I'm looking for any info about the George McPeak in the 1840 Tazewell county, Illinois census. Anything about his ancestry or when he died, where he was buried etc. would be wonderful. I think he was married to Sarah (don't know her maiden name) and had kids William, Elizabeth, Leonard, Melissa, Rosanna and Zenthena. The rest of his family is in the 1850 Delaware county, Iowa census. I'm not sure whether he died in Illinois or Iowa. Thanks!

Hello,

It's been a while since you made this post but I wondered if perhaps you may know anything about this McPeak family of Philadelphia?

1850 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Census

Dwelling 1353, vistation 1886:
Bernard McPeck, Age 35, Male, Occupation: Laborer, Born in England
Bridget, Age 8, Female, Born in England
Margaret, Age 6, Female, Born in England

Same dwelling, Visitaion 1887:
Ann Bales, Age 36, Female, Born in England
Margaret, Age 13, Female, Born in England
James, Age 10, Male, Born in England
Ellin, Age 6, Female, Born in England
William McPeck, Age 60, Occupation: None, Born in England
Henry McPeck, Age 23, Occupation: Laborer, Born in England
(note, Ann Bales and both William and Henry Mcpeak give their birthplace as Ireland on all other census forms)

My interest is in Ann Bales and her children. In 1850 Ann emmigrated from England to Philadelphia after the death of her husband. They had been living in Yorkshire, England. I am trying to acertain if there is a relationship between the McPeaks and Bales. I have looked at subsequent census forms but cannot find Ann Bales with the Mcpeaks, or without for that matter. Her son James is my 2nd great-grandfather. It's hard to search the daughters as there were so many girls of their names and ages in Philadelphia at this time. I just wondered if you may have any information that would indicate Ann's maiden name may be McPeak. She was born in Ireland, county unknown, though her husband, John Bales/Bailes was from Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England.

Any help you could give would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Anna
Scott, I started looking at Colorado census and then got a brainstorm when I found Albert McPeak in Washington County where the Colpitts' lived. Checkig further, I found that your Frances actually was married to this Albert who was Hugh McPeak's father. Albert was previously married to Olive Ann Woods. Per Hugh's material, Albert was b. 12/24/1852 in Alton IL and died 2/2/1938. Olive had pre-deceased him. Apparently Frances d. 9/16/1963 and is, as you said, buried in Cope.

Hugh and Carroll McPeak have Albert's children b. in Iowa, but from the 1910 census this clearly is not the case.

That's about all I know except that Albert was grandson of William and Martha McPeak from TN.

Maureen.
He owned some swift harness horses off and on, and his exploits in the field and with prize pointers and settlers were notable.

None of these things, however, were permitted to detract from the matters at the restaurant, and his chief pride was in the type and portions of food put out by Mcpepak. A couple of generations of citizens now and then took their sustenance with W. L. Mcpeak.

Burial in the Highland Lawn Cemetery.

Wesley Mcpeak died this morning Feb 6, 1907 at this residence 518 Swan Street, age 44 years.
Scott, I looked at a list of McPeak's and only found one descendant of William and Martha who married a Frances and that was Frances Kirschner, not Sims or Colpitts. Have you researched marriage records in TN, IL, IA and CO for a record of Frances's marriage to a McPeak? That's the only avenue of research I can think of right now.
All the best, Maureen

Hi! Thank you for responding; I mostly shelved genealogy this past year but did just uncover some portraits: Addison's wife Ketturah, her mother Rebecca "Nancy" Gatts Kirkman, made about 1856, and 2 others that remain unidentified (male and female). It would be nice to get any picture of Addison's siblings for comparison. Please, let's share information.

Hi,

I am trying to track down information about the second husband of a Frances Sims (b. 1874). His last name was McPeak, and that is all the information we have about him. Frances Sims first married a William Colpitts. After he died, she married a McPeak, and then about 1940, married a Walter Moffitt, an ancestor of mine.

Both Frances Sims and William Colpitts are buried in Cope, Colorado, which I see is where Hugh McPeak was living at the time you posted.

Anyone have any information or clues as to who this McPeak was?

Sincerely,

Scott Pearson

Do you have a name?

My great aunt Mary spoke of the Sisters in the family. I am not able to delve through all of the paper right now. I will tell you what I know from memory. Maybe this weekend I can look for the cousin's address in County Derry, Ireland. I think his name is John Henry. His last name is Henry. Oral history says that Bridget McIntyre and Michael McPeak didn't live far from each other in Ireland but only met once they came here to America. In my pedigree chart I have Michael's parents as Thomas McPeak and Rose Keenan. But I am not sure about her last name. I have Bridget's parents names as William McIntyre and Jane Kearney. Not sure of the Kearney spelling.

Rose Keenan's parents were James Keenan and Rosana Crozier. Again, I have not been able to verify the spelling.

As far as William or John William McPeak was called Bill. He fought in WWI and brought TB back to the family. He died in his early 30's from TB. Virginia Anna, called Anna, also died of TB at 20. Sarah Elizabeth, my grandmother, died of TB, I think at 36 but I would have to check. They are all buried next to each other in the St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.

