 Illinois.
The information found in the census is uncertain.
I have no way of searching Ireland for marriage or any other records. Please help.

Thanks
Luci

I have 2 Behan sisters who married McNulty gentlemen. I have positively identified Francis and his brothers. Thomas is likely a nephew but not sure.
Does anyone out there have any information on these brothers? John, James, Thomas, Francis, and Joseph were born in Reville, Canada of Irish parents; in 1848 the family moved to Lowell, Massachuesetts; 1850 to Rhode Island; 1851 to Buchanan Co., IA; 1860 to Washington Co., KS and in 1871 to Rooks Co., KS. Here the brothers remained except James who returned to Washington Co., KS. The possible nephew, Thomas McNulty born Sep 1854 in IA and found in Rooks Co., KS in 1880, moved to Oakdale Township, Noble County, Oklahoma (1900 census).
Thank-you, Becky T.

POW/MIA Korean War, McNULTY

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Bridgeport, CT as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: JOHN WILLIAM MCNULTY
Born: July 30, 1922, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 19, 1951, Missing in Action (MIA)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Mcnulty family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I'm looking for descendants of Patrick McNulty (b. 1844) and Bridget Dempsey (b. 1845) from Cashel, near Foxford, County Mayo. Their 6 children were Mary, Anthony, Ellen, Catherine, Bridget, and Thomas. I know that at least 3 of them (Mary, Ellen, and Catherine) emigrated to the U. S. around 1890. Mary became a Dominican nun (Sister Edmond) in Newburgh, New York; Ellen married a Christian Burton in northern New Jersey; and Catherine (my grandmother) married Thomas McDonald in Gloucester City, New Jersey in 1901. Any information from all McNulty relatives will be appreciated.

Dennis Day/McNulty/McCabe

I'm trying to find the McCabe family associated with Patrick McNulty, Dennis Day's Father. Patrick, according to his death certificate was born 22May,1882 and died 23Dec,!962. It lists Patrick's Mother as being a McCabe. From the censuses, Patrick emigrated in 1902/3. According to the LA Times,15 March,1953, Patrick came from Crossmaglen,Co. Armagh while Molly (also Mary) Grady (Dennis' Mother) came from Carracastle, Co. Mayo. According to the Ellis Island data, the only Patrick McNulty from Crossmaglen arrived in 1896 at 21. This differs from both the death cert. and the census. The only two Patrick's that fit the arrival date is one who came from Aclare (Sligo) who went to Salem, Mass. and one who came from Castleblayney, Co Monagham, and stayed in New York with his sister Lizzie.I believe this is the one I'm looking for.
The question is can anyone help me with the McCabe connection and is it reasonable, the border and all, that he could have come from Castleblayney but been born in Crossmaglen? I know they are only about 5 miles apart.
Sorry for being so windy. Perry

MCNULTY, MARY ELIZABETH & FAMILY (Ireland-USA)

I would like some help in tracking down Mary Elizabeth McNulty's family. Mary (b: 1878, County Dublin, Ireland), married Thomas Morris an English solider stationed in Ireland in 1900 and moved to England in 1901/1902.

However, I do not have any information on her family. Her father was Thomas McNulty who was a builder who married a widow "Dunne" (first name unknown but her maiden name was O'Neil).

Family history has it that the McNulty's of this line moved to the US either just before or just after WW2. I hope somebody out there can help track down this line.
