Enos MEAD/Martha VALENTINE

I am trying to tie my Mead line to those in the "The history and genealogy of the Mead family" by Spencer Mead as I feel sure they are connected. I have Hezekiah MEAD(b.02 March 1792in New York), married Charlotte MILLER, in 1814. He died 07 June 1869, in Jefferson, Ohio. Parents of Hezekiah Mead: Enos MEAD (b.30 June 1764) and Martha VALENTINE, married 1787. I do not know the correct parents for Enos MEAD. Family tradition has them as Jonathan MEAD and Sarah GUERNSEY. However, the above referenced book does not list an Enos as a son of Jonathan MEAD, III and Sarah GUERNSEY. Does anyone have my Enos and Hezekiah MEADand know correct parents for Enos MEAD?

Ebenezer Mead 1749-1837

I'm looking for information to corroborate the Ebenezer Mead in my family line. His name first surfaced in my research when I came across a note labeled "Our ancestors" written in the hand of my great-great grandmother, Therese Picard Rich (1847-1903). I'm in possession of the original (actually a couple of them as she loved to document genealogy) and it reads as follows: On Mother's side - Ebenezer Mead (my great grandfather) was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and married Phoebe Guthrie of Danbury, Conn. and was imprisoned in NY in the Old Sugar House. He was pentioned (sic) and died from the effects of exposure sustained while in prison - Lived at Somers, Westchester Co. NY in 1776. He was one of Gen. Washington's body-guards. Phoebe, wife of Ebenezer Mead (my great grandmother) had two brothers, Selaty and Ebenezer Guthrie, who were killed in war, supposed at battle of Bordentown. Aner Mariotte (my grandmother), daughter of Ebenezer and Phoebe Mead, married first to George Fash, merchant at NY City, and after to Francois Mariotte, an officer under Napolean 1st born at Chaumont, France - Kate, George, Maria and Ann were children by first marriage, and Antoinette (my mother), Phoebe, Francis and Adelaide, by second marriage. -Therese Picard Rich.

The only other source I've been able to find that points to the correct Ebenezer Mead, and I know there are plenty of E.M.s to go around, was in a book labeled "Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files" which I found in the main branch of the Phoenix (AZ) Public Library. The abstract reads as follows: Mead, Ebenezer, S13919, CT & NY Line, sol was b. 12 Dec 1749 at Fairfield CT & he lived at Dutchess Co., NY at enl. & later moved to Danbury CT & also enl there then moved to Cortland Manor which late became Somers NY & also enl there, he appl 3 Oct 1832 at Somers in Westchester Co NY, sol d 20 Jun 1837.

If anyone can help me place this Ebenezer within the greater Mead family or knows anything of his wife's family, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!
Jana

Hi there. I am trying to track a line from Eileen Myrtle Kimber (nee Mead) (b. ? m. 1951, d.?)

Eileen married William Aubrey Kimber in 1951 and resided at Queenscliffe, Sydney. I think Eileens father was Herbert and her mother was Susanna (nee Johnson) - not sure about this though.

The line I am particularly interested in is Glennis Kimber who was adopted by Eileen and William in the late 1940's. (I dont know Glennis's birth/real name but I would love to trace her family tree). Any info would be greatly appreciated

Book Writen By Douglas A Mead

Recently I asked my grandmother (Dolores Mead Wife of Dee Alan Mead) if she had any information on our family. She loaned me a book written by a Douglas A Mead. I have found this book very informative. If anyone would like to see some of the book I am going to eventually scan it and save it to a disk. just email me and I can email you a copy. it is a total of 60 pages. It starts in 1066 in England where my mead family is found to have come from. William Mead and his three brothers boarded the ship Elizabeth in port lydd, kent in April 1665. William Mead Starts the 1st generation of the mead family in America, which later made there way to Michigan, thus getting the "Michigan Meads". You would not belive how much this book has helped me. There is also other books that Douglas got his information from, listed in the back of this book. One was written bya Spencer P Mead. Just thought I would let everyone know of this book. If you think it may be of help to you, just let me know and I can email it as soon as I get it scanned onto a disk.

I am looking for Meads/Meades in the Southwest Coast area of NFLD. I am descended from William Meade, b. abt. 1859, who married Mary Elizabeth LeFresne in Isle Aux Morts (then called Seal Cove) in 1884. His father was also William Mead(e). I believe he may have migrated from the Burgeo area. I found a William Mead married to Elizabeth Richards in 1846; I believe they later moved to La Poile and had children John, Esther and Samuel. If you have any information on any of these people or any Meads/ Meades in IAM, I would appreciate it.

Quaker Meads in Cecil Co, MD, Bucks Co, PA....Virginia....Kentucky

Looks like most of you are researching the "other" Mead family, but I wanted to jump in here and post.

My family starts off with William Mead, a 17th century Quaker, from Cecil County, Maryland. He was the father of my gggggg grandfather John Mead, married to Mary Abrell. Then, it follows down to Robert Mead & Hannah Rhodes, to Moses Mead & Mary Polly Hackworth, to Rhodes Meade & Emeriah Elkins, to John Lemuel Meade & Hester Burgess, to Alec Meade & Lindy Stephens, to Albert Richard Meade & Nellie Lee Compton.

