Re: Mellons in Tennessee

Hello.

I share your frustration in not being able to find out anything about Jacob Mellon(s). He is my gr gr gr gr grandfather. We spell our name "Mellons," but it very well may have been spelled differently at one time. My grandfather, Arthur, signs his name without the "s," for example.

My line goes: Jacob Mellons, John J. Mellons, Clifton Rice Mellons, George Edward Mellons, Arthur Weymon Mellons, Danny Weymon Mellons, and me--Christopher Scott Mellons. I hope some of this helps, and if you have any information on Jacob, John J., or Clifton, I would be most appreciative. I have a "Mellons Family" page on Facebook, as well, and you are welcome to join.

You may also be interested to look into the Melungeon people of Eastern TN/KY. They were dark-skinned people who are supposed to be of mixed heritage of European settlers and American Indians. I suspect strongly that the Mellon/Mellons family may have come out of these people.

Lastly, I have sent a DNA sample to Family Tree DNA, and should have the results back within the next couple of weeks. This test should be able to trace my paternal (Mellons) line back thousands of years to our origins. So I'll let you know the results as soon as I get them. (In case I forget, my personal email address is scottyn2000@hotmail.com).

Good Day!

Hi,

I hope you're still there. Your post is at least 6 years old. Anyway I was wondering if you found anything more about the Mellons family.

My grandaunt, Mattie Peltier married J.Thomas Mellons on 1 October 1891. They had 5 known children: Sudie, Lenna, Ganes, Jerry, and Charles.

The Peltiers, Mattie's family lived in Hawkins and Sullivan County, TN.

If you recognize any of these, please respond. I'm looking for all descendants of Mattie Peltier Melons. Write to me at joyce@wicksclan.com or just answer this post.

Thank you

Joyce C. Wicks