That is all I have time for now.

Laura

What is your name and how are we related?
I did most of my research 23 years ago when I was young and without children. It is all on paper not on the computer. I keep saying that when I retire I will do more but it is just one of the things on my list.

I briefly cooresponded with a distant cousin who still lived on the farm in Northern Ireland where Bridgit MacIntyre immigrated from. I don't know if he is still living since he did not respond to my last letter some six years ago.

I do not belong to ancestry.com since I don't have time to do genealogy just now. I have always been able to use their message boards even without being a member. If you don't want to share personal information then we could continue to coorespond this way.

By the way, which father has a different name? What name did I give you? When I have time to go through my papers perhaps I can clear that up. I do have Sarah and Walter's sibs and pictures.

Laura

Yes, we can exchange information. Sarah Elizabeth McPeak was my grandmother. She married Walter Leo O'Connor also from Savannah. Sarah was the oldest child of Michael and Bridget. Sarah and Walter had four children--three survived. The first was a stillborn daughter. My mother was the oldest surviving child, Jane Anna b. 1922; then Barbara Eugenia b. 1924; and William b. 1926. They are all deceased. I'm not sure what information you would like to have. Each of us gathers information differently. Let me know.

Laura

We have most of your McPeak Family Tree from this area but primarily dates of birth and death, etc. from Churches, USA Census, Naturalizations and living family members' memories. I could send you the Family Tree Maker's vr 6 Descendant Report of the Parents that we have - who apparent stayed in Ireland: William McPeak and Rose Keenan.
That would be a .PDF file that you could print out in Adobe Acrobat Reader - a free download.

You had a different first name for their father. Our source was a Living Member of McPeak Family's Baby Book. What was your source? I don't have the International - only USA ancestry for a month. Do you have the International ancestry?

Do you have the Family Tree Maker? If so, you could send me the .pdf files of Family Pages for the original Michael & Bridget McPeak Family, Sarah & Walter O'Connor's Family and her sibblings who went west if you have theirs. I could look at yours and send you information on the living ones and those who lived in this area of NY.

Between us we should be able to fill in the picture. Thanks loads!!

Sister Katherine McPeak and her first cousin, Sister Margaret McPeak, both are from my home parish, St. Patrick's, Jordan, NY. Three of our grandparents came from the same area in County Derry, Bellaghy, N. Ireland. We've all been working on it together.

Would love to know where Bridget came from in Ireland; can you tell me without a big hastle?

On 1900 US Census in Jordan, NY William, their son is listed and on later US Census, he seems to become John William McPeak. A daughter also, Virginia A become Anna Virginia later.

We're about done with research and someone plans to go to Ireland this October. Go on line to National Library of Ireland for the 4 *.pdf files describing them by diocese, parishes within and dates of various records.
Hello Laura -- my name is Mike Norton. I'm the grandson of Sarah McIntyre, sister of Bridget McIntyre McPeak. I recently visited your/my cousins in Derry. You are correct, John Henry is the cousin you're thinking of. He and his wife live in the house (Roadside House) where Sarah and Bridget lived. My wife and I had tea with them! The better contact is John's sister Rosemarie Kilpatrick, to whom you wrote the letter outlining your family tree some years ago. Rosemarie had lost the envelope with the return address, which is why you did not get a response. But she shared the letter with me on our visit -- it was the source for me of the info on the McPeaks, which is now posted on ancestry.com in my tree. Only recently did I drop a line to Rosemarie's daughters to tell them who you were (your letter was signed "Laura" but it was a little difficult to figure out exactly who you were). If you would like to contact me directly, you can email me at mnortonstn@aol.com. Then I can send you an "invite" to view my tree here on ancestry.com (it's open only to family).
Kind regards,
Mike Norton

I am not sure if you have your information from this message or not, but I have an answer for you. The parents of Charles Sylvester McPeak are Archelous McPeak (1847-1881) and Amanda Jane Smith McPeak (1853 - still looking). I hope this helps!

When dealing with our ancestry that far back, documentation is the key in confirming names and dates. As for the descendents of James McPeak, born Ireland, who came to America in 1772 as an indentured servant (I have his indenture release record),I have only documented two sons. William, born about 1762, who I descend from, and Ezekiel(spelling varies), who I believe was born about 1760. I have not seen any record for a third son named James. Families at that time usually had at least five children. It would seem reasonable to assume there were more children other than William and Ezekiel, but I have not uncovered any records to prove it. The other question is where were Ezekiel and William born. I have two theories; one suggests they were born in County Londonderry, where the McPeaks originate from, or possibly Anson County, NC, where records of McPeaks exist at the time they were born. I have plenty of documentation if you care to recieve it. If you will respond with an e-mail address I will be glad to send you what I have. I am curious where you came across a third son named James?

I am very interested in furthering the conversation you are having here. I am a McPeek relative in Canada - a greatgrandaughter of James Alvin McPeek (Ezekiel's line). If you are still interested, please contact me at: cjanzen@yourlink.ca
