I am a descendant of their son James who immigrated to Australia at 18. I have a copy of the family tree listing all decendants from his marriage to Catherine (Kate) Zeller up to and including myself. I know that James' father John was born in 1810 and that Mary was born in 1814 and they were married in 1832 in Ireland.

I would be happy to share and compare any of this information with you and am interested in finding out where John came from and tracing this tree further back. my email is kim_jordan@aapt.net.au

Hi Caroline,

I wanted to provide you with some additional information in case it would assist your relatives in Co. Louth Patrick and Margaret McQuillan, of County Louth, had the following children: Mary Ann (Born 1828) Andrew (Born: ca. 1832, Died: ca December 1867), Ann (Born: ca. 1838, Died: ca. 1872), Margaret (Born: November 1839, Died: April 8, 1909), and Julia (Born: ca 1845, Died: October 15, 1918). There are two additional sibling possibilities: Elizabeth (Born: ca. 1831, Died: December 13, 1848) and Charles (Born: ca. 1846). The supposition that Elizabeth and Charles are additional siblings is based solely on conjecture. These two were traveling with Mary Ann on her trip to the United States in 1849. Elizabeth and Charles' respective ages also fit nicely into the McQuillan family, along with my assumptions surrounding the shipping records described above. It would be exciting if anyone in your family could provide information to help my search. I haven't made much progress in quite some time. Thanks again for your help!
Andy O'Neil

Hi Caroline,
Thank you for your very generous offer. I would greatly appreciate if you could inquire with your relatives from Co. Louth re: my McQuillan ancesters. I really don't have any other information to offer other than that which was included in my original post. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help with the inquiry. Again, thank you for your help. I'll cross my fingers until I hear back from you.
Andy O'Neil

Hi. My name is Jim McQuillan, born Scotland, near the city of glasgow Clydebank. Iam retired now and living in Spain. I my sojourns through France I happened upon a little French Town, Called Quillan, it,s near foix deep down in the south west. So there might be a connection there!!! leading on to a religious heritic sept called the Cathars. THey have a fascinating history, and were percecuted almost to extinction by the Pope and a very jealous king of France, Philip The Fair. Worth researching as my theory is that the Mcq's fled to Scotland or Ulster around the time Scotland and England were at war with each other culminating with the battle of Bannock Burn, Stirling, with an English defeat.
