Meriwether Joins Rebels in Mexico
Washington, Jan. 22 -- (Special)
Minor Meriwether, of Shreveport, La., formerly a cadet at the United States Naval Academy, from which he was dismissed several years ago, announced here that he is going to Mexico to join the revolutionists.
Meriwether was dismissed from the academy because of a fight with Cadet Branch, who died the next day from the effects of the encounter. Recently Meriwether applied for permission to take an examination for second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, but his application was denied because, it was reported, of his dismissal from the academy.

Mexicans May Execute An Accused American
El Paso, Texas, March 25
Arrivals from Torreon Today reported that Minor Merriweather, an American and former midshipman at the Annapolis naval academy, who is held in the Saltillo, Cochulla Penitentiary on charges of having in his possession large sums of counterfeit Villa money, was in grave danger of being executed by the Mexican authorities. Certain Mexican officials are quoted as having declared that if Merriweather is found guilty of the charges before the Mexican courts, the death penalty will be imposed. The American State Department has again wired to special Agent George C. Carothers, who is at Monterey to do what he can to assist the American.
