McQuillan with Australia and Irish connections

Surnames: McQuillan, Dixon
I am looking for information about William McQuillan but have little information about him or about our Irish Conection.
My father was Allen McQuillan born 1923 in New Zealand he died in 2001; his father was Charles Roy McQuillan born 1897 in Australia died in 1960 in New Zealand.
His father was Charles McQuillan born in Auckland (According to Charles Roy's birth certificate but I'm not sure which country) died in New Zealand 1946.Charles married in Australia; on a bad copy of Charles marriage Certificate which has since disappeared it said his parents were William and Elizabeth McQuillan, possibily nee Dixon, but I have no idea where they were born or when.
My mother has Dad's bog wood shilelagh which was past down from father to son but to date I can't find exactly where William came from.
