John Henry McQuarrie was born June 19, 1856. Birthplace indicatated by others is Menominee, Michigan. However, he filled out first papers in 1890 indicating that he was not a citizen. He died before filing final papers. My guess is that he was born in Canada in that he "..renounce allegiance to the Queen of Great Britain." I can find no primary records from birth to 1885 when he married in Washington Co. Minnesota. He died in Minneapolis in 1897.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the explanation re: Lot. Today, I printed out the 1901 census for Lot 65 and that seemed like an awful lot of people squashed in one lot!!!

On the 1901 census I have found a whole bunch of Mcquarries at Lot 65.

My relative, Frank Aldridge, is living with Donald McQuarrie, born April 10 1856, age 45 and his wife Janet McQuarrie, born July 12 1856, age 45. Frank Aldridge is listed as their adopted son, age 11. There are no other children listed but maybe they have older children who have moved away. I'm wondering if they adopted Frank because they were childless?

Is this your Donald? Do you know of any other children?

Thanks for your help.
Perhaps this will explain lot nos.
A Lot is the same as a township. In PEI they were about 20,000 acres each
and were granted as part of a lottery hence the term 'Lot'.
Lot 30 includes Bonshaw and most of Riverdale and the West or Elliot river
runs thru Lot 30. Riverdale is on the boundary with Lot 65 so a parcel in
Riverdale could be in either 30 or 65.
Land records are generally indexed by Lot/township

But lot #'s 30 and 65 are significant locations in my family history. Any mention of Osborne or Murray surnames in your search. My Donald had 3 siblings all stayed in or about lot 30 , I wil check but I think 65 is adjacent to 30
Tom

Thank you again for your efforts and interest! As you can imagine it is quite discouraging to search for years without finding any fact. I only know that he was of Scottish descent, born June 19, 1856 and a skilled carpenter. He died in Minneapolis aat the age of 41. His son was named John (of course!)William McQ.
Thanks, Marilyn

I have a book of Robert Burns' poems, inscribed "H. E. McQuarrie, Belfast, 1881" in a good cursive hand. According to family mythology it belonged to my great-grand aunt.
I'm a Tilbury, descended also from James Rutherford b. 1835/6 Scotland.
Despite all my attempts to date I have no trace either of this McQuarrie, or of my Rutherfords whose marriage I cannot find (they may have had military associations).
Any suggestions as to how I might identify H. E. McQuarrie gratefully received.
Thank you - Caroline

Sullivan in Lowell Ma. (my great grandparents). Their other children include James MacQuarrie, Daniel MacQuarrie, Florence (Mac or McQuarrie) MacDonald and Mary (Mac or McQuarrie) MacDougall. Not sure why name spelling changed but listed this way in my G.Grandfather's obituary. Any information would be appreciated.

Just starting my research. I am looking for information about George Chester McQuarrie. Born 3 Mar 1894, Seville, Florida. Registured for WWI (I have requested copies of military records). Married Ellie Mae Lewis. He died either in train accident, or drunk and hit a tree/pole.

His father is George C. McQuarrie. There is a civil war pension record with the same name, which I am requesting copies of as well.

Rumor is, at some point a boy/man came from Sweden, and lived with the McQuarrie's. He liked them so much that he took their name for his own. I am searching for this connection.
