Jason, James, William, Joseph Meadows

I am looking for information on any of these: Jason W. Meadows, James D. Meadows, William T. Meadows or Joseph S. Meadows. They all moved to Caldwell County Kentucky about the same time. Jason came from Bedford, Tn and the other three all lived in Tennessee, probably the same area. On the 1860 Caldwell, Ky census Jason is listed on page 63 and the other three are listed, with their families, on page 68 as next door neighbors. Some of them have listed their birth place as North Carolina and Tennessee. They are closely associated with other families that moved from the Bedford/Rutherford, Tn area to Caldwell. I don’t know if or how they connect but it appears that they are probably related.
Jason W.
James Emberson Meadows

Desiring any Info on James Emberson Meadows who was my gg-grandfather who was married to Elizabeth Jane Hereford. He died prior to March 1858. This is proved by Russell Co., Ky. Administrators bond dated 15 Mar 1858, appointing his wife Elizabeth and her father George Hereford as administrators. No idea when James E. and Elizabeth were married, or where James E. may have been buried. I know when the Cumberland River was dammed, it covered all the river bottom lands where the Meadows/Hereford families lived and tilled their land. Some reinterment was done to relocate graves but James E. is not listed. Don't know how he died?
Two distinct Meadows Clans in Russell Co., Ky. Maybe he was the son of Jacob Meadows b. 1800, Clark Co., Ky. or maybe the son of Andrew Meadows b. 1791, NC, m. to Jane Graham. No confirmations, just thoughts. James E. falls into the timeline for births of Jacobs and Andrews childrens?

James E. and Elizabeth Meadows had the following children: James Andrew, William L., Leah, Jacob C., Charles B., Sarah E. and Charlotte Jane (m. Isaac B. Popplewell). Have Popplewell Family back to 1700 Va. Have lots of data on the Hereford side back to 1155 A.D. and prior.

Elizabeth married 2nd, a Charles Marshall, at her home in Russell Co., Ky., on 2 Jan 1865, (Russell Co., Marriage Records). They later removed to Brushcreek Township, Wayne Co., Il. Found there in the 1870 1880 Census of Wayne Co., Il.
Elizabeth Herefords was said to have been born 1813 in Adair Co., Ky. Actual source not provided.

Any response with new data would be appreciated.

It was inscribed, "infant daughter of JR & ER Meadows; Born May 23, 1917 Died January 6, 1919. Does anyone out there know who this baby belonged to that she was buried in the Buckland Cemetery? I can not seem to locate parents with those initials. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Francis Meadows Sr.

My apologies for the delay in posting this information . . . my book became far more complicated than anticipated and my computer decided to blow itself up. Nonetheless, the book is almost off the press and I now have time to share the exciting document of Francis Meadows Sr. which gives his age and unravels his family. I have made a concerted effort to boil the information down to a bite sized message, but it is very challenging. Please note that this is substantially abbreviated. I am happy to share additional information and specifics.

I know that everyone is anxious about Francis’ deposition, so I will take it out of order:

Francis’ Deposition from the case of Reuben Roach etc. vs. Executors of William Monroe, Orange County Circuit Court Case, 1784-001, (N.B. the year given is the year the case ended) [original spelling and punctuation retained]

Orange
This Deposition of Francis Meadows aged sixty three Taken upon oath this 10 Day of March 1781 Before me Jeremiah White

this Deponent saith that he happened at William Mundroes as he was informed the same Weak that he was married to the widow Roach and he Lay in a bed well covered & William Mundroe and his wife Lay in a Nother and the Deponant further says that He saw two very Likely young horses on the plantation and understood that they ware David Roaches Estate and further say that he saw Several Hogs and he Further says that some years after he moved up To the same Track of Land and Lived there several years and Never understood that the sd William Mundroe ever gave the orphins any part of their fathers Estate or Ever sent them to school. And the Deponant father saith not.

Jeremiah White

THE CASE OF REUBEN ROACH ETC. VS. EXECUTORS OF WILLIAM MONROE: The case is fascinating and centers on the family (and estate) of David Roach of Orange County. I go into it and its background in great detail, but again I am summarizing. David Roach was an English immigrant who appears to have been a foreman at the Orange County estate of Ambrose Madison. Shortly before his death, he lost the use of his limbs, asked to be relieved of personal property taxes, and took out a mortgage on his property. David died in 1742 leaving a widow, Frances, and 3 young children (note: one paper suggests that there may have been 4 children; all other papers indicate 3 children): Rueben Roach, Ruth (Mrs. William Bohannon), and Anne (Mrs. John Harris).

