Densyl,

Did you ever have any luck researching the John Jacob Mease line? There is one Jacob Mease 14 listed in the 1850 census that would be the right age for our John Jacob Mease. He is listed in the household of Joseph C. and Elizabeth Mease. So far I have been unable to find any other information on Joseph C. Mease. But as the census says he is a merchant and owns $5000 dollars worth of property, I would think that ther would be some record of him in Freeport Illinois.

By the way, I come from Art Mease, Kenneth Mease, Lonnie Mease in Stone County MO.

Kim Mease Cantwell

Hi Marilyn,

Remember me? I wrote you last year about Joseph Mease.

Joseph and Eliza Mease's son Josiah Mease m Margaret Rupp and had a daughter, Eva Vanora who married John W. Clark. Eva and John were my father's (John W. Clark,Jr) parents. Eva died in the 1918 flu epidemic in Greenpoint, Lebanon County at age 26. I have heard stories of her being pregnant with her fourth that resulted in a stillborn or miscarriage. I have written for her death record but have not received it as yet. I have learned that pregnant women are high risk for complications of the flu for a number of reasons. I am wondering if you have heard any of those stories too?

I am very fortunate to have a copy of some of my grandmother Eva's writings from 1913 - 1918. My youngest brother, also John W. Cclark III, sent it to me this summer. My heart ached as I read of the times that were very difficult. Evidently Eva did not eat at times so her children (3- John, Arlene and Margaret) and her husband would have food. If she entered a pregnancy in this state of health it was no wonder that she did not fare out very well.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

As ever,
Pat Clark Kramer

He married Mary Drury about 1750, I think in Overwharton Parish Church of England in Stafford, Va. The church has many wonderful records and is now called Aquia Episcopal Church.

Hi M. Mease,

Thanks for your response.

It looks like the same family; listed in the 1870 census from Union Township, Lebanon County, PA, at that time:

Joseph L Mease, b abt 1831 is head of the household at age 30 (my pat ggf)
Eliza Mease, b abt 1836, wife, at age 34

Children listed then as:
Susan Mease age 15
Nathaniel W. Mease age 12
Mary L. Mease age 10
John A. Mease age 8
Josiah W. Mease age 6 (my pat. gf)
Polly A L Mease age 4
Charles H. Mease age 3
Sarah J. Mease age 1

In the 1880 US census records Levi H. Mease is listed as being 8 yrs. and Susan and Nathaniel are not listed at all. All the other prviously mentioned children are. Wonder if Susan and Nathaniel died early or if they were living elsewhere. What do you know about that?

At that time (1880)John Mease, age 85, b abt 1795, father of Joseph L Mease, (listed as head of the household), (Eliza Minnich's husband), was widowed, listed as a retired laborer, and living in the same household.

That's all for now. Now I know that Eliza's maiden name is Minnich. Thanks for that.

Pat Clark Kramer

Hello...My direct line is from Louis Mease (1822-1895) whom married Sarah Ann Dubbs (1828-?). I think they are buried at Hopewell Cem. Miamisburg, OH as well as his parents and children. Their daughter, Isadora C. Mease, married James Frank Bailey (1838 OH-1894?), a school teacher, Civil War Vet and physician. They moved to Hamilton Co., Cincinnati, OH where their daughter, Anna "Daisy" Bailey was born (1883 OH-1950's). Frank and Dora (Mease) Bailey moved back to Miamisburg where their daughter, Anna "Daisy" Bailey married Howard Gauvey, s/o John and Sophia (Eckhart) Gauvey. Howard and Anna (Bailey) Gauvey's daughter, Maxine (Gauvey) McCombs was my paternal grandmother. Maxine Gauvey married James A. McCombs from Athens Co. OH. Confused yet? My great-aunt Bonnie (Gauvey) Chevalley remembers Isadora C. "Dora" (Mease) Bailey as a kind, very sweet lady. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it..ha ha.

The Samuel you are referring to was a descendent of Baltzer through Christian Meese (John D's younger brother).

I am researching Samuel Meese the son of John D. Meese who is Christian's older brother. John D. (born about 1783) and Susannah Klingaman had a son Samuel born 10/20/1816. Samuel married Elizabeth McCune and they had a daughter Mary Elizabeth Meese born July 25, 1866. Mary Elizabeth married George Hertzog and they had a daughter Lydia Hertzog born in 1888. She is my grandmother. I am searching for documentation that connects Samuel to John D. Meese and Mary Elizabeth to Samuel and Lydia to Mary Elizabeth. I would appreciate any information one can share. Thank you.
Beverly Melenyzer

My father George Adamson's mother is Lydia Hertzog, her mother was Mary Elizabeth Meese (Hertzog), her father was Samuel Meese. I am now searching for the connection to Baltzer. A family history states that Samuel was the son of John D Meese (1783 or 1785) who is the son of Baltzer Meese. Do you have any information? Could this be the same family you are researching?

Yes, I have seen your names. From what I have gathered, I think that Mary Elizabeth Meese Herzog is the daughter of Samuel G. Meese and Catherine Beal Meese. Samuel G. Meese is the sone of Christian Meese and Elizabeth Faidley Meese. And Christian Meese is the son of Balzter Meese and Nancy Anna Baker Meese.
Baltzer was big in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in 1776 in the Second PA Regiment, participating in the Battle of Long Island, in August 27, 1776; and was discharged in 1781.
My grandmother always said the we were some relation to this Baltzer Meese but we have never been able to connect him in any way. My line goes as follows:
Kathy A. Bauman (6-27-1960)Freeman
Kenneth H.
