This is the obituary of one of her sisters.
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2009 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for 94, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Bethany Nursing Home.
Entombment will be in Fountain Memorial Garden Cemetery Mausoleum in Lafayette.
Reverend Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, Pastor of St. Martin e Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Morgan Lee Guidry, Madison Lynn Guidry and Hallie Preston Sobiesk. Lectors will be Sylvia Bertrand and Dianne Halpin.
Eunice D. Guidry was born on July 15, 1914 to Francois Duhon and Marie Whittington Duhon in the community of Judice. She was the youngest of twelve siblings. She married Preston Guidry on December 31, 1934 and gave birth to her only son, Alvin James Guidry in 1937. She worked at Judice High School as a Dietary Supervisor up until the time her family moved to Lafayette in 1955. She retired from National Food Stores after working 17 years as a cashier and later a pharmacy clerk. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening, but mostly spending time with her two grandchildren and her three great granddaughters.
She is survived by her devoted daughter-in-law, Geralynn Albarado Guidry, her granddaughter, Angela Guidry Sobiesk and her husband, George; and her three great granddaughters, Morgan Lee Guidry, Madison Lynn Guidry and Hallie Preston Sobiesk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francois and Marie Whittington Duhon; her sisters, Leila LeBlanc, Erita Melancon, Laura Guilbeaux, Nydia Grimes, Francis Trahan, Elzire Dupont, Ezelle Broussard, Ida Bergeron, Maydel Dupont and Rhea Miller; one brother, Edward Duhon; her beloved husband, Preston Guidry; one son, Alvin James Guidry; one grandson, Bryan James Guidry.
Pallbearers will be Donald Halpin, David Comeaux, Dr. Wilton Bergeron, Dr. George A. Sobiesk, IV, Dwayne Halpin and Elmer Savoie.
A Rosary will be prayed by Dr. and Mrs. Wilton Bergeron on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed on Monday, April 20, 2009 from 9:00 AM until time of services.
