We have in the Australian history a Dame Nellie Melba 1861-1931. She was born Helen Porter Mitchell. I think I am relate to her though my husbands family. She is very famous in Victoria Australia. I am also trying to link my family with hers. Hope any of this helps.
regards

Emelia Porter

PS.
Looking for a cousin of Dame Nellie Melba

I am trying to trace the existence of a female cousin of Dame Nellie Melba whose surname was Thompson. She would have been a young woman in the 1920's amd possibly lived in Scotland in the Stirling or Glasgow area, or maybe in London. Does anyone know where I could find a family tree for Dame Nellie Melba? I'd be very grateful for any information.
