Hello,

My name is Dawn Irene Anderson Wallace and I am the Great Great Grandaughter of Thomas Meany and Alice Stutzenburg. They are the parents of my Great Grandmother (Mary) Mae Meany Warren, who is the mother of my grandmother Alice Irene Warren Hagenkotter, who is the mother of my mother Alice Irene Hagenkotter Anderson. I have been trying to get some information on Alice Stutzenburg but have had no luck. Do you have a DOB of DOD for her or parents names? I just started this journey and would appreciate any assistance or direction or advice you could give me.
Please email me at wallacedawn@yahoo.com.
Thank you,
Dawn Wallace

The Meany family(s) I am tracing arrived to the US in the latter part of the 1700's/early 1800's.

The Captain John Meany I was asking about was a merchant captain.

If you want to contact me via e-mail I can send you a link to the tree I am working on. Perhaps that will help a bit and/or we can put our brain cells together and help each other.
k21eyes@gmail.com

Karen

Hi,

I have a copy of a very old photo from my grandmothers house (she passed away about 15 years ago) of a John Meany -a sailor in uniform - I understand American navy.

I know he is from a branch of the MEANY family who immigrated to the US; I believed Philadelphia and the photo was sent home as a Ireland. I know he is linked to our family - the photo shows him in his 20s.

I have tried to find out more about him but have really made no progress - I tired searching the American Navy's records without success.

Have you any information you can share - maybe he is the same person you are looking for - I know my Dad has more records including old business cards somehwere of the Meany family - painters - from Philadelphia.

J M

Since I don't know from which of the 26 counties of the "Free State of Ireland" my g-grandfather, Michael Mooney, came from, a step in the right direction would be his parents' names. We do know for certain that his father's name was Martin Mooney and his mother's maiden name was Margaret Kinsella. The unproven family lore is that Michael came to the USA with two other brothers somewhere between 1861 & 1866. Does this fit your kin?

His father was Edward A. Meany) But that's it. I can't anywhere how they are all related.

Thanks for taking a look.

Thank you so much for replying...I just don't know much at this time about MEANY, Bridget (my 4xGreat Grandmother) that married James DODD, they had a daughter named Alice Dodd b 1819 (my GG-Grandmother. So, most likely Bridget MEANY was born about 1799-1802 or so (being 18-19- 20 years when she had Alice).

Haven't had any luck finding my GGGG-Great Grandparents BRIDGET MEANY-Dodd & her husband James Dodd....so not sure who Bridget Meany's parents were but sure they were all born in Ireland...not even sure if Bridget Meany came over through Canada with my GGG Grandparents....

Re: William Meany's Irish-Born Sister Mary

I am seeking information about Mary Meany Byrne, her husband Paul Byrne, and their children and desscendants. This family lived in Harlem, New York City, during the 1880s. If you have information about Mary Meany Byrne or her descendants, please contact me.

Mary Byrne’s birth is recorded among the baptism records, below, for the Irish-born children of Bridget Coogan and Lawrence Meany, from Leighlinbridge, County Carlow, where the couple lived after their marriage, near Bridget’s parents in Ballyloughan. Other children, including William & Michael discussed in this thread, were born to the couple in New York City.

