The McOuat family you're inquiring about is my family; Ellen is my great-gradmother, Gladys is my grandfather, & Ray is my uncle. I came across this message board a few years ago as well, and replied to Rick that they're my family, but never heard back from him.

Are you family also? I'm only familyiar w/this particular line of McOuat's, on down through Scotland.

Feel free to email back when you want.

Ellie

I am looking for information on George Allen McOuat. He was bn 12 Jun 1883 (unknown where, possibly Canada) and died in San Diego 17 Feb 1951. He married Ellen Alminia Farrell. They are found living in Brighton Township, Adams Co., Colorado in 1920 with two children. The children are Gladys Ellen and Ray Allen McOuat. Both children were born about 1912 and 1911 respectively. There must have been a divorce as she marries a second time after they move to California and George out lives her as she dies 1939 in San Diego. Any information would be helpful.

The originals of the letters J Elgin refers to are acutally part of another collection of McOuat/Lockerbie/Butler letters I have. Am happy to share info, as much of the family history is in my book; but am still searching, as always. Please post reply.
Barbara.

Tania,
This may be some help to you and to me. I have David McOuat (born abt 1706, Killearn parrish) married Elisabeth Harvie/Harvey, 1768 in Killearn parrish, Sterlingshire. I have 7 children for them, including William McOuat (born, Scotland, 1874; died, Indiana, 1841). Do you think there is a relationship between your William and my David? Both married Harvies. My David/Elizabeth Harvie had a daughter, Margaret, born 1875; a son, David, born 1878 in Sterlingshire. 1832 is the date that William (s/o David and Elisabeth Harvie) and his wife, Margaret Cuthbertson McOuat, immigrated to Indiana.

Dear Bill,
Yes, I know something about the building. I am a McOuat researcher of this family, as you have noticed. The building was built by Andrew and William McOuat to house the offices of their stove and tinware business in the 1800s. It was financed with funds inherited by Thomas McOuat, their father, who died in 1838. If you would like any information on this family and their relationship to Indianapolis, please write to me at bardavis3@attbi.com.
Searching through family records, I found pictures of a tombstone for a Thomas McOuat. I can send them to you.

He was born Dec. 24, 1794 in Dennylonehead, near Sterlingshire, Scotland. He died Aug. 24th, 1838 and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetary in Indianapolis.

He maried Janet Smith (born June 23, 1800 in Anderston, near Glasgow Scotland). She died Sept. 30th, 1870. She is alos buried in Crown Hill Cemetary in Indianapolis.

I believe they had at least one child, named George. I can send you a picture of a building with the name McOuat on it - not sure where it is, but it is with these photos from the States.

I don't know if that helps you.

I can send you a map of Scotland, showing where
Dennylonehead is - less than 50 km from where my ancestor was born, 25 km from where he lived and was married and only about 10 km or so from where our ancestral lands were.

They must be related in some way!

Do you have any information on who the father of Thomas was - or if he had any brothers or cousins?

My William came to Canada and settled in the Perth settlement in the Ottawa Valley (a very well known settlement for Scots in Canada) in 1842. Three others from the same area in Scotland (John, James and John - 2 brothers and a cousin) settled across the provincial border in Québec in 1816 and 1818.

Have you ever came across anything pertaining to a William?

I don't have a William for that specific date, although I, too, have several William McOuats in my line. Judging by your date, however, it would be possible that your Wm. and my Thomas could be brothers. Can you tell me anything more about your McOuat line? I'm glad to share.
I have information on a William McOuatt born in 1799, Greenock, Scotland.

Perhaps a brother or cousin to the Thomas you are looking for?

No data yet on who William's father was, though William is a name that continues to be passed down from father to son in my family each generation.

The chance that my William had a father named William (like your Thomas) is quite possible.

Have you discovered any mention of a William (born 1799) in your research?

Looking for information on the genealogy of William McOuatt (born July 15, 1799 in Greenock, Scotland). He married Jane McHaffie of Paisley, Scotland (born 1813) in the early 1830's and emigrated to Canada, circa 1842.

Any help would be appreciated.
