Hi, I am also trying to find info on Hannah McWiliams and Richard Hall, its for my Uncle (by Marriage) tree, I have managed to find them in the 1861 census - living as a married couple before they actually married with a Daughter called Elizabeth, it says Hannah was born in England and Richard in Scotland. I have their Sons' (David St Vincent Halls) birth certificate it says that his mother Hannah Hall had two different surnames before her marriage, the certificate say Hannah Hall late Woodroffe formally McWilliams - I presume that means she married a Woodroffe before Richard Hall but she did marry under the name McWilliams - I am guessing from the info you have that you have a copy of the marriage certificate, does it mention the name Woodroffe or if she was a widow? Its very frustrating trying to find any more info but I do know they must of both been dead by 1881 as their Son David is in a Industrial School for Roman Catholic orphaned boys in London. Sorry I have nothing else to share with you.

My mom's paternal grandfather, John McWilliams, left Derry about 1869. He's in Phila. in the 1870 U.S. Census. John Bradley (married Elizabeth Blaney in Phila.), who may be the brother of John McWilliams' mother, Margaret Bradley, shows up in Phila,. around 1852.

James Blaney, who married Jane McWilliams in Ireland, (who may be John McWilliams' aunt) is in the 1850 U.S. Census in Phila. Several of his children arrived in Phila. on 7/28/1845 along with Edward Dagney and Rose Blaney Dagney (James' sister). Edward's son Bernard is a witness at John McWilliams' Phila. marriage in 1876.

I haven't been able to pin down a hometown for any of this bunch.
A couple more things now that we've dug more into the family tree.

Ann was born in Ireland.

However something is strange bcs we don't have any record of Henry or James Henry McWilliams as sons of James and Ann... Their children's names are Lizzie 1862, John V 1863, Joseph 1864, and Annie McWillams 1865, Patrick 1866 (my great grandfather).

James McWilliams died in 1866 2 days after Patrick was born and Anne raised the children by herself and opened a boarding house in Sherbrooke.

John V married Eva Dunn and they had Eileen McWilliams as their only daughter.

However, other than that there is pretty much no other info on this John V McWilliams...

So I'm wondering who this other mother is that was listed on James Henry's birth certificate Mary Bryant. She's nowhere on the tree...I"m wondering if this is the missing key?

Or maybe James Henry is son to one of James McWilliams brothers?

I believe he came to Missouri from possibly Pennsylvania stopping to have a baby in Indiana. One of his daughters was named India Anne.

If he is the one you are inquiring about, I hope to hear from you.

Hi- (5 years after your post!)
I think your Eulan was my grandfather Eulan Otis Butler.
His father was William Riley Butler.
His mother was Katy Hanna Woods who died in Brownfield Tx in 1938.

William Riley Butler didn't die until 1946. They had eight children, the last 3 or 4 were born in Indian Territory, OK.
Maybe she left him, he had some emotional issues according to things my father told me.

This info is available at the onegreatfamily website.

If there is this connection please let me know or write me back anyway. I'm currently trying to document Native American heritage through the Butlers.

Looking forward to your response,
W. Butler

I am replying for my mother, who is on vacation at the moment. It was nice to receive your message. I have attached a few photos of Emmett (in hopes it is the Emmett you mentioned). I have little information regarding the McWilliams. My great-grandfather James McWilliams immigrated to the United States in the late 1800s. What few facts we have are listed below (there are a lot of men with the name of James):

The parents of great-grandfather James were: James McWilliams (son of James McWilliams and Bridgit Flanigan) who married Ann Coveny (daughter of Joseph Coveny and Mary OLary) on August 8, 1853 in Sainte-Bibiane (Town of Richmond, District of Le Val Saint Francois).

We believe great-grandfather James had a brother named Henry. Henry McWilliams (son of James McWilliams and Ann Coveny) married Eva Bell Dunn (daughter of Frederic Dunn and Malvina Huckis on May 17, 1918 in Saint Michel (Town of Sherbrooke, District of Sherbrooke).

We believe great-grandfather had a sister named Eileen. Eileen McWilliams (based on a correspondence)at one time lived at 35 Rue Covent Street, Sherbrooke.

We believe Emmett was a nephew of great-grandfather James (based on the photos attached).

I have also attached two photos of great-grandfather James.

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Dan

DeKalb Co., GA - McWilliams and Terrell Families of Georgia - John McWilliams b. Ireland

I'm finding quite a few Trees which contain John McWilliams b. abt 1780 in Ireland/d. abt 1866 in DeKalb County, GA. but none (as yet) that contain a son by the name of "James". This John did have a son, John G. McWilliams, who named one of his sons "James".

I believe there was a connection between this John McWilliams family and the William Terrell family also living in Dekalb County, GA circa 1830 to 1850.

Online sources hint at a family feud between the McWilliams and Terrell families of DeKalb County, Georgia in the late 1840s. Court documents and newspaper accounts exist concerning "William Terrell" being tried for the murder of "James McWilliams" in 1848, DeKalb Co., GA. (the murder, I believe, happened in 1847 but William Terrell wasn't tried until 1848 (?)) James Terrell was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to four years hard labor.

Does anyone have more information concerning this event or the two men involved in it?

Thanks for listening.