Child	Baptism Date Father Mother Address

Moony, Philip 1846 08 30 Moony, Laurence Coogan, Bridget	Ballinagole

Moony, Mary 1848 07 23	Moony, Laurence	Coogan, Bridget	Ballinagole

Moony, John 1850 06 25	Moony, Laurence	Coogan, Bridget	Monmore

Meany, Catherine 1852 03 11 Meany, Laurence Coogan, Bridget	Moonduffe

Lawrence Meany/Mooney and Bridget Coogan of Ballyloughan, County Carlow, were married at St. Andrew’s Church in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow (Lawrence’s name is listed as the variant Mooney in the parish marriage register). In 1853, they emigrated to 125th St., Harlem, New York City, an area in which Bridget’s sister Mary was living and where her brother Patrick purchased a home at a city auction in 1853. They left their daughter Mary with Bridget’s family most likely because the child was ill with the fever that still stalked Irish towns in the years following the Famine, and immigrant ships’ crews would not allow the sick to board. The couple expected that Bridget’s brothers or sisters would bring Mary to NYC after she recovered; all of Bridget’s siblings and her parents had plans to immigrate. But family deaths and the American Civil War intervened. Mary Meany did not see her parents again until 1867, when she emigrated with her grandmother and uncle. She married Paul Byrne within a few years. The couple lived in Harlem, NYC, where Paul had a beer business during the 1880s. Paul Byrne may have been a brother of James Byrne, who married Mary’s cousin Bridget/Delia Doyle about 1886.
Candy,

I have a lot of information. First of all Thomas Meany was born in Louisville on that date, and his father and mother were Lawrence and Bridgette (thanks for the information on Bridgette's last name, would like some more info from you here). But they did not live in Cleveland Oh in 1860, this was another Lawrence and Brigette. They actually were in Louisville and the census taker mistook their last name (common occurance back then) it was listed as Manay, with Lawrence listed as Sam L. Manay. I have a copy of it will send it to you. Apparently Brigitte must have died between 1860 and 1870 census as it showed Lawrence was married to Isabella. Thomas and Martha were my g grandparents. Would like to hear from you, please email me as I have lots more information.

Lewis H. Meany

Trying to find out information on my Grandfather Lewis H. Meany, he was born in the 1880's, possibly in Louisville KY, died in 1961 in Dayton Ohio. Married Eva Beam in 1912, they divorced I believe sometime in the 1930's. Any information would be helpful. Always rumored was cousin of labor leader George Meany, but can find no connection there. He did live in Bardstown KY for a while, as my father was born there.

Laurence Meany married Bridget Coogan of Ballyloughan on October 26, 1845 at St. Andrew's Church in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland--NOT in Co. West Meath, Ireland as some Internet postings and trees claim. Dozens of 19th Century family letters mentioning "Larry and Biddy" Meany and their children Philip, John, Michael, etc., are currently being transcribed. We would like to share these, as well as photographs, with descendants at an upcoming reunion. Please contact me for copies of records and information if Larry and Biddy are your ancestors. Thank You.

My GGG grandafather was James Teggart. He came from Ireland 10/1844 and arrived in NY. He filed for citizenship in 1850 in Montgomery CO, AL. His wife's first name is unknown. Their son John Taggart's death certificate states his mothers maiden name was Meany and she was born in Ireland. I'm assuming she came over with James. Their son John Roderick Taggart was born 11/24/1860 in AL.

I have been unable to locate any further info on this family. I suspect that Meany's father was John Roderick Meany....John is a common name in the Taggart family, but I have not seen Roderick before.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bobbie Dusek
mbdusek@hotmail.com

I was in Bruff last weekend. Catherine Meany, with a father Morgan or slight maybe his name was Modesto was born on 19th March 1825. She had 3 sisters; Mary, Margaret and Johanna; she had 3 brothers; Morgan, Denis and Patrick (apparently he immigrated to the US but we have no trace. Catherine God-parents were Willian Carroll and Catherine Cusack.

Note : there is some confusion on whether her fathers name was Morgan or Modesto - the records are not completely clear. Either name is very strange and hasn't turned up as a family since in Bruff.

I would appreciate if you could share whatever information you have on Catherine.

Thx,
John

Hi,
I'm looking for any info on Thomas J. Meany, dob Mar 4, 1855 Ireland. Married Martha Shehan from Nelson Co., Ky. and his father Lawrence Meany, dob 1828 Ireland. Lawrence married Bridgette Lovett, also from Ireland. This is all the info I have for these two relatives. These are my G and GGGrandfathers. I have found them in 1860 census living in Cleveland, Ohio, but can find nothing after that on Lawrence or Bridgett. Any help is appreciated.
Candy
