John William Mentor

I am trying to find the parents or any other relatives of John William Mentor b.Sep 7, 1840 NY. He was married on Feb 12, 1865 to Alice Lee b.July 24, 1844 MI. John is buried at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Michigan. They had two daughters Mary and Blanche Mentor who both died young. I am not sure yet if Alice, Mary and Blanche are also at Franklin Cemetery. John recieved a Cival War Medal of Honor, he was in Michigan at the time of his enlistment. In 1870, and 1880 he is on Census for Oakland County, Michigan. Then 1900-1920 Ovid, Clinton, Michigan. I can not find him on 1850 or 1860 Census. All of the census' have him as being born in NY.

Thought I would post this to the Mentor Board as I recently found the WWI Draft Registration Card for my husband's grandmother's brother which gives his middle name as "Mentor" - Andrew Mentor STREHL who was born in Shiawassee Co., Mich. Have no idea where his middle name came from. If a family name I have not come across it in my research. Mother's maiden name VOGELSBERG.

Julia Mentor arrived usa on oct 5, 1912. she was single. she travelled on the ship named celtic and departed from Queenstown. she was 16 years old. she was single. Are you a direct descendant of the Mentor family? whre are you from?