David's widow, Frances, hired another English immigrant - William Monroe - to assist with the farm and soon married him in 1743. William Monroe assumed all of David’s assets and paid off David’s note. By the time of William's death in 1767 he had built David’s estate into one which was relatively prosperous. William’s will provided for his widow and gave a slave named Betty to his step-daughter Ann Harris. His other step-children were not mentioned (possibly the result of an earlier law suit in which Reuben and James Madison sought David's land willed him by Ambrose Madison -- another long story.) The remainder of his estate, including his widow's portion following her death, was to be used to set up a fund "to be disposed of towards schooling such poor children as my executors shall think most in want." Aside: William Monroe is considered the first philanthropist from that area of Virginia and Greene County Virginia today has a school named in his honor.

None of David Roach’s children received any of his estate upon either their father’s or their step-father’s death. The law suit was filed as a remedy. NUMEROUS depositions ironically state that William Monroe did NOT give his step-children ANY education and treated them poorly. It is the testimony received in this case, that unravels the Meadows family.

Although, no direct relationships are identified, affiants knew exactly when David died, exactly what he possessed, and details of William Monroe’s treatment of his step-children. This intimacy signals that some were related. The only relationship identified is that of John Bryson who is named as the Godfather of David Roaches’ children (note: it is possible that it is grdfather, but I lean towards godfather). A godfather would have been a person of importance and respect within the family and I believe that John Bryson Sr. was Frances Roach Monroe’s step-father. It would not have been at all surprising to have named her step-father as the godfather of her children. (NOTE: By the time of the law suit, both Ann Moss Meadows Bryson and John Bryson Sr. were dead.) Supporting this theory is that testimony was received from John Bryson, Jr. and his sister Mary Bryson Hackett, the only known children of John Byron and Ann Moss Meadows Bryson and like others knew specific details about the Roach family. Additionally, a Rachel Williams stated that she lived with Frances Roach Monroe’s mother (likely Ann Bryson) and it appears that she was likely another daughter of Richard Meadows and Ann Moss.

FRANCIS’ PARENTS: Based on depositions in this case, personal property tax records, Essex County wills and court order book, road orders, deeds, etc., Francis Sr. was the son of Richard Meadows and Ann Moss and was born following his father’s death.

Lots of factors go into this conclusion. Importantly, Francis was in Orange AT LEAST by 1742 – when he was in his mid-twenties – inasmuch as he was familiar with David Roach’s estate. Likely he was there much earlier. The Brysons were in the Orange area BY 1731 when Francis was barely a teenager and he likely moved to the area with them. Studying deeds, road orders & personal property tax records, the Brysons, Roaches, Richard Meadows Jr. and other related families were all living in the same general area.. As with other families of this time, these families remained intertwined for generations . . . particularly the family of Francis Meadows Sr. and Reuben Roach.

Francis’ testimony in the Orange County case indicated that he was at the Roach/Monroe home the week of their marriage in 1743 (again he would have been in his 20s). He was unaware of the marriage before his visit, but clearly had planned to spent the night at the home of a single widowed young woman with one bed room. Admittedly I’m not up on sensibilities of the time, but I have to believe that other options were available which would not have raised eyebrows. But, eyebrows would not have been raised if Frances was a relative of Francis . . . most particularly if she was his sister. I believe that Frances Roach Monroe was Francis Meadows, Sr.’s sister and that they were likely twins. There were twins in the Meadows line, including Francis’ uncles and Francis’ descendants. PLUS twins were frequently given similar names. My line from Francis Sr. has twins Simon and Simeon.

The timing of Francis’ birth suggests that Ann was very newly pregnant when her husband died and she and Richard may not have even been aware of the pregnancy. Many are aware of the details of Richard and Ann Moss, so I will only summarize the pertinent information here. Richard’s will (dated December 12, 1715 and recorded on May 15, 1716) named only his oldest son William, his “younger” son Richard and his “youngest” daughter Addra, leaving the door open for additional children. This is confirmed by the 1723 Essex law suit in which William sued the executor of his father’s estate (Ann Moss Meador Bryson) for his “proportionable share” of his father’s estate. A couple important items from this suit: this was not an adversarial case – it was the only legal avenue to divide the estate; the duration of the suit was less than five months (taking into account the Julian calendar) underscoring that it was not contentious; Richard was a planter (tobacco grower) and it appears that William sought his portion of the tobacco in the field at the time of his father’s death; the suit was probably triggered by William reaching the age of majority which would place his birth about 1701-2; and William was awarded one-eight of the crop. I provided the background and transcriptions of the court record to several attornies with expertise in colonial laws and they concluded (what I had already suspected) that the only way William could have received 1/8 share was if there were eight children. With only 3 children named in Richard’s will, the door was left open for 5 additional children – some of which I believe can be identified in the Orange County law suit.

