Daniel McRaney married Nancy Ann Graves Covington Co MS

Seeking ancestors of Daniel McRaney born abt 1812 in SC.

I’ve seen his father listed as either Kenneth or as Malcolm; his mother as either Mary or Elizabeth. Daniel was married to Nancy Ann Graves. The line I am following is their son George W. [b 1841 MS] who married Effie Davis [b 1846 MS],daughter of Henry Davis and Catherine McCraney. Records I have found show George and Effie were the parents of William Neal/Neil McRaney who married Rosetta (Rosa) Miller, daughter of John H and Margaret Miller. Does anyone have a copy of any of the above families’ wills?

My step-great grandson is a descendent of Neal and Rosetta. He has family history in school this year and I am trying to help prove his McRaney line.

Thanks to anyone who can help, as I have gotten very confused on this line.
Mary Craighead Nolte
Picayune MS
Cecil, I see that you have been talking with my cousin, Darryl over the last period of time. I just wanted you to know that Darryl was killed in a motorcycle accident in Sept. There is an article at www.topix.net/content/cbs/0797008728041529730709565056963674... He was actually only 53 not 63 as the article had mentioned. It probably has been 30 years since I last saw him.

Peace be with you,
Ronald D McRaney
Pearl was my grand-father, P.L. my father. I have most of the line if you need any of it.

Good Morning Darryl,
Merry Christmas to you. Thank you very much for the crest. I notice that they are quite similar. I think, along the years, a few drawings have changed it a little but it is the same crest, and the same motto. Right now I am quite busy baking for my family who will descend upon my home in a few hours but I very much want to get back to you. I have two web sites dealing with the Cranney/Craney/McRaney surname and my own family history. Tonight I will send you the links.
Thank you so much for contacting me.
Regina

I am seeking information on Robert C. McRaney, Jr. who died in Alaska approximately 6-8 years ago. He had a brother named Jimmy, who was killed in California by a drunk driver. They're father was Robert (Mac) McRaney who married Elizabeth Carpenter. She was first married to a man named Grady. I believe Robert (Mac)'s family was based in Mississppi. I am asking for my fiance, Shawn, who is Robert Jr.'s son. His mother will tell him nothing about his Dad or the McRaney family and he's eager to know about that part of his family. Thank you!

I've seen a lot of posts that indicate that there was a large clan of McRaney's in Covington Co. in the 1800s, so I'm sure they're connected. However, I don't see any reference to my ancestor.

Alameda Coulter McRaney married Henry Hamel Bullock in 1865. They were both from Covington County, and remained there. Their daughter, Frances Elmira Bullock is my ancestor.

Would appreciate any information on who Alameda's parents were.

I know a lot about the McRaney's.My grandmother and her extended family had a family tree book professionally made that covered the family ancestry back toScottland and then back till Constantine. One of my cousins in Louisiana has it. I have been trying to locate that cousin. I do not know thier name. My grandmother knew who it was but she is passed away. If you know of any cousins in that area, let me know who they are, I will contact them and ask.
again I appollogize for the previous emails.

Sorry CCecil, been busy and had just been able to clean up over 1500 emails and saw your message. I thought I had answered back about a month ago, but time slips by when your busy and trying to stay dry from these floods in south Calif. If you have read my message about Pearl, I mentioned most of his sons. Pearl and one of his sons, Russell and his wife Lyda Mae lived next to each other on the northwest side of Collins about 3 blocks from Hwy 49. Also Gerald McRaney's (the actor) Parents used to live on the east side of Collins before passing on about 2 to 3 years ago. Gerald is related to me as a second cousin in generation. I believe that there are other McRaneys related to my family and I would very much appreciate any info to any cousins, aunts and uncles that are related. I have been in touch with some other relations, such as the Cambells that may have more information of the McRaneys comming from the north and settling in the Carolinas and the Geogia areas. My goal is to get af family tree mapped out from my generation all the way back to Malcomb and his family from Jara and Isly Islands in Scotland. I hope this helps out and thank you for any names and dates of family members. Darryl A. McRaney, mac53d@netscape.net

