I'm trying to trace a Hugh Francis McSorley who lived in Western Australia from at least the 1890s to approx 1940. I've had no luck finding out where he came from and have been focussing on Scottish origins, since his last house (sadly now demolished) had beautiful carved thistle woodwork. Does anyone have a Hugh in their family who either disappeared pre-1890 or definately went to Australia? Or possible parents heading to Australia? As far as I can see from this end the records during the goldrushes for people heading to the goldfields are sketchy to say the least - I don't think the beaurocrats were prepared for such an influx!
