He was raised and educated in Rockingham attending Bellows FALLS public schools, graduating from Bellows FALLS High School, Class of 1938.

A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the Army in the 720th Signal Aircraft Warning Company, stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He entered active service on Sept. 9, 1940, and was honorably discharged on July 5, 1945, at the rank of technical sergeant.

While his sons were being raised, he served as both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader.

He was a longtime communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church.

On Dec. 14, 1943, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, he was married to Eleanor Chapman who survives.
