Hi Mick -
Ron Dale at Ballymaguin roots was great enough to invite me to join their website comparing notes on families from Northern Ireland. Other members have helped me to discover great things about the McTague family. I could ask Ron to send you an invitation if you would like.

I found out that my Great Grandfather, Patrick McTague was born in Magherafelt to James McTague and Margaret McLaughlin. They lived on Carraloan Road. His Mom died in 1879 the year after he was born. James McTague lived on Ballynagarve Road. His parents were James McTague and Eliza Morgan. He had I believe 9 siblings (Robert, John, Henry, Robert, Hugh, Elizabeth, Frances and two Mary Annes both of whom died in infancy. They all immigrated to the US in the late 1800s. They settled in Wakefield, Massachusetts - the next town to where I live now.
Does anyone sound familiar??

Donna (McTeague) Sadoski

Hi Donna,
Sorry for the delay in answering your query, I have been away and my laptop was hacked.

I would very much like to compare notes, I have been trying to trace family for some time without success, I now believe part of the family went to the U.S. but have no idea which part so it would be appreciated if you could shed some light on my predicament.
Kind regards
Mick.

Patrick McTague and wife Mary Jane Murtha

Looking for Patrick McTague - born in Ireland who married Mary Jane Murtha.
They were the parents of my grandmother Elizabeth, born December 19, 1882
in Brooklyn, New York. Baptized on December 20th.

My grandmother was, according to my early memories of talks with her, one of 14 children - not all of whom made it to adulthood. My mother, her only daughter Virginia, often spoke fondly about her Aunt Mamie, who was her mother's (Elizabeth) sister. Although most later documents spell the name as
McTague - her baptismal record lists it as Elizabeth McTag, father Patrick McTag, Mary Jane Murtha, and sponsors John Joseph McTag and rosa Loretta McTag.
Any information would be greatly appreciated - maternal side of my search has been stymied!

Yes it certainly does, I think my GGrand father had a brother called Robert and James is also in the family, as Magherfelt is a very small area it,s possible there is a connection, my family came from Dreenan and possibly have connections with Port Glenone in Northern Ireland, we believe they were farmers.

My grandfather was Frank McTague from Plymouth, PA. He was married to Maxine Owens and they had two children, Katherine McTague Brunza and Edward McTague. Katheine is my aunt and Edward is my father. I have family in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Deleware that I know of. My name is Jennifer McTague. I have two brothers Eric McTague and Jared McTague and a niece Lindsay Ann McTague. My mother's name is Debra Yerger McTague. I know of a cousin who is my dad's cousin Tommy's son. We all live here in Pennsylvania. My dad has also found relatives in England and I believe Ireland where I believe that our ancestry is from. This is so exciting to find other McTagues and to meet them and see how far our ancestry goes.

Hi, Doesn't really help with your quest - but
Searching the Online White Pages Directory MyTelus.com finds 83 McTAGUE surnames - Nationwide - Canada.
Alberta:5, British Columbia:12,New Brunswick: 6
Nova Scotia 5. Ontario43, PE.9 . Quebec 2 Sask.1.

The registration of death for your Grandfather will show his correct given name. Marriage Registration will show his correct given name.

Your nan kept in touch with the Canadian side til 1989.
Do you have letters/ cards/ envelopes - address books - that will show the location of the Canadian family - perhaps names married into the McTAGUE side.

Cheers, Stella

I saw your post from 2003 saying that you were looking for information on a Bridget McTague. I also am looking for information on one. I'm not sure if it would be the same one or not, and about the only information that I have on mine is that she was born around 1830 in Ireland, immigrated to the United States (to Norfolk/Portsmouth, Virginia specifically), that she married a man named Stephen F Casey, and had seven children: Ellen, Thomas, Martin, Bridget, Stephen, James, and Patrick. The information that I have spells the surname as McTeige, but it may have been changed from McTague upon entering the United States. If you know of any information that may be helpful, please let me know. Thank you.

