McNultys in southern New Jersey 1830-present

Seeking descendants of Charles and Mary (Lynch) McNulty.
Both born Ireland.
Charles farmed in Gloucester Co, NJ died in 1866. Widow Mary later moved to Camden, where she died 1898.
Their children: John (1853-1902 married Rachel Curry lived Camden) Michael (1860-1911 married Emma, lived Camden) Abigail, Charles (1857-1926 married Linda, lived Hurffville, NJ) Patrick (1845-??) and Mary J. (1862-19??).

I believe Charles 1857-1926 had two children, Howard and Elizabeth, who married James Parks and had a daughter Clara. The Parks lived in Elk, Gloucester Co., NJ until at least 1930 census. Would love to connect with any descendents.

Hi Swayball 20,
In fact there were two Martin McNulty's born/baptised in Kilasser in 1863. I undertand your Martin was born in Carrick (sp?)The other Martin was born on June 3rd, in Boleyboy. Thanks to your post I know the Carrick/May Martin is not my GGF I believe the Boleyboy one is. Many thanks.

Kilasser is a small enough parish - 7,000 pop in 1838 , and falling rapidly. Don't know if the 2 Martin's were related.
BMN

Anyone researching this line (or others) should try going to Google Books and putting in say Joseph McNulty or whatever for the search. Or just put in McNulty, Mcnulty family, etc.- you'll be surprised at all that may show up. I believe in my researching that there is a McNulty book in Google Books that has a Connolly (or maybe it was Connelly) as the author.

Betty

I know! McNulty is very common. I have no information as to where in Ireland they came from. I found them in NB through the mom's name Mgt Gallagher because I didn't know the name had been spelled McAnulty and another sibling's has it spelled Mcannulty. I think it may have been changed when they emigrated here or the census takers got it wrong.
Eileen Velez

emvelez,

Hi. this came in my mail. I do not know of a Hugh McNulty, however, I do have a Horace. Do the surnames Schmidt and Shannon ring any bells? As for the other names, they were so common back then, it is so hard to differentiate between them. My McNulty's were from Ireland. Most resided in PA. I'm not sure if this will help you any, but if you think it will, you can email me at mommomb@twlakes.net I will share whatever I have with you.

Sincerely,

Bev

My maternal grandfather was also Joseph (Aloysius) McNulty originally from St. John, NB, Canada and listed as McAnulty there. His father was Hugh and mother was Margaret Gallagher. He and his family emigrated to Boston, MA, not sure when. They lived on Batchelder St which is in Roxbury. Joseph married Margaret Connolly from Skibberrean, Co. Cork, Ireland. Joseph passed away in 1959 in Dorchester, MA. One of his brothers was James, sister Mary who was a nun of the Sisters of Charity, Sr. Philip Neri and was at St. Peter's School in Dorchester as a music teacher. She died in the early 1980's. I don't the other siblings names.
Eileen McLellan de Velez, Hyde Park, MA

My MGM Joseph Aloysius McNulty is from St. John, NB. His father is Hugh andm other is Margaret Gallagher. In online NB records the name is listed as McAnulty and misspelled as McAnnlty for his brother James. The family lived on Batchelder st in Roxbury, MA. I would like to learn more about Joseph's siblings and their descendants. Sadly I only know the names of James and their sister Mary who was Sr. Philip Neri and taught music at St. Peter's School in Dorchester, MA-she died in the early 1980's.
I would dearly love to know where in Ireland they originated.
Joe's children, my mom and her sisters: Mary Joan, Eileen, and Constance have all passed away. So there is no one to ask.
Thanks! Eileen Velez, Hyde Park, MA

The name McNulty comes from the Irish Gaelic Man an Ulteigh meaning son of the Ulsterman. There are other variants Macanulty; Mcanulty, MacNulty; Nulty.

This site may be of interest as it shows the crest and some history. http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.fc/qx/mcnulty-family-cres... There are others if you google them.

Irish kilts are not name specific, but may represent an area or the whole country. Hope that helps

My great-grandfather was Thomas McNulty, born in the Irish Free States probably around 1875. He married Lillian Melville from Easton,PA. They had five children. The middle child was the only boy who is my grandfather. His name is Frank J. McNulty. The family criss-crossed the U.S. as the kids were born in either Montana, New York of North Carolina. In 1910, the family shows up in Butte, MT directories with Lillian being widowed. My mom is Frank's daughter and she grew up in Butte. She was born in 1924. I have no info on Thomas other than where he was born, who he married and that he was a tailor. I know nothing else. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
