I'm looking for my biological grandfather, who I'm assuming has passed. I have only a single military photo with the name Meadors on his chest. He came and had a child with my Korean grandmother, begged her to come back to the US with him on three different occasions, all to which she refused. She has since passed, but was a resident of Munsan, South Korea. My father, who is now 52, has no information on him except the photo.

Hi! I don't know if I can help you, but we are cousins through Jacob Meadors and Martha Angel, except I am a descendant of their son Grover C. Meadors. I have a bunch of info. about the brothers and sisters (although it's about 10 years old). I saw a huge Meadors family tree going back to 15-1600s (I think the owner is nikkioco5) and I was wondering if you had seen it or knew anything about it. In any case, it's good to know there are others out there researching our huge Meadors family!

I don't know if my Meadors connect with yours or not.

My great-great-grandmother was Deborah (Debbie) Meadors (1883-1965). She is the daughter of Jacob Meadors (1857-1921) and Martha Ann Angel (1858-1923), and was married to Ancil M. Meadows (1876-1958).

Jacob's parents were Jeremiah Meadors (1822-1899) and Mary "Polly" Creekmore (1823-1912). He was born in Whitley county.

Jeremiah's parents are Rueben Meadors or Meadows (1793-1861) and Jane Campbell (1798-1854). He was also born in Whitley County.

I have Rueben's father as John Meadors (1762-1839) and his mother as Jemima Melton (1771-1796).

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I would love to share info and am seeking any knowledge of Ancil Meadows.

Well it is 2007 have you seen any money yet... There in lies the question. Oil rights and land rights where bought and sold just like watches in New York. So what do you think happened to our so called money? It is in the stock market getting bigger. We will never see any of that money because there is no paper trail and if there was BIG OIL would have lost it some where... Good Luck. I would appreciate some help:

Jonas Meador was born abt 1698-1700 to John Meador and his 2nd wife
Jonas Meador married Frances Unknown.
Jonas and Frances had 9 children.

Does anyone have an actual birthdate or year for any of their children? (Bible, tombstone...)
Does anyone have a calculated birthyear for any of their children? (court record, marriage record...)

The dates I have are from "Our Meador Familes In Colonial America" by Victor P. Meador and Bernal M. Meador.
They seem to be "calculated" or "estimates" but they don't say how they estimated their dates.

My line is through their son Jehu Meador.
Jehu was born abt 1738 in (prob) Caroline County, VA. (7th in birth order according to the above book.)

Jehu Meador married Sarah Atkinson.
Sarah Atkinson Meador is said to be the daughter of Samuel Atkinson and wife Mary Ann.

I would like to know how Sarah Atkinson was identified as the wife of Jehu Meador (son of Jonas & Frances Meador). As far as I can determine, no marriage records exist.

There is a "Sarah Meaders" mentioned in the 1794 will of Samuel Atkinson in Cumberland Co, VA:

"... I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Meaders a negro woman named Lucy, a negro boy named Isaac, and negro girl named Agg, all of them now in her possession to her and her Heirs forever ..."

In Jehu Meador's will written 10th of February 1808, there is no mention of his wife, so we presume that she is deceased.
There is also no mention of the 3 slaves Sarah Atkinson Meador inherited.

Is there a land record or other document where Jehu Meador's wife is identified as Sarah?

Co., NC or TN or Whitley Co., KY...depending which records that you check. I personally believe NC. William Troy married 19 Oct. 1823 in Williamsburg, Whitley Co., KY to Sarah "Sally" SMITH, b. 25 Aug 1807 in Campbell Co., TN or some say Knox Co., KY. [I believe TN]. She died 3 Sep 1893 in Whitley Co., KY. They are both buried at the OLD RED BIRD Cememtery in Whitley Co., KY. Wm. Troy is buried beside Sally. IYou can still see the markings on Sally Smith-Meadors headstone, but Wm. Troy's was just marked Wm. T. M. [the last time that I was @ the cemetery, you couldn't read/see the Wm. T. M., but I have a picture of it.

Maude raised my mom, Peggy Ann McDonald-Boston-Johnson [1935-1994, my mom's mom is Nan Lee LAWSON-McDonald-Miskell]. I have a picture or two of my Mamaw visiting cousins in OK/AR/AK? Joel born October 6, 1853 and died Dec. 8, 1915 Sarah Sallie born February 21, 1847 in Campbell Co. TN I have children listed as Jogn b. 1878 , Henry F. b. May 1880 Elizabeth b. May 27, 1882 , David Crockett b. Oct. 16, 1884 Sarah b. May , 1889 .Another Son of Lewis and Susan named John William Meadors married Mahala Jane Blakely . I checked my info and supposedly the parents of Lewis F. Meadors was William Troy Meadors and Sarah Smith . Lewis was born March 11, 1825 in Whitley County, KY and died November 16, 1890 . Married Susannah "Susan " PREWITT April 11, 1843 . Susan was born September 26, 1824 and died January 20, 1887 Both are buried at New Zion Baptist Church Cem. I don't know if that is in the Williamsburg area or Red Bird. My grandfather was the son of Lewis E. Meadors and Lucinda Estes. Lewis and and Susan had 17 children. I don't have any other info on the SMITH family. I hope that this helps in connecting this family . Please let me know any thing that you find. I am very well in to the family research. I am presently researching my dads family here in AR. The Meadors family is on my moms side . She was the oldest dau. of William Bradley Meadors and Mary Ethel Reed. William went to OK when he was young.