The above is a very simple summary . . . my attempt to condense about 25 pages into a brief message. I do have more details plus transcriptions of a host of documents.

CORRECTING VARIOUS RECORDS OF FRANCIS MEADORS SR.: I also want to share some of my other observations and correct various records that are out there swirling around on the internet.

FRANCIS’ MARRIAGE: There are numerous records that Francis Sr. married Mary Bell in 1758 based on Orange County records. I believe that this marriage has been confused with that of Frances Meadows, daughter of Thomas Meador, who married a Bell in Essex and was named in her father’s will in 1758. No one, including me, has found any documentation in Orange County. Relatively recent LDS records do list this marriage. HOWEVER, they also include Francis’ incorrect birth and death deaths and clearly are not from original sources. They appear to have been from questionable records and point to a single source. I have also seen accounts that this Mary Bell was the daughter of Elizabeth (of Francis Jr.) Kirtley and John Bell. Francis
Kirtley did have a daughter Elizabeth. However in his August 4, 1774 will, he named her as “Elizabeth Kirtley” rather than “Elizabeth Bell,” indicating that she had probably not yet married John Bell. Needless to say, if Elizabeth had not married John Bell by 1774, it is impossible that her daughter could have married Francis Meadows in 1758. Additionally, Mary Bell (daughter of Elizabeth Kirtley and John Bell) married in Rockingham County on September 24, 1810. The marriage bond lists Mary as the daughter of John Bell deceased and Elizabeth Bell and Elizabeth’s signature is witnessed by her brother.

FRANCIS’ MILITARY SERVICE: Most researchers attribute American Revolutionary war service to Francis Jr., however, some internet records attribute a portion of Jr.’s service to Sr. It appears that the root of this mix-up was an incorrectly transcribed a 1818 Monroe County affidavit which erroneously included an age. That affidavit did NOT list Francis’ age. Further on August 15, 1820 Francis Jr. provided an additional affidavit in which he stated he had made a “declaration before the said County court of Monroe on the 16th day of June, 1818.” Francis Sr. would have been about 60 years old at the time of the American Revolution and highly unlikely to have served in the military at his age.

FRANCIS’ DEATH: Again, many researchers – me included – have concluded that Francis Sr. died between 1791 and 1792 when he disappears from the Rockingham County personal property tax records. However, internet records continue to record his death as 1818 in Monroe County . . . probably based on the erroneous military record (above).

PP TAX RECORDS: (1785 Orange County personal property tax lists) Two Francis Meadows appeared on the 1785 Orange County lists: one on that of Jeremiah White with 4 white soles and no dwellings of buildings; another on the list of William Bell with 6 white soles, no dwelling and 2 other buildings. Distinguishing between them is challenging and one is tempted to credit Sr. with the larger family. However, Francis would have been in his late 60s and likely with few children remaining in the home AND the Jeremiah White list includes persons associated with Sr. throughout his life. On the other hand, Jr. had two wives and sixteen children. I believe that Sr. was the Francis enumerated on the list of Jeremiah White and Jr. was enumerated on the list of William Bell.

FRANCIS’ PROPERTY. Some researchers suggest that Francis had a barn in Rockingham and the remainder of his property in Orange. While his property did straddle the County line, I believe the original source was incorrectly transcribed. There is an August 15, 1794 Rockingham County land survey entry from Francis Meadows Jr. Upon careful examination of the original record comparing it with exemplars of the scribe’s writing – and showing it to 3 other people familiar with the area, the family and old handwriting – I believe that the correct transcription is: “Francis Meadows . . . . Desires to Locate the same on the Hollow where his Father Caught the Bares and on the Survey of 105 Acres joining Meadows in the same of ornelius White.” This also dovetails with family lore about Mary Meadows (Mrs. Francis Sr.). [The other transcription reads: . . . where his father bought the barns.]

