It is with deep regret that the passing of John Richard Merit is noted. Staff Sergeant Merit served in the United States Air Force from 29 October 1949 to 27 October 1953. He was born 03 December 1931, place unknown. He passed away in Hattiesburg,MS on 17 February 2009 and was laid to rest in the Biloxi National Cemetery on 18 March 2009. This hero was not forgotten.

Berneice Lane

ESSEX, Mo. -- Berneice Lane, 79, of Essex died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo.
She was born April 23, 1922, at Grayridge, Mo., daughter of George and Lizzie Merritt McConnaughhay. She and Harold Otis Lane were married Dec. 31, 1938, at Bloomfield, Mo. He died April 2, 1996.
Lane had worked at General Motors A.C. Spark Plug Division in Flint, Mich. She was a member of Trotter Church.
Survivors include five sons, George and Donald Lane of Eugene, Ore., Jimmy, Robert and Timothy Lane, all of Flint; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery near Essex.

My father is John Dow Merritt, l894-l99l. Born in Davis City, Iowa. Buried in Searcy, Arkansas. His father John Sheckells Merritt is buried in the Cove, Arkansas area. He was born in Indiana, lived in Iowa, Oklahoma and finally Arkansas. Do these fit in with your Merritts?

I'm sorry but I do not have any of these Merritt's in any of my data bases. My Merritts were from Georgia and went thru Ark. in the Fort Smith Area but moved on to Texas.
