Hello Beth,
I have responded to your e-mail address you gave and hope you are still there. I had given a check sign to the message board to alert me when anyone replied, but I guess I didn't get it? I hope you will write. From a newspaper report of Mrs. T. Meekins's death in 1837, I calculated that she was born 10/14/1758-11/15/1837 Hampshire Co., VA. The "T" Meekins was not very helpful. Hope what I have here is to you. I hope to hear from you again at mbame@juno.com. Thank you!

I am a descendant of John Meekins from Dorchester Co. He was born May 8, 1791 and married Nancy Colston, also from MD in Pickaway Co., OH on March 26, 1812. I understand that his father may have been Isaac Meekins. Can you shed any further light on them?

Thanks,
Rich Grimes

I'm interested in any information about Madeline or her family. She was the niece of my great grandmother, Emma Dale Webb (Wininger)

Yes, Fields Meekins is my 3rd g-grandfather through his daughter, Mavy.

I have four children for Fields and Mary: Charlotte, Sylvaneous, John and Damron. My Mavy is the only child of Fields and his second wife Rhoda. Fields was Rhoda's second husband, the first being an unknown Casey. They, too, had four children: Elsey, Mary, William and Lydia.

I have only two children for Field's son Sylvaneous: Isaac and Shanklin. The others are new to me.

I'd love to hear more if you have it - particularly if you have information on Rhoda's parents. I can't seem to find where she came from :(

Thanks!

Frances

Actually William Meekins (Grandson of Richard and Johanna Meekins) came to Chicamacomico (it is believed that he actually named the area Chicamacomico after a River pon the Easter Shore of MD) and he had a 1st cousin come to Tyrrell COunty NC. I actually descend from both William and his 1st cousin ( his name escapes me and my research isn't in front of me at the moment. Jeremiah and William are brothers and are the sons of Roger Meekins, James is the son of Jeremiah Meekins. Roger was literate and had a "book" where he recorded the births of his 10 children and Jeremiah kept it and did likewise. I have a copy of this "book" in Roger and Jeremiah's own handwritings. Roger was murdered by a slave he owned, I also have a transcript of the trial of the slave. The slave was convicted and sold as punishment. (remember, slaves were very valuable)

My ggggrandfather Augustus Meekins from Dorchester (and then moved to Anne Arundel County-Annapolis)used the names of Josiah A. (found on a marriage certificate to Martha Ann Gray), and Joseph A. Meekins. His son (my great grandfather) was Joseph Thomas Meeekins, and my dad and brother were/are named Joseph Thomas Meekins. Augustus Meekins (Josiah A, Joseph A.)was little when his dad (Robert Meekins 1794-1855)died, and Augustus lost his mother (Elizabeth Mace, 2nd wife to Robert) a few years later (1860). Augustus was the youngest of 13 children, and had an older sister (most likely a half sister, her mother being Margaret Booze) named Susan A, wife of John H. Williams. Could she be the "aunt" that took care of him?

I'm having trouble locating Robert Meekins' (1794-1855)parents. I know they were born in MD. Maybe...Henry Meekins/Elizabeth Meekins,or Joseph Meekins/Sarah Busick, or Dennis Meekins/Mary Meekins? They all have Dorchester marraige records dating 1781-1791. Any info would be appreciated! New at this and trying to see how far back I can go.

No. I haven't been able to find any documents to prove Robert and Lucy as parents either. I have found him in census records as Gus Meekins living with Susan (his aunt). I did find a Robert Meekins married to an Elizabeth Mace 21 May 1834 (Maryland Marriages, 1655-1850 (online database-Ancestry.com) but I don't know if it's the same Robert (or if Elizabeth went by Lucy).

So, Lucy and Elizabeth could be the same person?

I did find an 1850 census with Robert and Eliza Meekins and a 4 yr. old Augustus (Dorchester Cty. Dist.1, p. 94). And in 1860 14 yr. Augustus lived in the home of Daniel & Bridget Johnson with Tesia and Susan Meekins (Dorchester Cty, Dist 6, p. 138).

Dorchester Cty. records are really bad and there are so many Meekins! But I haven't gotten any further back that Robert.

Hi, Saw your post today. I have been researching Meekins in Cecil County Maryland and have hit a brick wall. Family believes the Cecil County family line came to there from Dorchester County Maryland. Would you have any info about the Meekins line in Maryland that date to before around 1850 and earlier. If so, I would appreciate what you might have available.
Regards, Greg Claypool

I've read this whole thread with interest and would like to include my Meekins line here.

My 2nd great grandmother was Mavtiss (Mavey) Meekins (b: 7 Dec 1855,d: 18 May 1887). She married Anderson Littleton Gray Jr on 14 May 1876.

Mavey's father was Fields Meekins (b: 1813, d: abt 1881). His second wife (who I believe to be Mavey's mother) was Rhoda Casey (a previous married name).

Fields' father was Sylvaneous Meekins (b: abt 1790) and his mother was Sarah (b: abt 1795).

If anyone has info in this line or might be connected, I'd love to hear from you.