RICHARD MEADOWS/MEADORS JR.: Some have identified this Richard as remaining in Essex, inheriting land of his father and marrying a Millie (who following Richard Jr.’s death married a James Johnston/Johnson). However, the land upon which this Richard lived was devised to William (son of Richard Sr.). There is no way under the existing laws of progenitor that Richard Jr. could have received title. I believe that this Richard was the son of William (of
Richard Sr.) and had at least two sons (Richard and William). Widow Milly (who married James Johnson following William’s death) died in the fall of 1811; son William died unmarried and without issue in October 1794. I believe that Richard Jr. – son of Richard Sr. – is the Richard who was in the Buck Mountain area of Fredericksville Parish, Louisa County (now Albemarle County) before 1743. This area was immediately adjacent to Orange County and many families who married into Meadows and their neighbors lived there.

Just wanted to share my thoughts and findings. Hope that this is of value to some of Francis Meadows Sr.’s descendants.

My Great Grandfather was 3rd cousins with him. I need to find out if the money is still out there, and if anyone knows about this. I read a few articles on this message board saying something about a Meadows lawsuit, but this was around 2000. If anyone has any extra information I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Nancy would have been born in the 1920s or 1930s at a guess, and Sandra in the 1940s or 1950s. Some of this family lived in Columbus, Ohio in previous generations - but not sure if Sandra stayed there or moved elsewhere.

Benjamin Meador/Meadows of Amelia, VA

I recently "digitized" a book that my grandmother's cousin compiled about our ancestors in the 1930s:
http://home.comcast.net/~martin.d.r/McCausland.html#Toc17471...

In this book, she traced one line of Meadors back to Thomas (possible son of Ambrose) Meador of early 17th-century Virginia. With our other Meador/Meadows line, she hit a brick wall with Benjamin who married Elizabeth Green and died in Amelia Co., VA in 1797. I have seen several people online claim that this Benjamin was a son of Thomas Meador (b. 1711 Essex, d. 1776 Cumberland) and Ann Bourne (dau. Thomas Bourne). Can anyone provide any sources to support this theory/possibility?

Thanks,
David

[I already sent this message to the mailing list, so I appologize to the folks there who will now see it twice]

Need help RE Sarah Atkinson who married Jehu Meador

I would appreciate some help:

Jonas Meador was born abt 1698-1700 to John Meador and his 2nd wife
Jonas Meador married Frances Unknown.
Jonas and Frances had 9 children.

Does anyone have an actual birthdate or year for any of their children? (Bible, tombstone...)
Does anyone have a calculated birthyear for any of their children? (court record, marriage record...)

The dates I have are from "Our Meador Familes In Colonial America" by Victor P. Meador and Bernal M. Meador.
They seem to be "calculated" or "estimates" but they don't say how they estimated their dates.

My line is through their son Jehu Meador.
Jehu was born abt 1738 in (prob) Caroline County, VA. (7th in birth order according to the above book.)

Jehu Meador married Sarah Atkinson.
Sarah Atkinson Meador is said to be the daughter of Samuel Atkinson and wife Mary Ann.

I would like to know how Sarah Atkinson was identified as the wife of Jehu Meador (son of Jonas & Frances Meador). As far as I can determine, no marriage records exist.

There is a "Sarah Meaders" mentioned in the 1794 will of Samuel Atkinson in Cumberland Co, VA:

"... I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Meaders a negro woman named Lucy, a negro boy named Isaac, and negro girl named Agg, all of them now in her possession to her and her Heirs forever ..."

In Jehu Meador's will written 10th of February 1808, there is no mention of his wife, so we presume that she is deceased.
There is also no mention of the 3 slaves Sarah Atkinson Meador inherited.

Is there a land record or other document where Jehu Meador's wife is identified as Sarah?

Thanks,
Sandi
John>Jonas>Jehu I>Jehu II>Jehu III> Elizabeth Jane Meador (this is where my Meador line females out)

Michael Cagen "Cage" Meadows, b. 1866, d. 12/11/19/Polk County Texas

This is regarding my great-grandfather, Michael Cagen "Cage" Meadows, born in Alabama in 1866, died December 11, 1919, buried at Blue Water Cemetary in Livingston, Texas (Polk County). I am seeking to find more information regarding his life and death, and would be interested in finding descendants from his 3 marriages.