Like so many other Mead family researchers, I'm looking for any information I can find, mostly on that patriarch, William.

Oral legacy passed down through our family lists Reverend Matthew Mead of London as our ancestor. We have nothing to prove it except that tradition.

Here's my tree:

http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/mrslaron2002

Would love to hear from some cousins. :)

Thanks for your time,
Lisa

Norman Mead son of Peter and Alice?

I have just recently seen a lineage chart, stating Peter and Alice Mead of England are the parents of Norman Mead..b. 1804, however the birth year listed on chart is 1807...the rest of the lineage is correct.

Norman married a Margaret Lurney? Turvey? Lurvey?
Listing of Virginia marriages 1740-1850 lists marriage to Margart Ann Lurvey December 30, 1840 in Richmond.

Norman and Margaret had a daughter Lucy Virginia Mead b 1842 in Virginia. Lucy married a George W. Golder, whom died 1868, had a daughter Mary Virginia Golder, then married Theron Rodman.

I have not seen the connection to Peter and Alice previously and wonder if the connection is true....various census' state Norman's parents being born in Connecticut, but this would not be correct given the info that Peter and Alice were born in England.

Any ideas on this?

Child is Joanna

1850 Chester, Warren County, New York; Roll: M432_609; Page: 145; Image: 291. enumerated Oct. 28, 1850
dwelling 288 family #307
Lake, James W. 22 m. farmer NY married within year
Lake, Lydia 26 f. NY married within year
dwelling 288 family #308
Lake, Philander N. 43 m. farmer 800 NY
Lake, Eliza A 33 f. NY
Mead, Joanna 7 f. NY
Lake, Mary 83 f. CT.

There has been several marriages between the Lake and Mead families over a period of time, I do not think this is the case of perhaps this woman Eliza A. married to Philander was a Mead but rather lost her husband early for whatever reason. As census can be a bit messed up with errors it is possible she is the daughter of the Lydia Lake mentioned and marrying within the year to the James Lake.
Also not any given relations it is possible she is the grandchild of the Mary Lake that is listed with the family and is visting....and the Lake she is listed with is Uncle and Aunt....Guess is all I have without given relations.

News from The Berea Advertiser / August 30, 1877

OLMSTED

Those who attended church on the two last Sundays, had a chance to listen to a tirade against dancing. On the first Sunday, Mr. Burlison went so far as to call those ladies who attended dances, "Things", and on last Sunday, Mr. Grogan nearly matched him. Perhaps those men have made friends by their remarks but we would like to ask them which is the greater sin: to go to a dance properly conducted and while away few hours in "tripping the light fantastic" or for a crowd to go off into the woods where the temptations to sin are many times greater, and make night hideous until hours when most dancing would be over, and call it a camp-meeting? We wait with patience for the explanation.

Uncle Chancy Mead** is quite low, and fears are entertained for his recovery. Old age and general debility are the cause.

The dance at Shueron's Grove, was not very well patronized by the young people of this place.

Mrs. Mary Moyer, of Oak Shade, Fulton county, is visiting at her father's, Mr. W.W. Meads*.

Mr. Busby is still looking for his mare and buggy, and would probably like to interview ye barefoot tramp for a short time.

The Sunday School will picnic at the lake on Thursday of this week.

Submitted by W.D.B.

NOTES BY TRANSCRIBER, on 4-1-2008.
*According to the 1870 census, this Mary is the daughter of Wm. W. Mead, who is the son of above-mentioned Chauncy Mead.
** According to the 1870 census, born c. 1790 in Vermont.

Emeline Mead

Can anyone help me with the parents of Emeline Mead that married Paul Pierce abt 1826. Some show they were married in MA. Have found them 1830 in Canton,Saint Lawrence Co., NY. 1840 was in Harpersfield, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. 1850 was in Gratiot, Lafayette Co., Wisconsin. He died in 1854.
Per 1850 census she was 44 yrs old (b. 1805/06) in MA. Per the 1880 Cherry Grove, Goodhue Co., MN. she was living with her daughter Uretta & Elisha Russell showing age as 74 born
in NH (b. 1806) and both parents were born in Massachusetts.
1885 Cherry Grove, Goodhue Co., MN State Census shows she is 79 yrs old born in NH (which she would have been born 1806).
I believe she is of the Gabriel (Goodman) Mead line from MA. and her parents were Levi Mead b. 14 Aug 1759 Lexington, Middlesex, Ma. D. 29 Apr 1828 Chesterfield, Cheshire, NH. and Betsey Converse b. 7 Mar 1763 Bedford, middlesex, MA D.4 Dec 1842 in Chesterfield, Cheshire, NH.
Per information found Levi moved from MA to NH in 1801.
On the Trees I've found on Levi & Betsey, Emeline is not listed as a child, but Levi's son Levi names his 3rd daughter Emeline and also 2 of his sons by a couple of his brothers names.
On the 1810 Chesterfield, Cheshire Co., New Hampshire Census Levi is listed : males 2 un/10, 1 10/15, 2 16/25,1 45+ females:2 un/10, 1 26/45. and in Family Trees are only showing one daughter.
Any help appreciated.
I started looking up my Mead family and have ran into who are these related to. I found an Annastasia Mead b. May 1897.
Her parents are
Name: Luke MEAD
Birth: NOV 1853 in New Jersey
Note: 1900 Census Roll 962 ED 5 Page 7B Parents born New jersey.
He married a Mary Unknown born July 1856.