Hello Again. I recieved an email from Darryl McRaney, stating we
were cousins. But when I ask for information to verify he truly was a McRaney from Collins MS, I got no replies after that. My Great Aunt is Grace McRaney, she still operates a small store in Collins MS at the age of 98. I used to go play on her farm when I was a small boy. Most of the McRaney's in Collins are related. I can even
put him in touch with current cousins with the name McRaney from Collins. But like said I ask for any information that could verify for me that he truly is from there and not someone playing games, and I never got a reply. I guess he wasn't real, for all you folks trying to help him. On my mothers side great aunts I have
two different aunts who married McRaney's in Collin, back in the
early 1900's.

Hello Darryl;
I sent you personal email directly to you. But for the interest of everyone else reading. After I saw the conversations before, the McRaney's are Scottish, but remember in earlier years the population of Scotland is much much smaller than today. Many of the Clans in power intermarried to maintain control of the land and power. It is very possible that McRaney's mariied directly into the MacDonald. My Great Aunts (Campbell's) married McRaney's in the US so, Decendants of them have Campbell blood, and back in
Scotland MacDonalds married into the Campbells more than once.
It is very diffficult to trace exactly. The easiest way to research is to research the history of each castle. Campbell's built most of them but different Clans had control of them at different times through marrage. The scottish have pretty good records on the history of families in each each castle. good luck.

Hello cousin, Pearl was my great grandfather who lived in Collins next to one of his sons, Uncle Russell and Lyda Mae. I took care of him in 1968 when he was 90 years old. Grand Pa Pearl had six sons and Grady Shivers McRaney was my grandfather. Gerald is my second cousin from my uncles. It would be nice if I could get a listing of the family tree. I understand that there may have been a General Montgomery in our clan. I'm trying to get the line back to the Atlantic crossing. My theory the family tree started out from the northern Scottish Islands. If Aunt Grace can still remember the family names from long ago or has some history written, it would help. All 5 uncles and my granfather are gone and it is getting harder to find the family. Thanks, Darryl McRaney in California, mac53d@netscape.net

Hi Ronnie, You are right, I do not believe that I know of or met Larue or Woodrow McRaney. Now Homer McRaney lived in Lubbock, TX and may have married for a year or two before he died. When I met him, he liked to go out to the bars. He used to be a machinist and had his own polishing wheel that he designed to polish pump gears and plates. He was pretty much a loner and did not keep in touch with him or his family. If you know of the family or of Larue or Woodrow, Have them give me a holler or email me at mac53d@netscape.net. I'm trying to get everybody in the family tree listed. Thanks, Darryl McRaney

Hi Regina, Its been some time since I looked at the message boards, and came across some of the replies. I have done some research while over in England, in the Air Force, and I may be wrong, because I don't have positive proof of my clan. I have found that McRaney, MacRainey, and other variants may have come under the Clan Randald, which may also be Mac Randald or Mac Crandald. This line is also from the Clan Mac Donald which is also from the same islands that you mentioned, Jura and Islay. The Crest that I was given shows a different shield and has a crane, standing wolf, and elephent, with an arm raised sword above it for Clan Randald. I am sending an attachment of the crest I had made. Darryl McRaney

I can't give you their email because they did not post it publicly on the internet and want to respect that but after I get a chance to compare notes with that person, I will fill you in on the details. apparently this person was reading our emails on this site.
Cecil Roberts

Her first name is Gwenevier but can not remember her last name, probably Boots, or Brooks. Her husband is the famous Bass Guide down there and has articles in Bass Magazine. He does guiding in the channels of Baton Rouge for bass tournaments. I hope this may be the same cousin that you are talking about. If so please email me back with her address and phone number so that I can catch up on family. Thanks, Darryl