Hello Robert
My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth McTague bn 07/07/1926 Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Her father was Michael McTague who married an Alice Stringer 1926 Rotherham i believe that Michaels Father was also another Michael but not 100% certain, i know they originated from Ireland but not sure where. Carrickfergus has been mentioned but not confirmed.
But it seems that the McTagues originate from Lietrim so hoping you can help.
Regards
Mick Ward

I recently found additonal documents that lists Patrick's last name as McTigue. Upon further review of the land records I have I feel that this is indeed the correct spelling of his last name. If you have any information you can share on this individual I would be grateful. I now know he was born about 1811 and had at least seven children with his wife, Lavina. They lived in South Abington Twp from 1842 to 1860 - possibly some years after that - although I know that by 1865 Patrick had died. I am looking into the possibility that he died in the Civil War, but can't find conclusive evidence of that although I did come across one record of a Patrick McTigue having served from Pennsylvania.

I know that Patrick McTague or P. Tague (as he is listed on some documents) purchased land in South Abington Twp in 1842. I also found a document that is a land deed for that same property in South Abington Township, Luzerne County, (now Lackwanna County), PA. Patrick McTauge had passed away and his land in Abington was being sold by the administrator of his estate, H.V. Hall. It lists his wife as Mrs. or Mia? McTague. It lists his children as Ann, John, Isaac, Thomas, Peter & Sarah. The document is dated November 13, 1865 so he was deceased by this time. It also says that four of his children were 'minors', so he may have died young. A search through military records for a Patrick McTague, found a soldier from Pennsylvania who enlisted in the Union Army in 1861 and died in 1862 in battle at Fredricksburg, MD. That is all the information I have.

I need to add here that I just found a land document that lists Patrick McTague's widow as Mia or Mrs. Tauge (illegible) and lists his children as Ann, John, Isaac, Thomas, Peter & Sarah. The document is dated November 13, 1865. So he was deceased by that time. It does say that four of his children were 'minors', so he may have died young. I did search military records and found a Patrick McTague who served in the Civil War (Union Side) from Pennsylvania. He enlisted in 1861 and died in 1862 in battle in Fredricksburg, MD.

I am looking for any information on a Patrick McTague or Tague who was living in what was then Luzerne County, PA (now Lackawanna County) in the mid 1800's.
Bill, I saw your post on the McTague family here on rootsweb and I am interested in the McTague family because my husband and I bought a property and home just outside of
Scranton that was owned by a Patrick McTague/Tague in the 1840's. The house is very old and I have documentation that Patrick lived here for about 20 years. I know nothing about him and wonder if there is a connection to your McTagues. Does your family tree go back to that time in the 1800's and include a Patrick who may have been living around here? you may email me directly at jmanwarren@gmail.com
Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated!
Julie

You see I,am looking for my Great Grand Fathers sister, Bridget (1832-1924) her father was called Peter who moved from Ulster to the US in the 1800s, he was married to a lady called Anne Keelan (we think), we also have a long IRA history and I wondered if the above Peter was a relative.

Mick.

county Mayo possible lighthousekeeper

I believe the Tighe's, McTighe's I'm looking for are from County Mayo Ireland. Patrick's death cert. lists his birth as November 25th 1826 and his parents as Patrick McTighe and Mary Gaughan. A distant cousin provided some information. 1. Patrick Tighe married Catherine Padden August 16th 1865. Sponsors were listed as John Mannion and Mary Monahan. Their residence is listed as Ballyglass. 2. A child, Michael John (or John Michael) was listed as baptised/born? on June 17th 1866 to Pat and Catherine. Address listed as Ballyglass. Godparents listed as Anthony Padden and Bgt. Padden. 3. A child, Rose Ellen (or Ellen Rose) was listed as baptised/born on August 25th 1867 to Pat and Catherine. (spelled Tigue that time) Address listed as Black Rock. Godparents listed as Michael Gaven and Ellen Divine. We have found them on the 1880 US census in Pennsylvania under Tighe and on the 1900 census under McTighe. The 1900 census states they immigrated in 1870. There are various different family stories and speculations as to whether Patrick was a lighthouse keeper. Also we have a story of Jon Michael Tighe being born at sea, and one that they were on their way to the US while she was pregnant with John/Michael and turned around and went back, he then being born in Irish waters. There was also speculation of a child who died at sea on the trip over. That may have been Rose/Ellen? There is also speculation that when they immigrated they left John/Michael behind. He is not listed with them on the 1880 census. We have not been able to locate the 1870 census yet. There is also speculation that when they came in 1870 without John/Michael they later returned to visit? or get him?
Any help on the above or on Tighe's in Mayo please get in touch. Nae80Queen@aol.com.
Renee
