My 3rd Great Grandfather was John Meadows, son of William S. Meadows and Mary Ann "Polly" Howard. John was born Nov. 21, 1815 in Greenbrier Co., VA and died May 29, 1875 in Mason County WV. He married Malinda Jane Cremeans March 4, 1841 in Mason County, VA.
My question is, who is Malinda Jane's parents. I have a copy of the marriage license, but it doesn't give her parents. My other Cremeans line goes into Higgins Cremeans. But I can't find any connection to him. Any help in defeating my brick wall would be greatly appreciated.
Roberta "Bertie" Cremeans Casey

I don't know anything about the Ethel Mae Meadows that Dorothy mentioned in one of the previous postings. I don't have her in any of my databases. The only Ethel Mae Meadows that I am aware of is my sister who is much too young to be the one you are referring to!! :) I haven't done any research on Lanty Meadows.

I am descended from Francis Meadows (c.1754-1836) and his second wife Frances Bush (c.1772-1853) through their son Nathan (c.1811-1876). Nathan had a brother Francis (c.1800-1872) as well.

I'm looking for information on G.W. Cole (possible name was Joseph) that married Mary Elizabeth Meadows, daughter of Andrew Jackson Meador and Talitha Jane Elizabeth Tuggle. They were married on July 18, 1868 in Stewart County. They had one child, James Henry Cole born Jan 22, 1873 in Stewart. By 1880, Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Meadows is listed as widow living with son, J H Cole next door to her parents in Houston County, Tennessee. GW Cole was from Tennessee.
Thanks. I thought that was the outcome. I live a couple of hours north of you, up hwy. 69, in Lufkin.

Do you know if your Meadows were in Knox County (now Whitley County)Kentucky in the early 1800's? Do you know about the earlier Meadows? My husband's Meadows came to Kentucky from North Carolina and earlier Virginia, to Louisiana in about 1839-1840. As far as I know, only his great grandfather came to Louisiana but I've wondered what group he might have come with and what trail he came on. My husband's aunt did much research when she was alive but I have not read all of the Meadows information. Her records are at the state library in Liberty.

Here is their line in brief: Jason>Jason Jr>Thomas (came to KY)>Edward>William Carroll (came to LA) >Eugene

There were Isham's in the early family. I have run across the Isham in AL but didn't try to trace him to this family.

Charlene Acuff Meadows

I think this was put to rest many years ago. I don't know if there was really money or not but as I recall the time to make any claims is over. There is a Meadows Foundation in Texas that was established by someone in the Meadows oil family. They make many contributions to various organizations here in Texas and other places. I have a funny story about being mistook for a representative of the Foundation but know that's not what you came to hear.

Charlene Acuff Meadows

Charlene, My grandmother was Henrietta Amerson Meadows the
daugher of Elias Meadows a son of Ransom Meadows of Alabama.
Ransom Meadows was a son of Isham Meadows Jr. Alger Meadows and family lived in Beaumont, Texas the home of Spindletop. I also live in Beaumont, Texas and am familier with members of Alger Meadows family.

I believe that the money situation has been settled. If my
memory hasn't failed me the judge ruled in famor of the foundation.

I was not able to connect my Meadows with Alger Meadows family, but believe that he was a part of Isham Meadows
family. If I memory serves me right Alger Meadows was born
in Tennessee.

I have attached an article from the Beaumont,Texas Enterprise in 1993.

Searching for Solomon Meadow, 1800-1872

My family is Meadors but after the Civil War, my GGF migrated to southern Indiana (Washington County) from Kentucky. His wife was Susan Watters (Walters). Their son Elisha(Elihah) was my GF. Solomon was born in Jamestown, KY, and mustered into the 8th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Co F as Meadow or Medow and was listed as Meadows. At that time, he had 4 children - including Elisha. Somewhere after the war, he changed it to Meadors. The trace to his father shows Solomon Meadows born in 1800 in Kentucky, death 1872 Marshall TN. His wife was Lucinda (Lucy Ann) Davis. All I can find on them are Census records and no Solomon born in 1800 appears. There is a Solomon C born much later. Trying to establish if the elder Solomon/Lucinda Meadows family is in my tree.

I am a great-grandchild of Jasper Moten "Mote" Meadows. My grandfather Theodore "Ted" was a brother to Stewart. Lori, you have a slew of cousins in Summers County so don't feel "alone." The last brother Marlin has passed away but he had a wonderful memory for events...unfortunately, I never was able to spend much time with him to hear the stories. His son "Snookie" can probably relate some of them. I would be very interested in learning if a picture exists of Calvin Green Meadows and wife or Calvin's father St. Clair Meadows

Hello Robert

I am related to W.G.Meadows, who was the eldest of five artist brothers, the son of the artist James Meadows Snr. If you would like to know more about W.G.Meadows, you can consult our family website http://meadowsfamilytree.net/ which carries full details of the various artists.

I would also be interested in viewing images of the paintings you own, as all of the Meadows paintings are of interest to myself and my cousins.

Best wishes,
Alan Hart

According to the social security death index, she died Jan 1976, only says card issued GA. You could try posting a request for an obit lookup on the message board for the county Atlanta is in. Or you could send for a copy of her social security application, but there is a fee. It should provide her place of birth and her parents names.

Hi,
I am trying to research my mother's father's family. His name was John, and I know his siblings where Alice(Colorado), Bernadette(California), James(Connecticut d. 1988), and Phillip (??). I also know their mother was Mary McQue/cue. Not 100% on the spelling. Their father was John J Meadows III 1901 - 1968; His Father was John Meadows II 1870 - ??? and I got as far back as his father born in 1841. Now here is where my tracing gets strange. He was either born in New York or Virginia. The only record that came up was that in Virginia the parents where Hewig Meadows, and Catherine Meadows.
I am attempting to reach out to my cousins through my grandfather, or anyone who would know my missing information.

Thanks much.
katcomix@gmail.com

My grandfather is the 4th in a line of John J's. His Grandfather was born in 1870, and his father in 1841 in either New York or Virginia. I can't get past there myself.
