Dear Les, All that I can tell you is that I read this information in my research quite a while ago and never bothered to write down the source. I really goofed big time!!! I am glad to find another family member. There has been a lot of information the Meader's but it is Priscilla's husband Joshua Roberts (my greatgrandfather) that I'm stuck on. Good luck.
Barbara Roberts von Minden
la Mirada, California

Charles Samuel Meader, Maine

I'm looking for any records of Charles Samuel Meader, he was married to Clymena Tracy, he was born in 1858 and died 1939, in Vienna, Maine. I know his children's names were Charles Leslie Meader, Ora Meader and Hattie Meader. He had a second wife, Mary, after Clymena died in 1908. What I can't find is a record of his parents, although I've been told his father's name could be Abram, or Abraham. They were mostly in Rome, Maine, in Kennebec County. Thanks to anyone who may have info!

Rescued Photo, MEADER Surname, Massachusetts

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them.

From an auction in Massachusetts, I obtained a photo of Donald Meader, a young boy who is sitting on a pony. I'm guessing it was taken in the early 1900s. He's wearing knickers & long socks. The pony has a plume on it's head, so maybe he was riding in a parade?

I'd like to find family to send this to. For details on how to obtain this treasure, contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

Walter Sidney MEADER, circa 1871-1900, Providence (Providence), Rhode Island (RI)

Walter S. MEADER was a professor teaching at the Friends School, Providence (Providence), Rhode Island (RI) in the year 1894. Friends is a Quaker institution of higher learning. The information was taken from the 1894 “Phoenix Echo”, Friends School Yearbook. A biographical sketch without his photo is found therein. The yearbook images are viewable as an addendum of this posting.

Walter S. MEADER is found in the 1900 Federal Census residing in Providence (Providence), Rhode Island (RI) at 286 Lloyd Street. He is enumerated as being born January 1859 in New Hampshire (NH). He is listed along with his wife Lucy H., born July 1865 in Maine (ME), a son Stephen W. born March 1892 in RI, a daughter Margaret S. born June 1895 in ME and another daughter Helen H. MEADER born November 1898 in RI. There are also a minimum of three researchers at Rootsweb.com Worldconnect Project that are maintaining genealogical files on this family.

There were no other MEADER surnames mentioned in the yearbook.

I am not related to this family. I acquired the yearbook at auction and I’m posting information found in the yearbook whenever I find a family tree to match it to.

I can email a image of the entire yearbook page if anyone is so interested if it cannot be viewed or downloaded.

Glen F.

Searching for a possible Meader / Meador connection to my Mason family in Northern Vermont...Canada? My gg gram Aurelie Masson (Orilla Mason) used the name Meader for my g grandfather's middle name. She was born ABT 1839-1842 (never could make up her mind)...her death cert in 1929 reads father Joseph Mason...mother Nancy ? (with the question mark) I am not finding a Meader connection on her husbands side. There is a very good possibilty she may have had Native American ancestry...appears to be wearing moccasins and blanket in picture in 1927.

I am interested in making contact with a descendant of a Meader family who lived in Maine in the early 1900s. I believe that this Meader family was related to Margaret Morrison Park, who was living in Belfast, Maine in 1902 and moved to Pittsfield, NH by 1904. If you have any suggestions about whom I could contact, I would be very appreciative.

Reiterating iformation listed in old messages. There is a Meader Fam Assoc, last address I have is 158 Ashdown Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019, Jane Nye is probably still the contact. This is where you can get the four volumes of John Meader of Piscataqua, Library of Congress #75-33453. As you may know, or not if you're new to this, not all Meaders are related; these books are concerned with J.s descendents.