From researching genealogy websites, I found that Cage Meadows was probably born in Alabama and his father's name was Cagen (born in Georgia), and, according to my mother, his mother's name was Katrina (possibly born in Jackson, Mississippi). Hopefully I can check one day check the archives in Jackson to see if I can find additional information.

Cage had 2 children from his first marriage to Clarindy Musgrove (Victoria Meadows Blakeney, my grandmother) and Emma Meadows Landrum (my great-aunt). It is my understanding that he left Mississippi, ran/owned a saloon, and purchased land in or near Beaumont, Texas. He subsequently had two other families.

According to the research I've done, Cage had 7 children from 3 marriages. He died 12/11/19 from a gunshot wound by a neighbor over some sort of dispute and is buried at Blue Water Cemetary in Livingston, Texas.

Descendants from his first marriage are located in or near Taylorsville, Mississippi. Other decendants are possibly located in the following areas: Votaw, Texas; Beaumont, Texas; Conroe, Texas; Livingston, Texas; and possibly Houston, Texas. I have researched and found the names of his other children, but would have no knowledge of their married names since most of them were daughters.

Any information anyone can share would be most appreciated! I really became interested in his life, his death, and genealogy in general, when I began scanning/preserving family photographs to my computer a couple of years ago. I only recently came across the attached group photo that includes Cage Meadows, along with my grandfather, J. Robert Blakeney, (Cage's son-in-law from first marriage) and 3 sets of his children. Standing in the photo are Cage's 2 daughters from his first marriage (my great-aunt, Emma Meadows Landrum, and my grandmother, Victoria Meadows Blakeney). Victoria is holding her first child, Houston (Cage's first grandchild). I would like to identify the names and any other information of Cage's other children in this photo.
Moses Meadows signed the marriage bond for my ancestor- I have a copy. Her name was Mary Ann Elizabeth Meadows and she was the daughter of Stephen "Steve" who died of yellow fever. She grew up with Ransom Meadows her grandfather. She named a son Stephen Ransom Hardy (spelled Ranson on his death cert.)by her 2nd husband William A.L. Hardy.

Ransom went to Mt. Miegs, east of Montgomery, Alabama about 1816/17. Then, he went to Autauga, thirdly to Lowndesboro about 1819, then finally in 1840s to Alexander City, Tallapoosa after 3 of his boys died of fever- Stephen, Tom, and Jerry.
1850 Tallapoosa , AL 12 Dec House 1376 Ransom Meadows NOT INDEXED
Runtsum Maddows 63 $4000 farmer NC Township 23, Tallapoosa, AL abt 1786
Sarah 59 GA Township 23, Tallapoosa, AL abt 17 91
Miles 16 GA Township 23, Tallapoosa, AL abt 1834 Alabama
John W. 7 GA Township 23, Tallapoosa, AL abt 1843 Alabama (grandson- Gilbert´s son by a 1st marriage to Martha Matilda Snowden)

1860 Tallapoosa AL
Ransom Meadows Western Division, Tallapoosa, AL 73 1786 North Carolina Male Sarah Meadows Western Division, Tallapoosa, AL 70 1789 Georgia Female Mary Sanders Western Division, Tallapoosa, AL 50 1809 Georgia Female
Noly Sanders Western Division, Tallapoosa, AL 35 1824 Georgia Female

From an undated newspaper clipping:

"Ransom was a man who believed in "making arrangements," undoubtedly a long range planner. When the time came to settle in his final resting place, there was already constructed and waiting a sturdy, stone mausoleum. Time and the elements and some vandalism have taken their toll on the pre-1800 structure, but it is still in good shape in a wooded area about one-quarter mile off Elkahatchee Road, three miles from Alexander City, Alabama, near the old Crow place. In this self-styled mausoleum are the bodies of Ransom and his wife Sarah. Ransom's son William and daughter-in-law are also said to be buried there. Sometime between 1830 and 1840, Ransom and all of his living sons except William left Lowndesboro and went to Tallapoosa Co. in the face of malaria and yellow fever epidemics. It is said William out lived all of those who left him behind in Lowndes County.
Isham, Jr. also remained in Lowndes Co. and died there. Ransom was the son of Isham, born in 1765 in Virginia, and the grandson of another Isham Meadows, who was named for the Bermuda Hundred settlement in Virginia, founded in 1649."

Marker at mausoleum:
"In memory of RANSOM MEADOWS
born in Warren County N. Carolina
Dec. 25th, 1786
Married Sarah Stephens
Feb. 4th, 1808
died
April 2nd, 1863
aged 76 years, 1 month and 7 days."