Children
Daniel MEAD b: MAY 1886 in New Jersey
Luke [2] MEAD b: JUL 1891 in New Jersey
Annastia MEAD b: MAY 1897 in New Jersey

census records I found out he was Luke B. Mead.
By using the middle initial and birth year I came up with a parent of Aaron Mead born about 1829 and he is married to a Susan Unknown son is Luke B. Mead and then I tried to find Aaron born in New Jersey about that time and come up with Adrian Mead New Jersey born about 1790. He is in the 1850 census of Newark, Essex, New Jersey. His wife is children, Aaron, Thomas, Margaret, probable the Eliza Boyd that is listed under William Boyd in the same family is most likely his son in law and daughter. Relations are not given in this census year.
Would anyone know how this family fits in? and also possible Aaron had a brother named Peter. In other words who would be the father of Adrian, if I am on the correct trails
Adrian b. abt 1790, and Elizabeth [Unknown] Mead
..Aaron b. abt 1829, and Susan [Unknown] Mead
...Luke B. Mead B. Nov. 1853,and Mary [Unknown] Mead

I am looking for parents (and on back of Robert Mead b 1766 d. 6/25/1831. He is buried at the Pinegrove Cemetary in Ludlowville, Tompkins Co. NY. His wife Rebecca (Nichols) b. 1782 d. 4/15/1842 is with him. Also in the plot is a Samuel Mead b 1815 d. 8/6/1855 and his wife Louisa M. b 12/8/1811 d. 1/26/1889. I am guessing Samuel is a son. Robert's son John N., (sometimes mis-written M.) is my ggg grandfather, b. 1810 d. 1872 in PA. A PA history book says he was born in NJ. Am looking for clues and any help you can provide to take me back farther. Thanks.

Mead family of Greenwich, CT brick wall

My name is Mike Palmer and I descend from many of the early family of Greenwich/Stamford CT. While I descend from the Mead's a couple of ways, the most direct way is from my GGGG grandmother Amy Mead, the wife of William Rundle. "Palmer Families in America" (page 437) say she was the wife of Wiliam Rundle. According to Spencer Mead's 1911 history of Greenwich (page 640)Amy Mead was born 1737 and died 12/5/1829. The abstract of the probate record for amy's husband, William Rundle, identifies her as a "Mead."

While some tree list the parents as Capt. Caleb Mead and Hannah Rundle, there is zero proof of this.

Any thoughts on who the parents of this Amy Mead were? I wonder if she was really a Mead at all as Spencer Mead's work is filled with tiny errors

Trying to find the marriage of Alice Mary Mead and Edward Earl Kirkwood. The only information I have comes from the birth certificate of their daughter Ivy, who was born in Islington in 1908. Edward's occupation was engine driver.
I don't know how old they were, where they came from, or when and where they got married. Looked at every year from 1910 back to the 1880's so far, and only found an Edward Earl Kirkwood marrying someone else, not Alice.
Found a number of Alice Mary Meads who could be possibilities, but until I can find her marriage to give me her age and father's name, I'm stuck.
Any ideas?

Margaret Mead Dec. 16, 1901

Margaret Mead anthropologist and activist died Nov.15, 1978
She was married 3 times and still retained her maiden name of Mead.
Her parents were Edward Sherwood Mead and Emily Fogg. Her grandparents Giles Mead 1838-1880, and Martha Adaline Ramsey 1845-1927, great grandparents were James Mead and Margaret Sherwood.
I can find a lot of her family information on the internet about genealogy data through the maternal side. Emily Fogg is traced back and is out there.
James Mead, is he one that came from England? Or did I misunderstand a sentence or two about her roots.
On page 297 of her book Blackberry Winter My Earlier Years she has put down a family tree and starts with her great grandparents, no dates or from where on the Mead side. One maternal side she gives Richard Ramsay with dates.
So trying to trace the Mead side and wondering how I may be related to her. Does anyone know the dates of James Mead and Margaret Sherwood beyond estimated could be 1810-1820, or who is parents are, where he came from? How does he fit in with Spencer Meads family on genealogy that he done from Connecticut, ect.? The Knapps being a large part of those earlier marriages.
I am only half way through the book Blackberry Winter, and gleaning the information trying to read a biography is not working well with my befuddled mind. I am sure I will end up reading it twice before returning to the library looking for those clues in the middle of paragraphs.
I can be found here one has my tree and the other is a report.
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=jaywhle

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/y/o/u/Judith-A-Yo...