Tracking a William H. CHESSWELL / CHESWELL who marries a Eliza E. MEADER...they have 1 child Ora May CHESSWELL b. 1858 in MA ...they both die prior to 1870 and are believed to be buried in Boston, MA area. Ora M. CHESSWELL is on the 1870 census in Biddeford, York Co., Maine living with possible ANDREWS relatives and then shipped off to an Uncle Peter DOWNS in Omaha, Nebraska. I've tried searching for a 1860 census for the family as that's the only one they will be on...but can't find anything close enough...and I can't find anything regarding William H. Chesswell / Cheswell prior to 1860. Ora marries Charles F. McLain and I've found them on the 1880 census living with his parents in Douglas Co., NE...but since Ora and Charles die prior to 1900 there is no futher census info. VERY INTERESTED in any possible links to these families...happy to share info...thanks!

I'm interested in connecting with anyone following the family of Ibra and Clara Johnson Meader, who lived in Plattsburgh, Clinton County, New York in the early 1900's. Clara died in 1929. They had five children: Marion, Aubrey, Clinton, Mildred and Kenneth Meader.

My main interest is tracing the family of Clara Johnson who I think was the daughter of William Johns(t)on and Bridget (surname unknown). William was born in Ireland and Bridget was born in Canada. They lived in the Mooers, New York area. Clara (Mrs. I.A. Meader) was one of their children. Any help with this family is appreciated.

Meder(s) of Cumberland, MD

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.

I have a GG-Grandfather named Michael Meders, from German Catholic Church documents in Cumberland, MD, I was given a grave site with the names John Meder (1799-1877) and 2 named Margaretha Meder (mother and daughter). Although the relationship was never supplied by the church, I believe my Michael was a son of John.

When I was young, I had done a grave rubbing on the stone of Michael's wife, Caroline (that church records can no longer identify-yet I know it was in their cemetary)and this listed her as wife of Michael Meders. A 1913 Cumberland, MD Directory gives Caroline as the widow of Michael Meders. Apparently, sometime toward the end of the 1800's an "s" was included.

I'm disabled, so I've not been able to afford any paid genealogical sites or even travel back to Cumberland for any additional information. I've been through censuses and stuff, but I'm finding surprisingly little information.
There is a suggestion that they may have come from PA.

I've contacted a Meder from Scranton, PA but haven't heard anything back yet.
Caroline Hodel-Meders was from Philadelphia to Cumberland. Thier daughter, Florence married by G-Grandfather Benjamin N. Ellsworth, who was born in Ohio, according to censuses, and moved to Cumberland by way of Pennsylvania.

I also have other family relatives from another branch who moved from Rockingham Co, VA, through Hardy Co, WV and into Cumberland. There's at least 3 different routes into Cumberland from all directions. Also, seeing the varieties of the Meder spellings (Meader, Mader, Meadows, Madore, Meders) I'm really at a loss of hope and now I'm grasping at straws.

I was lucky to get what information I have from family members before they all passed away. St Peter & Pauls has been knid enough to send me the documents they can find, which has helped to lead to other sources, but this branch has grown cold.

I'm hoping anyone might be able to offer some help or suggestions.
Thank you,
Terry
tacapollo(at)peoplepc(dot)com

John was one of 11 original owners of Nantucket Island. Then I have a Nicholas born Oct. 1712 in NH. Then I have David ( no dates) with wife Sarah Bean. After David comes James born 1790. James had a daughter Priscilla born 1825 in Lower Canada. She married my g grandfather Joshua Roberts born 1820, VT. They both died in Concordia KS. Joshua Roberts is the one I can't seem to get past. Hope this helps, let me know.
Sincerely, Barbara Roberts von Minden

Hello: I have 4 generations of Meaders in Maine in my family ancestry and they are: Frances Meader, b. 1774, William Meader, b. 1884, Frances Meader, b. 1804 and Charles Meader, b. 1827. They lived in Industry Maine. I found three of the generations through the Franklin County, Maine GenWeb site. They were carpenters, blacksmiths, and served on various legislative boards. Charles moved to Indiana with his widowed mother and siblings around 1845.Check out GenWeb -- they have a history book written cby William Colin Hatch in 1893 that lists the Meader family history. Hope to hear from you. tenantsrighst@sbcglobal.net