From Evelyn Justice, August 1967:
"My grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Meadows Justice, told the story that she visited at Ransom Meadows's home many times when she was a child. She said he owned about 4,000 acres of land and 200 slaves. It took fifteen years to build the house for the sepulchre, and was built on a large smooth rock. The cement was made of wood ashes, salt and water. Ransom begged his wife, Sarah, for several years to be buried there with him and she refused for a long time. Finally, shortly before he died, she promised him she would be buried there and this made him very happy. A daughter, Frances, was also buried there. For several years the family could go into the sepulchre and view the bodies. But a few years later someone broke in and broke the glass and stole the jewelry from the bodies then the tomb had to be sealed." Ransom was not her father, but probably grandfather.
This could be Sarah´s family-
Household: 1880
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Warren JUSTICE Self M Male W 30 AL Farmer GA AL
Sarah H. Cass Farris

iii. Stephen Meadows, born circa 1813, died before 1850 census --from 1840 Lowndes he is born between 1811 and 1820. Family stories relate that he and his 2 brothers Tom and Gerry died with fever, causing his father to leave the lower swamp lands of Lowndes and seek land more north, moving to Tallapoosa Co across the river from the Hardy family in Nixburg, Coosa Cowhich he had known in Lowndes. His only child was Mary Ann Elizabeth Meadows who married 1st Robert W. Hardy about 1848 and had 3 sons by him. After he died she married his older brother William Allan Lansing Hardy and had 10 more children.

iv. Mary Meadows, born circa 1809-15, married 23 August 1836-marriage license at Lowndes Cty Courthouse, to Robert L. Dick born in GA, went to AL in the 1830's (land records). Their first two children, Martha and Sarah F. were born in AL. They moved to Union Parish, LA sometime prior to the birth of Ransom Meadows Dick who was born Sept. 24, 1840 in Union Parish. Robert acquired land in Union Parish, farmed and was somewhat influential in the affairs of Union Parish - served on a Police Jury several time, responsible for directing the placement of several roads and bridges in the Parish. Robert was a substantial slave owner according to slave schedules in the county. Family stories (principally from Robert L. Dick's grandson, Robert Ransom Dick who lived and died in AL) is that Robert L. left his family sometime prior to 1860, giving his wife thousands of dollars in gold and 30 slaves to sustain herself and the children. He was in Zandt County, Tx, 1860, showing R.L. Dick, age 51, born GA, listed with William Lauderdale family. Martha and Sarah stayed in Union Parish, but Mary took her young son, Ransom Meadows Dick back to AL to live near her Meadows family. She may have remarried to a Sanders. A woman named Mary Sanders is living with Ransom and has $5000.
House 1477 10 September page 219
Ransom Meadows 73 1786 NC Real Estate $56,680 per. prop. $103,000
Sarah Meadows 70 1789 Georgia
Mary Sanders 50 1809 Georgia per. property $5000
Noly Sanders 35 1824 Georgia
Ransom Meadows Dick served in the Confederate Calvary (military records), then married Nancy Browning Bankston Coosa Co in 1865. She was the daughter of Nancy Browning Hardy Bankston who was the the mother of John B. Hardy who married Elizabeth Jane Meadows. Nancy Browning Hardy Bankston was also the mother of Mary Ann Elizabeth Hardy who married Milous Meadows and she was the mother of Robert W. Hardy and William Allan Lansing Hardy who both married Mary Ann Elizabeth Meadows, daughter of Stephen Meadows. So 4 of nancy peebles Browning Hardy Bankston´s children married 3 of Ransom´s children and her last child married Ransom Meadows`grandson.

v.
Cage Meadows (Michael Cagen Meadows) died 1919

I am searching for information on my great-grandfather, Cage Meadows. From what little I know, he left Mississippi either in the late 1800's or early 1900's and moved to or near Beaumont, Texas, where he purchased land and had at least 2 other families. My previous posting indicated that he died in 1919 in Botaw, Texas, however, I was mistaken. I now believe he died in Moscow, Texas in 1919 from a gunshot wound. It is my understanding that he was shot by a neighbor over some sort of dispute. In searching RootsWeb, I found that he was buried in Livingston, Texas (Polk County). Please E-Mail any information to me at lollypopno11958@aol.com or lollypopno11958@jam.rr.com.
