I have a McNutt family tree written by Maud Watts McNutt and Claud L. McNutt that was started in the year 1967. There are several generations of McNutts here and I would be willing to share information with you.
According to this family tree, Andrew Jackson McNutt was my great, great, great grandfather.
The record states:
"Andrew Jackson McNutt married Mary (maiden name unknown). They left Mississippi around the years 1954 or 56' and settled in Arkansas in the Piney woods section of Cleburne County near Pearson. This is ten miles south of Heber Springs and six miles N. E. of Quitman. They had three sons, Wesley B., George, and William Pleasant McNutt".

I am a descendant of his son William Pleasant McNutt

I'm looking for any info that may link a James McNutt from NY who I'm researching to the McNutts of VA. I keep running into circumstantial evidence...his dgtr is bound out to a dressmaker in WV, his children sometimes say he was b in VA...

James married a Polly Soule of NY, and they moved to OH abt 1833; when Polly died. James went on to IL and later to MO

Anyone with VA/NY McNutt lines, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

Thomas McNutt: Bullitt County, KY (abt 1785-1850)

This thread is an updated query related to my previous post regarding Earl & Hardin McNutt of Knob Creek, KY. Since this post I have discovered new information, though am not 100% sure of its accuracy. I would like to find other sources confirming this information and pose several more questions that have arisen during my research.

Hardin McNutt: Born around 1870. Married to Rosa Miller (1871-1927)
-Children: Cecil, Earl, Hazel

The following information was derived from this website: http://files.usgwarchives.org/ky/bullitt/census/1850/1850.tx...

-Hardin McNutt is the son of Robert McNutt (1824-1899) and Martha Royalty (1848-?)

-Robert McNutt is the son of Thomas McNutt (dates unknown, though possibly between 1785-1850) and Mary Woodrow (1785-1857). It is possible that Thomas was born in Ireland, though I would need more information confirming this.

I am in need of the following information:

-Hardin McNutt: Accurate birth date, date and place of death, date and place of marriage to Rosa Miller, confirmation of his parents and other ancestors listed here, any other personal information available. Any information regarding Martha Royalty would be helpful too.

-Thomas McNutt: parents, date and place of birth, date and place of death, date and place of marriage, complete list of children, immigration information, confirmation of information listed above.

-I am also interested in a Martha McNutt (1809-?), one of Rosa Miller’s ancestors. I would like to know her parents, date and place of birth, date and place of death.
Mishie (not Michael) McNutt

There are multiple family trees on this website regarding my grandfather (Mishie Dee McNutt, b. Feb 1912)that mistakenly list his name at Michael McNutt. He was married several times, one of which was to my grandmother (Anna Pearl Maxwell, also born 1912). He sometimes went by the name Mitch McNutt but never Michael. His father was William Charles McNutt (although I have seen several references to him as Charles William McNutt). Just a little clarification to help clear up any inevitable confusion.

Re: David McNutt changed his name to McNew 1870's

Thanks for the reply. Here's what I have: David and Elizabeth's marriage date is recorded on the Russell County Genweb as 18 Jan 1864, he was listed as single although there was an option for widowed. He also listed his parents as Eliza and Elizabeth McNutt. All indications are that this is another fabrication and that his real parents were Robert and Mary McNutt. I will be looking into the earlier marriage that you spoke of to another "McNutt" perhaps a cousin?

Also I have found Ellen Monk to be Elizabeth's sister as well as Jane. Please see Russell County Genweb 1857 births. Ellen's parents are listed as James and Eliza Monk.

Not sure what ever happened to Eliza, but James Monk ended up living in Claibounre County, Tenn with his daughter Mary A. and her husband William Essary right next door to Elizabeth McNew (McNutt, Monk) and her extended family.

I think that we are convinced that Robert McNew son of David (b. 1866) was actually a McNutt and therefore his decendants as well. This is not going over well with certain McNew's that I know - genealogy is not always pretty. Now to move back and find David's real parents.

Thanks again. Kent

Hello.

Trying to find out anything I can about the circumstances surrounding David McNutt (married Elizabeth Monk abt.1864), moved from Va to Tenn (possibly through Ky) and settled in Claibourne County in the early 1870's. It was there that he "changed" his name to McNew. They somehow avoided the 1870 census and by 1880 David had passed.

Photo was taken in Decatur, IL, and he looks to be about 40. Hammond is in Piatt Co., IL.

I found John H. McNutt, in the 1900 Unity (Piatt Co.) IL census.
McNutt Y DNA Project

Wanted: participation in the McNutt / Nutt Y DNA project! This is the perfect way to further your research and determine if we are related to families with similar surnames. It will help you coordinate your research with those closely related to you.

We are in the process of gathering the lineages of those who have already participated and would like to add to the site.

For the Y DNA project you need to be a male with the McNutt surname. Those without the surname but are interested in furthering the project can donate to the general test fund or pay for the test of a McNutt male relative. To have your test results included in the project we ask that you provide a simple lineage chart starting with your first documented ancestor. No personal information is necessary.

The process is simple and is just a cheek swab – no pain, no blood. What is tested are the genetic markers passed from father to son, to son, and so on. This will give you no information on your maternal line.

