I would love to help you , but my Louis menard stayed in Canada, as far as I know. However, some place along the line one of Menard ancestors did marry an Indian woman... according to family lore and my Great grandmother Leonide Lefebvre wife of Joseph "Isaie" Menard had ancestor Indian relatives and she really looked more Indian?French marriages? What about the Indians maintaining their Indian names? Thanks

Louis Menard with the Fremont Expedition

Looking for any information on Louis Menard, born in Canada about 1795, who left with John Fremont out of St. Louis, Mo. for several of his westward expeditions. There is a possible family connection with Pierre Menard (b. 1766) who was an important political figure who operated out of Kaskaskia, Illinois. Louis is mentioned in Fremont's journals, but there are several Louis Menards in and around St. Louis at the time. I am interesred in finding out if this Louis Menard is the same man who married an Indian, Flys-By Woman, and had several children with her before he died in Rulo, Nebraska in the mid-1860s. Thanks in advance for any help that might be provided.

Well, Surprenant's of Worcester, Mass is familiar to me as I am also serching same. the history of my family is one broken family after another, which makes stories passed down next to nil.

I have unknown great parents from Canada who settled in Worcester, MA and had several children. only three of which I can be sure of, with a maybe fourth.

1.Blanche Surprenant(the maybe) who had a daughter Leona, living in Quebec,Canada, unknown married names (I met Leona as a very young child. So Leona is definite, It's her mother's name I'm not sure of.
2. Ralph Joseph Surprenant, b. 1881. Worcester, MA , married Hannah Nellie Vaughn (raised my mother, his brother's daughter. no other children.
3. Marie A (Martinette) Surprenant, b. 1886 Worcester, MA, married George Labossiere, two children: George V & Corrine
4. Wilfred Alfred Surprenant, b. 1887, Worcester, MA, married Irene? abt 1925 they had 6 children together. Irene had one child from previous marriage. (Francis Joslin)
6 children:
Elizabeth (betty; corine) Surprennt b. 1927 -foster care
Marie b. 1928 - foster care,
Blanche Kay b. 1929 - adopted by uncle
Robert J (Bobby) - KIA Korea
John A (Jackie) haven't located family
Wilfred Alfred jr - made contact with children, they don't know anymore than I.

mary zihlman
zuber1977@yahoo.com
I haven't found Alexis/Alexander's bapt yet (some of his sibs tho), but so far I've been able to confirm his parents and sibs thru cross-ref.of the whole family unit thru some births/marriages/deaths/obits in Quebec and Massachusetts. Parents of Flavien Menard & Rosalie Josephine dit Bricau or Lamarche do not yet have details, but most of their children do. Alex wife Josephine's surname is still a mystery as it's written in the documents I have differently - Vignit on m/c, Binette-Minette. I have little on her so far. Alexis/Alexander may have possibably married 2's, not sure yet. Her d/c may be in West Springfield, Hampden County, MA. Haven't tried to access it yet for clarity. I've put the data and documents that I've been able to find/link (with translations)in Anc.com paid subscription data base. I've found/posted the earlier generations I've documented so far. If you don't have access to the paid subscription portion of Anc.com, contact me with a personal e-mail address and I will send you a guest link to see all collected so far. There is too much detailed info/documents with translations to post here and links can not be sent thru message boards - need a person e-mail address.

I am seeking information on the parents of Henry MENARD/MANORE/MANOR (b. about 1832 in Michigan).

Henry married a Susan GRODI (b. 01 Jan 1836 in Canada) and among their children was a Cordelia "Delia" MANOR (b. 21 Mar 1864 in Erie, Monroe, Michigan) who married an Oliver Frank BURROW (b. Dec 1861 in Carlton, Michigan).

Other children include Mary, Peter, Madeline, James, Trephena, Henry, Caroline, and possibly a John.

I am wondering if anyone has any information that may serve to link this Henry MENARD/MANORE/MANOR to the family of one Jean-Marie (John Mary) MENARD.

