His father was Jacob Mehl, also in the same area. He was born in Alsace and so were his parents, but i do not know his parents. I think that they may be Michael and Catherine. Jacob and Lena Mehl had 12 children.
Samuel and Tillie had 6, one of which is my grandmother.

Johan Mehl Germantown, WI

Johann Mehl immigrated to WI in 1844 . He was born 25 Feb 1818 in Bavaria. Lived in Steinbach. He was a cousin of Jacob Konrad and George Regenfuss, of Dormitz, Oberfranken, Bavaria, who immigrated in 1843 to USA and to Goldenthal (Goldendale) now more commonly known as Germantown, WI.At the time when he immigrated he was a single man. Both parents were deceased. His Regenfuss cousins, were Catholic, and are buried at St. Boniface Cemetery, Germantown. I have found no burial records for either Johann or John Mehl. Johann\John did own property in the Goldenthal area, and lived close to his cousins. I am a descendant of Jacob Konrad Regenfuss.
Jacob Konrad Regenfuss had a son, John, who married a Margaretha Kern.

Clara Mehl daughter of Jacob and Lena

I need help from a member of the Jacob Mehl family. My husbands Great Grandmother is Clara Ellen Mehl. She is one of 11 children born to Jacob (1828-1888) and Lena (1840-1919) Mehl. They farmed in Butler County Ohio.

Clara married Walter Stoughton. I believe Walter met her in Hamilton because one of the three records of him is a directory showing him working as a salesman in Hamilton and coincidently Lena(Jacob's widow)Mehl is also listed in the Hamilton 1892-93 directory.

My problem centers around the family Walter comes from. I can not place him with any Stoughtons in the area. I am sure a marriage record of some kind resides with the Mehl's or some ones memory about who Walters parents were. I would be so very grateful if you could contact me or just leave a message here so I might continue with the Stoughton Line.

Thank you again.
Fran

William Howard Mehls - Descendents

I am looking for information on the descendents of William Howard Mehls. He was born to Herman Mehls and Dora Mae Bostwick in 1893. Dora Mae Bostwick was my Great Grandmother. She was born to Lardner George Bostwick and Lucenia Rebecca Rathburn in 1872 (Waynesville, Mo.). She died in 1959 in Jacksonville, Florida. Herman Mehls was a master brewer in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. He was born around 1860 and committed suicide in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin in 1936 (age 76). Dora Mae left him around 1899 and married William Ham Springer of Duluth Minnesota in 1900. They had a daughter "Evamae Lucenia Springer" in 1901.

William Mehls was raised by Dora and William Springer until he left home after 1910. I have marriage license, census and obituary / news clippings on above facts.

While I was a young child Dora stayed with us in Gainesville Florida frequently and once in the mid 1950's William Howard Mehls, his wife and 3 daughters visited us in Gainesville. I have a few pictures of William Mehls with his sister and mother from around 1920.

If any of his descendents are alive and would like to share information please contact me.

She was married to William DeWees, a paper mill owner.

She attended the Whitemarsh Dutch Reformed Church.

Although not much is known about Anna, a 'Hans Henreich Mehls' shows up in Germantown about the same time that Anna married William (c. 1704), and I presume they are related. Hans Mehls emigrated to Germantown in 1701 from 'Points Unknown in Holland or Germany' (yeah, that narrows it down).

Any information about Anna Katrina or Hans would be appreciated.

Hi Betty, I went to Appleton, WI, to do some research at the LDS Family Research center. They had some records for Washington County, so I looked to see what they had on your John mehl. land record index showed a John Mehl purchased some land in the Town of Germantown, Section 12, it didn't give a description. But it was dated Sept. 1, 1847. General land office Volume 32. There was two enteries. Did John have brother by the name of George or was this his fathers name.
There were no Mehls listed in the birth records. There were some church records available also. Were the Mehls Catholic? Mine were Lutheran.
