I'm trying to locate my original family. I was born on 02/02/68 to Harry O. Mericle and Lucille Williams Mericle in Newton, NJ. My biological mother died 1/1/69. I was then cared for by my aunt and uncle who adopted and raised me because Harry was an alcoholic (so I've been told). My adoptive parents are now deceased and I have always wondered who the rest of my family are. I briefly met Harry approximately 10 years ago in North Carolina. I was always told that our family line started in Germany and then moved Wales where the name changed from Merkle to Mericle.

Sorry, I meant the Country in which they came. My mother always thought 'our' Mericles (Miracle's were from France,
but recently I have seen a web origin coming from Wales in the 1500-1600's.

Read your post - I am just beginning to look into my family history. My father Roy Julian Mericle and his six older siblings and parents, Julian and Marie Mericle came from Willoby Ohio. This was during the depression and they settled in Miami, FL.

I have Fielding Gillick 1st marrying Nancy Truelove 1839 in Martin Co IN with a family of 9, he then married a Catherine Mericle, ( Miracle) b. 1819 NY, abt 1865 and had 3 girls and one boy Everett. Catherine had first married John Elliott b.1846 in Admas Co IN and they had 2 boys.

I am searching for more information on these lines. Would you have an exact date of death and place of burial for Catherine, and the ascendcants of Fielding?

I found some MERICLE and PUTNAM COUNTY OH photos posted on line by (I think) Beth E Fuller. A Braxen MERICLE was named in one of the photos.

I don't descend from MERICLEs, but I have (very very scant) family notes that mention a Braxen MERICLE marrying into my JONES line and my grandmother's first cousin was a HEIDLEBAUGH who descended from Noah and Rosanna MERICLE.

I believe Catharine Mericle was married to Fielding Gillick (he also married Nancy Truelove). Fuekdubg abd Catharine had Alice R, 1862 and Annie 1866.

Thanks for the reply.
Some years ago a friend got a beautiful curio from her mother when she died. Mom lived in New Jersey and had acquired the curio from a woman she knew. Well, on the back of one of the shelves, there was Ralph's name signed in crayon and that started her search trying to find the origin of the curio and it's age. I did get a few replies but nothing that would have led her to finding out anything about the curio. I guess with the many factories in the tri-state area many years ago it may be a losing game unless she really gave it her all. I know that many times craftsmen signed the things they made.
Seeing I no longer talk to her, I thank you again for your reply but will not be passing on the info to her.

I have just started tracing my husband's family. I have a Ralph Anthony Mericle married to Susan ?. Their daughter, Catherine, was born in NY approx 1829. I have Catherine married twice. And I have all the descendents she had with John Elliott. They lived in Loogootee, Indiana. I would love to share ANY information. I don't know much about Catherine and her ancestors, but have her and John's descendents and a picture of one of their children. This is exciting!

The first Merckle's left as part of the Palatinate. Who were persecuted in Germany in the 1600-1700, and fled. Our lines (As I can tell) came out of Baden, Germany and left through Rotterdam, Hooland for points West.

My great grandfather married a Francis according to South Creek, Bradfore co, PA, 1860 census. Page 103. They had a son Charles 5/12. We lost track of William and Francis there. William's father is Lewis Mericle and his mother is Hannah Sickler. In 1850 census, Thompkins Co, NY Lewis was 49,, Hannah was 45. 500DE, PG 110.

Charles appears in the 1865 census living with grand parents Lewis and Hannah Mericle...Charles appears in Cayuta census as living with Grandmother Hannah. 1875 Census

Have a quandry, am reseaching my Mericle side of the family,
Ralph Anthony was my gggg grandfather. Suposed to be married to a Susan... (Ron Ross). I know for sure that his
son Edward Dwight married to Luzetta Broshar was born in
New York. According to several databases on Roots and
Ancestery Ralph and Susan only had 6 children. Went to
Dearborn county IN this summer and found Ralph Anthony's
will probated 1850, He died in December 1849 sometime.
Appointed his wife (not named) and William as his executors.
Lists several other children in probate records: James, Susan
Harriet, Sarah Melissa, George and Atho (couldn't make out
the name of the last child). James McGinnis is named as their
guardian (married to Elizabeth Ann). Does any one out there
know anything about these other children?

I'm researching Gillick/Gillock marriage to Mericle/Miracle.

Fielding Gillick (1812-1881)married Catherine Miracle (B. NY) abt 1865 IN they had Alace (Alice),Anna, Florence, Everett. I believe she died shortly after Everett was born.
I show she was married to John Elliott 1 OCT 1846 in Decatur Adama, IN and had two sons David 57, Daniel 59.Fielding was 1st married tot Nancy Truelove 1839 In Shoals, Martin Co IN

I have Fielding Gillick born 1812 KY, died 20 Jan 1881 Shoals, Martin Co., IN. marrying a Catherine Mericle. of NY. Another note I have is that Catherine was first married to John Elliott in Martin or Daviess Co., IN. I show children of Fielding and Catherine to be Florence, Alace, Anna, and Everett.

Fielding married Nancy Truelove 1939 in Shoals, Martin Co., IN and they had 9 children. Their youngest Thomas F. Gillick married Mary Lydia Street 1882 Rutherford Twp., Martin /co., IN and their firstborn was my Grandmother Rosa Gillick Weibel.

Might we compare notes?