Greetings to all,

I don't know who this Meadors, Eaton, Eden, Terrell, Lester family is but she traveled all over the USA. When women marry and remarry it is hard to keep up with them.

Today as I was standing outside a storefront the wind blew this nicely folded section of newspaper around the rear end of a car and right up onto the tops of my tennis shoes bringing its travel to an end.

I looked down and caught the headline so I picked up and read it while I was awaiting my sister and nephew to exit the store.

It listed John Thomas Meadors and his wife Cornelia Belle EATON's daughter, Mary Johnnie Meadors, and her 3 husbands, Marvin Terrell in 1939, Birchel Eden about 1951, and then Tillman Larkin Lester in 1957.

Just in case this Meadors family belongs to anybody in our Meadors line somewhere I thought I would scan the article and post it at all our sites. I also posted it on AncientFaces.com, Grady County, OK., McCurtain County, Ok. and will try to post it elsewhere.

Meder(s) of Cumberland, MD

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me.

I have a GG-Grandfather named Michael Meders, from German Catholic Church documents in Cumberland, MD, I was given a grave site with the names John Meder (1799-1877) and 2 named Margaretha Meder (mother and daughter). Although the relationship was never supplied by the church, I believe my Michael was a son of John.

When I was young, I had done a grave rubbing on the stone of Michael's wife, Caroline (that church records can no longer identify-yet I know it was in their cemetary)and this listed her as wife of Michael Meders. A 1913 Cumberland, MD Directory gives Caroline as the widow of Michael Meders. Apparently, sometime toward the end of the 1800's an "s" was included.

I'm disabled, so I've not been able to afford any paid genealogical sites or even travel back to Cumberland for any additional information. I've been through censuses and stuff, but I'm finding surprisingly little information.
There is a suggestion that they may have come from PA.

I've contacted a Meder from Scranton, PA but haven't heard anything back yet.
Caroline Hodel-Meders was from Philadelphia to Cumberland. Thier daughter, Florence married by G-Grandfather Benjamin N. Ellsworth, who was born in Ohio, according to censuses, and moved to Cumberland by way of Pennsylvania.

I also have other family relatives from another branch who moved from Rockingham Co, VA, through Hardy Co, WV and into Cumberland. There's at least 3 different routes into Cumberland from all directions. Also, seeing the varieties of the Meder spellings (Meader, Mader, Meadows, Madore, Meders) I'm really at a loss of hope and now I'm grasping at straws.

I was lucky to get what information I have from family members before they all passed away. St Peter & Pauls has been knid enough to send me the documents they can find, which has helped to lead to other sources, but this branch has grown cold.

I'm hoping anyone might be able to offer some help or suggestions.

Lewis W. and Malvina Meadors moved from Macon County, TN to Ellis County Texas between 1880 and 1900. Their son, Noah F. Meadors married Laura Franks in Ellis Co. Texas in 1900. I am connected to the Meadors family through Laura Franks and also through the Parker family. I don't really know a lot about the Meadors except the ones who came to Ellis County. Lewis and Malvina are buried in the Midlothian Cem. Hope that helps a little anyway.

In September of 1891 Hugh Lawson Jackson shot and killed his brother-in-law George W Meadors in Williamson County, Texas. The wife of George W Meadors was Laura Blankenship Meadors. Hugh Lawson Jackson died in the Rusk Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System while serving a 15 year prison sentence for the offense of 2nd degree murder.

My great great grandfather, Rutherford L. Nelson, is listed in the 1880 Census as a grandson of William James (W.J.) Meadors in Crawford Co. Arkansas. Unfortunately there are no parents listed with Rutherford. Does anyone have any idea which of William Meadors's girls may have married a Nelson?

Georgia A. Bird of Pueblo, CO died on Aug. 29, 2004.

She was born Sept. 26, 1906, in Gering, Neb., to George and Sarah Hall. The family moved to the Westcliffe area and homesteaded in the early 1920s.

She was a 50-year member of Cactus Star Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star, past president of the Dames of Malta, past department president of G.A.R. and past master of Steel City Grange.

Mrs. Bird is survived by her husband of 65 years, George; children, George Meadors, Pattie Adams, Sam, Ron, and Arthur "Corky" Bird; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Meadors; her parents; two sisters; one brother; one granddaughter, Sue Rusk; and one grandson, Greg Bird.

Burial in Lakeside Cemetery in Cañon City, CO.

Imperial Funeral Home in Pueblo handled the arrangements.
