My James Melrose & Margret Robson were married at Felton,
Northumberland, England, in 1783. None of their 7 children
are listed in the Felton parish church records except for
marriages. John, b. abt. 1787, married Hannah Huntly,
after his first wife, Susanna, died abt Aug. 14, 1813. Their
son, James, born abt. 1813, emigrated to the USA and died
at Canton, Ill., in 1860. My ggrandfather, Hugh Hudson Melrose, was born at Felton, Oct. 1837, their youngest child. Hugh emigrated to the USA sometime after 1855,
arriving in Colorado Territory by 1858 or so..
Children of John & Hannah Melrose... John, b.1819, Thomas
George, b. 1821, d. 1831, William Edward, b. 1826, Joseph,
b. 1830, Thomas George, b. 1832, Jane, b. 1833, d. 1842,
Matthew Robson, b. 1835, & Hugh Hudson, b. 1837, d. 1913.
William Edward settled at Amble, to the east of Felton, on
the coast. I have not found where John, Joseph, Thomas George, or Matthew Robson went.. the last three boys were
still living with their mother when the 1851 census was taken. There was also a Thomas Melrose, son of James &
Margret Melrose, that died at Dublin, Ireland, Feb. 16, 1834, age 38. There was a George Melrose born at Leitrim,
Ireland, Nov, 1829, Carrick on Shannon, Ireland. He named
his first daugher, Hannah, b. Ripon, Yorkshire. abt 1850.,d.
Ripon, Yorkshire. His second child was named John
Wilkinson Melrose, b. 1850, Salford, Lan., Eng., d. 1921,
New South Wales, Australia. George emigrated to Australia
in 1852 with wife, Jane Schofield, b. Lan,Eng.
If anyone has information about George or George's father,
Thomas Adam Melrose, wife.. Irvine, or any of the above persons, please email me back.
Many thanks for your help.
Happy Hunting..
