etymological perspective on the name Memmott
I am a writer/artist who constantly does research into words and such... I work under the name Talan Memmott... if you've searched Memmott online you've probably seen my name before...

I found this interesting:

[OE. seax, sex, sæx (also in comb. Northumb. writsæx 'writing-knife',
i.e. pen) = OFris. sax, OS., MLG., OHG., MHG. saks
(also in comb. OHG. meMMisahs, meMMirahs, MHG. meMMeres, meMMer,
mod.G. messer knife = OE. m£teseax 'meat-knife')
+
Ott
Old English ord, Old Norse odd ‘point of a weapon’.

------

Considering the some other research on the name that infers the Memmott's made cutlery and such around Sheffield, this may in some way explain the name or connect it with a certain vocation