Hello Darryl,
My name is REGINA CRANNEY and I have done extensive research (with the help of a genealogist) into my CRANNEY family. I have found that my g-g-grandfather, Luke Cranney, immigrated from Northern Ireland and settled in Albany, NY in 1870. His father was JAMES CRANEY - notice the spelling difference. I have been able to trace the family to the late 1600s in Ireland but was unable to go further back until about three months ago. I found that the name CRANNEY is/has been spelled many different ways. Originally we all came from the Sept MacCrane (McCrain) of the Clan MacDonald from the Isles of Jura and Islay in Scotland. Our sept fought side by side with Braveheart against the English. In the early 1600s a few of the MacCrane clan migrated to Northern Ireland and, at first, settled in County Armagh. Some of my distant relatives still live there. My own part of the clan went to County Down, Townland of Corgary, where they still reside today. Our Coat of Arms for CRANNEY/CRANEY/CRANNY/CRANIE is the exact same coat as the one for the McCrain/MacCrain/McCrane/McCrain Sept of the Clan MacDonald. I wrote to the president of the MacDonald Clan in America and explained what information I had found. He verified that ALL SPELLINGS originally came from MacCrane and, as part of the Clan MacDonald, we have the legal right to wear the tartan of that clan and the badge and crest. If you need any more information on our clan please contact me. I also have a website through MyFamily.com for "The Cranney Clan". I hope this information helps you at least a little.
Regina Cranney
New York
P.S. I attached a copy of our Coat of Arms for your information. If you have a copy of your Coat I am almost sure you will see that they are alike.

I am one linage of many who is looking at my family tree prior to 1880. My g - grandfather was Pearl McRaney b. 17 Sep 1880, who had six sons, JP McRaney, b.07 Apr 1916, Grady McRaney, b.05 apr 1910, Russell R. McRaney, b. 23 Jan 1907, Homer McRaney, b. 02 Sep 1908, and the other two I have forgotten. Grady McRaney is my grandfather and has two boys, Grady Shivers McRaney who lives near Jackson,MS and Charles Lane McRaney who lives Near Elko,NV. I Darryl A. McRaney, am the oldest of four children of Charles McRaney and second cousin to Gerald McRaney, The actor. I also have a cousin from JP McRaney, Ronnie or Ronald who had served in the Air Force as I have. I am trying to find out who Pearl's father and grand father are, so that I can get closer to my family tree in the 1700's. Rumor has it that my family came over from Scotland, possibly Jara or Skye and settled in N. Carolina. The families later split with a possible name spelling change. one family stayed in the Carolinas and the other (McRaney) went to Georgia and on to Mississippi during the late 1700's to early 1800's. Any info is greatly appreciated. Mac53d@netscape.net

I'm especially interested to know their connection to the McCrainies on the Isle of Jura.
In the 1850 Robeson Co., NC census John "McRainey," 24, and his wife Florah, 19, are living in the household of John's father, Malcolm McRainey, age 66, born in Scotland. I believe this Malcolm is the older brother of my 3rd great-grandfather Norman "McRaney," (b. abt 1790, "Isle of Skye, Scotland) who married a Catherine "McRainey" abt 1819 in Robeson County and migrated to GA shortly thereafter. (My g-g-grandmother, Ann McRaney, was born abt. 1820/21 in NC, all other children were born in GA.) Any information you have on this family would be appreciated. I'd also be interested in your notes on the different spellings of the name. I'd be happy to share what information I have, such as it is.

I have two Harold McRaneys in my database but no wives for either and only one with his parents identified. I would appreciate any information your grandmother might remember. It would also be wonderful if you had photos you could share - I would happily reimburse your costs for scanning them.

I am researching this tree for a neighbor, John Kelly McRaney, Jr., who has many relatives in Covington County, MS. It is very likely that you grandmother knew his father and probably many of his cousins.

Thank you for your help.