I know that Jean-Marie MENARD is said to have had a son named Henry born abt. 1832 in Michigan, but, as I can find no further information on this Henry's family, I am unable to determine if this Henry is the same as my own.

Any information, confirmation or denials about the potential connection here would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Hope
Toledo, Ohio

Hello Christian, our families paths sound very similar.
My grgrandparents were also b. in Quebec. Two of thier sons were b in R.I One being my maternal grandfather, Desire Lazereth Menard b. 1890 in Hamilton, Washington Co., R.I. and his sister Gabriel b. 1897 Jackson, Providence, R.I.. In 1901 thier brother Noel Felix Menard was b in Abington, Plymouth, MA. The whole family moved to Abington, MA sometime between 1897 and 1901. I have looked in my data base for the names that you mentioned, but found nothing. Not surprising, as they are all probably still among the living. When you find out who your father was, get in touch with me or post it to this forum and I might be able to give you some info. As you say, your last name was given to you by your mothers fathers side, It would help to know who your mothers father was, maybe a connection can be found through His info. If there is any way I can help, I will be glad to.
Terri Hamblin
Countrygirl214@comcast.net

Your Alex Menard/Maynard and Josephine are also my Alexis and Josephine - coming down/thru the Quebec side of Menards to USA. Josephine's maiden surname seems to be continually messed up in records - Vignit, Binette, Benette, etc. While the family is still incomplete, there is enuf cross-ref of records to id them, especially since Alexis or Alex and two other sibs are mentioned in his brother's Auguste Joseph James David Menard's 1921 obit as living in West Springfield (he/his family in 1880, 1900 Hampden Co. census). Alexis or Alexander brothers are also in Springfield/Agawam/West Springfield area too. Alex and Josephine's marriage occurred in West Springfield, but appear to bop back and forth twix Quebec and USA. Three of his children have baptisms in Ange-Gardien, Rouville, Quebec. Line goes back to Pierre Menard b abt 1654 L'Esvievres, Angers, France. Contact me for more info if wanted.

Agnes:
Thanks for the prompt response. The name Little Massca is written on Jacob's tombstone as his place of birth. In reference to the marriage records, he was married in a Lutheran Church in Berks Co., PA and the church records do not list his parents, but thanks for the advice. Others researching Jacob have concluded his mother may have been Indian, which may partially account for the lack of records.

Send your email address to me at candrmiller@verizon.net and I'll send you a pdf of Jacob's descendants.

Ray Miller

Agnes:
I noted from your posting that you are collecting all the information you can on the Menards. I am descended from Jacob B. Menard born in Little Massca, Canada in 1808. He settled in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. Several of Jacob's descendants have been searching unsuccessfully for his family in Quebec. We have been unable to locate Little Massca or anything on his parents. Some information says it was a fur trading village near the Fox River. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. If you want information on our Menard family branch I'd be glan to send it to you.

Ray

Hi Ray,

Massca, is written Maska and it come from “La Seigneurie de Maska” the first name of “La Seigneurie de St-Hyacinthe” that became the town of St-Hyacinthe. Little Massca should be in French “Petit Masca”. I don’t know more for now. I thing it is probably St-Hyacinthe.
I will like to have the information on your branch; it is very nice of you to offer. I will try to find your Jacob, but it will be very hard to find proof it’s the good one. Did someone ever found the marriage record of Jacob? Most of the time, the Catholic Church record the parent’s names.

Have a Merry Christmas,

Agnes
I have been looking up my genealogy to see how far back I can go. My last name was given to me by my mothers fathers side, not my fathers. Right now I dont know his first name (I'll ask my mom) but I know he had 4 children before he died in the mid 60's (oldest to youngest)

1st Donna Menard (three children: Christian Menard, Renee Menard, Jordan Shulze)
2nd Michelle Menard (one child: desire allier)
3rd Diana Menard (4 boys: Branden conole, adam segee, kyle segee, travis segee)
4th Guy Menard (Married with no children)

I was born in Providence, RI in 1982 and from my understanding the Menards have been there for quite some time know.
