Obituary: Samuel "Sammy" Medina

Samuel "Sammy" Medina, 69, passed away December 23, 2007, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his son, Sven Medina and his wife Sara of Las Cruces,
NM, his daughter, Ute Bachmann of Germany, four grandchildren and many greatly loved relatives and friends. He was especially close to his cousins Barbara Paz, Loretta Alvarez, Dosi Alvarez and Joe Alvarez. He was known far and wide for his fun-loving and adventuresome spirit and had many friends throughout the Southwest and Europe. Born and raised in La Union, New Mexico, Sammy is still known by his childhood nickname, "Bebe," by many in the valley. He spent his early years working on his family farm. After being hired by Raytheon, he worked his way up to Field Engineer and was sent to work on the Hawk Missile System in Germany. There, he met and married the love to his life, Erika Hilbert, who preceded him in death in 1973. Sammy and Erika had one son, Sven; and Sammy adopted Erika's daughter Ute. Sammy spent many years living and working in Germany before returning to New Mexico and settling down in Santa Teresa. He loved being with family and friends, telling stories and meeting new people. He also loved Germany, flying and anything to do with airplanes. Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 7, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home West. Sammy's family wishes to express their appreciation to all those who visited Sammy in the hospital or sent their greetings and prayers. We are humbled by the demonstration of love you all had for our Sammy. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr
Published in the Las Cruces Sun-News on 1/6/2008.

Hi! I am searching for my relatives/ancestors on my mother's side. My grandmother's maiden name was AMALIA ANIVERSARIO MEDINA, daughter of ANDRES and PAULA(Aniversario) MEDINA. I have no idea on the birth/death dates of my grandparents as they passed away when my mother and her siblings were still young but their eldest was born sometime 1906. They were from Lemery, Batangas. If anyone belongs to the descendants of ANDRES and PAULA(Aniversario) MEDINA, please leave a message on this board, we are trying to create a family tree and also looking forward of meeting them.

Ramon(d) Medina - NY

I posted early regarding looking for my biological father. His name is either Ramon or Raymond and his mother is Anna Rivera or Riveria. My father served in Vietnam and was born between 1947 to 1949. He was stationed in Missouri for awhile. He has a sister name GiGi. My sister and I were born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to a Norka Iris Padilla. We were given the names Noreen and Doreen but are not twins. I know very little about my father because my parents went through a bitter divorce and he gave us up for adoption. I do know that I have siblings somewhere in the New York area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nancy passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at the age of 95. She was born in Silver City, New Mexico on July 10, 1911, and moved to Fresno, California in 1920, with her mother, stepfather, and sister. Nancy worked various jobs in her early years and was especially proud of being an authentic Rosie the Riveter at the Naval shipyard in Oakland, Cali-fornia during World War II. Upon her return to the Central Valley, she worked diligently and eventually became a License Voca-tional Nurse. She was a compassionate and honest nurse who worked for the County of Fresno at Valley Medical Center, retiring after 25 years. Nancy loved animals and took care of numerous cats, dogs. a one-legged chicken, a dove that grew to be 25 years old, and many other pets that were left on her doorstep. Her neighbors lovingly knew her as the Cat Lady. Nancy lived a simple life but with a very gracious and generous spirit. She was a contemporary wo-man and always in-tune with current events. Independent and proud, she never relied on anyone else to make a living for her. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her daughter Helen; and her son Nick Alvarez. She is survived by her son, Clarence Larry Alvarez and his wife Gloria; former daughter-in-law, Delores Avila, who was Nancy's friend for 57 years; grandchildren, Helen Workmon, Christina Gomez, Anthony Alvarez, Arthur Alvarez, Alan Alvarez, Larry Avarez, Lisa Alvarez, Nick Alvarez, many great and great-great grand-children.
Published in the Fresno Bee [Fresno, CA] on 4/26/2007.

I am looking for information about my grandfather....he married Maria Alvarez somewhere in the early 1940's...from what I understood they were only married a year. They had one daughter, my mother, Maria. She does not talk much about him and my grandmother didn't either. I would really like to know something if anyone has any info. He sent a letter this past summer, so i am sure he is still alive. I wasn't able to get the address before it was thrown away.

Thanks.

Ramona was born about 1877. She is listed in the 1910 census with her 6 year old son Juan Collazo. She states that she and her parents were born in Puerto Rico.

There is a family story that says she has roots in Italy.

I've obtained a copy of Juan's birth certificate. No father is listed. The father (Perez?) left Puerto Rico for Santo Domingo where he was murdered. Ramona gave Juan her name.

Ramona and Juan remained together throughout her life. She died around 1972.

It is possible that she had 2 other children before Juan.

Please contact me with any info.
manuel medina father of rogelio and madeline medina and edward fivel in San Antonio, TX

my husband's name is rogelio medina Jr. His father was rogelio medina and was shot in October of 1972. He was only 18. My husband was not born until Deceomber of 1972.

Rogelio (Sr.) was married to Mary Ann Martin. It has been mentioned in passing, that Rogelio (Sr.) may have possibly fathered another child and that mother and possibly the child were present at his funeral. (can anyone confirm this???)

Also, Sr.'s father Manuel has not been seen since the day of the funeral. My husband has never met his grandfather. His grandmother (Lily Fivel - madien name), now remarried, does not talk about Manuel. In a conversation a few years ago when he pushed about information, she told my husband that Manuel was last living in San Antonino, TX. He thought his grandfather was dead.

Manuel had 2 other children Madeline and Edward. Edward was given the last name Fivel to carry on his mothers madien name. (she is supposed to be the last in her line...but there is confusion there as well.)

If anyone has any information that would help in our serach it would be greatly appreciated. We do not have any records of Manuel so we are at a stumbling block as to the ancestry line of medina.

Medina family in Colorado

Hello,
I am trying to search my fiance's family. His mother's name is Dorothy (Delores) Trujillo Del Real. Her parents names were Louis Trujillo and Cora (Corina) Medina. I don't have a lot of information on Cora at all. All I have gotten from the family is Cora died in Utah and is buried in Brigham City, Utah in 1950. According to family, she and her two sisters (Rosa and Jenny) were adopted by a Medina family when they were very young. Cora always went by the Medina name as far as anyone knows. I'm not sure where in Colorado they were from, but I think it was the Alamosa area. They think Cora's adopted parents were Estevan (sp?) and Ulalia (sp?) Medina. Cora was born somewhere around 1911. The only other info that I have on her is that she was married at least once before she married Louie Trujillo. She had three other sons that were older than her daughter, Dorothy, and they all had different last names. Any help or information would be very appreciated. Please reply to me here or email me at lacee65@aol.com Thanks! -Tonya