Ancestry is running a ½ price special through the end of September. This is the perfect time to participate.
If you have questions, please feel free to email me at : rivermet@aol.com
Michael McNutt, married (1) Mary Jane Rhine; (2) Sarah Catherine Rhine; Pettis Co., MO

I find two marriages for Michael McNutt b. abt 1833 OH, (son of Solomon McNutt), in Pettis Co. Missouri.
1- Michael McNutt married Marah (could be Mary) Jane Rhine, 5 Sep 1855 in Pettis Co., MO. Is she the Mary J. McNutt, wife of Michael, b. 1835, d. 21 Dec 1863 - buried Hopewell Cemetery in Pettis Co., MO (Rootsweb online.)?
2- Michael McNutt married Sarah C. Rhine 18 Dec 1864 Pettis Co., MO (MO Marriage record scan).

My questions are:
Were Mary Jane Rhine and Sarah Catherine Rhine sisters?

Michael McNutt had a daughter Elizabeth McNutt. Who is her mother?
I find that other people researching this line of McNutt's show that Elizabeth is the daughter of Michael McNutt and Sarah Rhine. I feel this is a daughter of Mary J. who d. Dec 1863, not Sarah C.
Is there anyone working on these people? I would just like to put Elizabeth with her correct mother......
Elizabeth McNutt is age 6, on the 1870 census dated 24 June 1870, and age 16 on the 1880 dated 1 June 1880. These censuses in Pettis Co., MO.

Thanks for your time....... My McNutt line from Alexander> William (brother of Solomon)> Henry> Isaac Marion.
Marysue...... now in Aransas Pass, TX
I had responded to you before.
Did you receive any information from those I had suggested to you?? I do have data that was sent to me years ago and as I gleam from everything, Mary Frances Bales parents were Riley BALES and Mary Jane TOW. It is said that Mary Jane's sister was a "WOODS COLT" (Illegitimate) and also perhaps Mary Jane TOW.
Do you have this obit??
Obituary of Mary Francis (Bales) McNutt. (1911 is handwritten at top).
(Note that Death Certificate states death occured 9 Feb 1911).

On Thursday, Feb. 8th at 12:35 A.M. occured the death of Mary Francis McNutt at the Ensworth Deaconess Hospital St. Joe Missouri, where she had gone for an operation and seemed to give up and rapidly and passed away in a few hours.
Mary F. Bales was born in Mercer County Missouri, Feb. 18, 1872. At an early age she met and married John McNutt, to this union seven children were born which survive their mother. Besides her husband and family she also leaves an aged mother, two brothers and two sister to mourn her loss.
In the spring of 1903, Mr. and Mrs. McNutt and family moved on their homestead eight miles south west of Arnett where they have since resided.
Mrs. McNutt united herself to the church while quite young and she so lived when the summons came to join the innumerable caravan that moves to the pale realms of shade, where each shall take their chamber in the silent halls of death, she went and like the galley slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust she approached her grave like one who wraps the drapery of her couch about her and lies down to pleasant dreams.
Interment at the Arnett Cemetery Saturday, Feb 11 at 2 P.M.

I do not believe the other reply relates to our McNutt.
Flora McNutt b. abt 1864 KS, daughter of Jonathan McNutt and Emeline/Emaline

Flora McNutt was probably born in Franklin Co., Kansas abt 1864. Her mother died 12 Aug 1868 and is buried in Stanton Cemetery, Stanton Twp., Miami Co., KS. I think her mother's maiden may have been Sewell. I do not have the marriage record of Flora's parents. Flora McNutt's father remarried 18 Sep 1870 to Sarah Shively (which ended in a divorce several years later) I cannot find Flora on the 1870 KS Census. I do find her 1880 in Pettis Co. Missouri living with Sanford Aldridge Family. And next door Flora's father is living with his cousin Ferdinand McNutt.
There is a marriage record in Pettis Co., MO indexed as Florn E. McNutt on Ancestry.com
T. H. Phillips of Bates Co., MO, over 21yrs, to Flora E. McNutt of Pettis Co., MO over 18yrs. Married 1 May 1884 by Rev. Dr. S. H. Mead at Sedalia (Pettis Co.) MO.
I don't have any further information.
My connection is: Jonathan McNutt, was a brother to my g gf Henry McNutt.
Thanks for reading this and any bit of information would be helpful. Marysue now in Aransas Pass, TX

Re: David McNutt changed his name to McNew 1870's

Hi Kent,
I am also researching this line of McNutt's. I don't know why David decided to change his name, there is speculation that he may have committed a crime and wanted to avoid prosecution. This is the info I have on David McNutt (1840): He was first married to Malinda McNutt (dob 1845) in 1860 in Scott Co, VA. He was discharged from the military on 5/10/1861 from the 37th Virginia Infantry CSA. Malinda may have died. He married Elizabeth Monk (1846 Russell Co VA) on 1/18/1864. He then changed his name to McNew and moved. Back in 2002, I was in contact with a Ryan McNew who was also trying to find out why David changed his name. He gave me the names of David & Eliz McNew's children:

Lafayette McNew 8-14-1874

Ellen McNew 6-1857

Jane McNew 1861. I recently found her as a sister to Elizabeth not a daughter.

Robert McNew 9-17-1866

James McNew shot and killed (no dates found)

William Patton McNew 6-14-1869

George Henry McNew 4-16-1872

If you have any other info on David or any of the other McNutt's on this line, I would love to share info with you.

Lorie McNutt-Ehmer

I see that you have worked on your history for a long time. I have just begun this summer and am very confused with all the Alexander McNutts. My family, as far as I can tell started in Knox County Tenn. I would love to know if we are connected. JoAnn
